My administrator account has been demoted to a guest account

Hello

MS Vista Ultimate 32-bit SP2
All the latest updates and hotfixes applied
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz
4 GB OF RAM

I went to uninstall a program, a couple of days, and when they the UAC confirmation to enter a password, I could just click Cancel (OK is grayed and he had nowhere to type a password). I reset the computer, the same question. I checked my user account under control panel > user accounts and noticed that under my username, he said I was using a guest account (!). Problem is that this has always been an administrator account.

I went to control panel > administrative tools > computer management > local users and groups > users to check what was going on with the account. On the Member tab, it says that the only group I'm in is the debugger users. If I check that guests belonging to a group, only the default account of comments is a member.

I reset the computer, press F8, and returned in the mode of repair to the system restore a few days ago. This solves nothing, so I restored in a week - the time I can be absolutely sure that I have confirmed successfully an action with the UAC as a system administrator. Still no resolution.

Accounts administrator and guest of default have been disabled when I bought the computer and never allowed them. As I was alone in the debugger and not to the Administrators group users group, I created only ever this one account - so even in repair mode, I can't log in as an administrator to change the setting of user for this account group.

Anyway to get this account to a point where user accounts see Computer Management snap-in see, it is to say, that I am NOT a member of the guest, but rather a member of the debugger user group (which I'm lead to believe is a notch below a hand full admin)?

Thanks for your help.

Hi shehaal,.

Thank you for using the Microsoft answers Forum.

The built-in Administrator account is disabled by default in Vista.

However, if no other administrative accounts exist on the system it can be activated.

If this is the case, you will see an icon for the administrator on the homescreen mode without failure.

Sign in and then go to control panel > user accounts and change the account type.

You can also try to create a new user account with privileges that the user account is damaged and check if the problem persists.

Follow the link that talks about how to create a new account below:

Create a new user account:

1. click on the Start button and then click Control Panel.

2. click on classic view in the left panel.

3. double click on user accounts.

4. click on manage another account to use.

5. click on create a new account, and then type the name.

6. choose the type of account as an administrator of the computer.

7. click on create account.

8. log off and log on with the new account.

If the problem occurs, don't use this profile instead of the problem. Follow the steps below to transfer personal data.

User profile of transfer:

1. log on as the new user account (make sure that the user account has administrator privileges).

2. click on the start menu, and then click computer.

3. click the button hold in the upper left corner and choose folder and Search Options.

4. on the view tab, check "Show the hidden files and folders" and click OK to save the settings.

5. navigate to the folder C:\Users\(old user name).

Note: The "old username" is the username of your old account. For example, if your old account user name is 'Larry', the folder must be C:\Users\Larry.

((5 copy all the files and folders in the C:\Users\(old folder user name) in the folder C:\Users\(new user name).

Note: To copy all of the files, we can press Ctrl + A, then Ctrl + C in the folder C:\Users\(old user name). Then, navigate to the C:\Users\(new folder user name), click Ctrl + V. Replace with new files.

You can also try scan SFC:

The System File Checker tool analyzes the system files and replaces incorrect versions of system files by using the correct versions.

To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:

1. Click Start and type cmd in the box start the search.

2. right click on cmd in the list programs and then click Run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue

3. at the command prompt, the following line, and then press ENTER:

sfc/scannow

4. hit enter.

The SFC scan should replace the corrupt files.

I hope this helps you, good luck.

Kind regards
Manasa P-Microsoft Support.

    Hello world

I really hope you can help me because I'm running out of option...

First of all, sorry for all the mistakes possible, I'll do, English is not my first language.

My Hp envy 17-j111sl gave me hard times, crashing while playing the game online using firefox playerwith unity3d.

Although I have day all, I had another BSOD while playing.

In addition, the laptop is drammatically slow at startup... I mean it took 16-20 minutes to boot successfully.

For this reason, I tried to restore using HP Recovery Manager to restore the laptop computer and the operating system.

The process did not went well. I was a report that said "detect an error in the PININST_BBV" and "critical error condition has been detected to BBV1."

At this point, I had to restart the laptopt, but I can not connect because "my account has been disabled. Please contact administrator. There is no one else on the laptop, just me, the administrator. I set a password when I used the laptop for the first time, but now he don't ask me the password. I just can not simply open a session, with no other options.

Unfortunately, I don't have the recovery disc, so I checked on the website if they were available, but nothing...

If I press "ESC" at the beginning, then click on "recovery" it always does the same thing... I click on "Administrator" and the message "your account has been disapled".

The laptop was supplied with W8.1

  • Your account has been disabled. Please consult your system administrator

Hello. I had problems with my computer because it says "your account has been disabled. Please consult your system administrator. "I can't possibly connect because it says that when I try to connect to the administrator account. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

    Try this:
    1. put your BIOS so that it uses the DVD drive as its primary boot device.
2 start the computer with your Windows 7 repair CD.
    3. press a button if you are prompted to start from the DVD.
    4. Select 'PC Repair' in the menu.
    5. Select repair when prompted.
    6. When you are prompted, select System Restore.
    7. set Windows to a point before this problem occurred.
    8. Once completed, remove the CD before restarting the system.
In step 2, you can also use the Windows 7 installation DVD. The subsequent steps are similar to those above.

When you're done, plan ahead a little and create, then test a second admin account. It will take less than a minute, but you will save to never meet again in an awkward situation.
