  I didn't know that Powershell did not have for Vista.  Make sure that you didn't install the software for XP and if so, delete it immediately.

  I tried uninstalling the drive and then to restart the laptop but it is has not been successful. I recently downloaded and installed the Service Pack 1 for Vista and I have read that there have been problems with device drivers and wonder if there is such a body?

  Hi Paul,.

  You don't say what model of laptop you have, but generally speaking if you are using Windows XP then you will use the standard Microsoft drivers for your scanner.

  However, you can Toshiba drivers and utilities download from Toshiba web site by clicking on the Support section and downloads and selection of files to download. You will need to fill in the details of your laptop so that the list of appropriate driver (unless you have provided these details when you register).

  He used to work. It comes from when the computer was around the age of 4 months. should have put in, but could not take the days off to bring it back to BEST BUY - 2 years ago.

  Then... the CD/DVD drive is not recognized by Windows or other programs. If I insert a CD as Photo Suite III or any what CD/DVD, the green light comes on but no rotation and not even a warning to error.

  Now what? How can I find out / know the specs of what to look for a replacement/new one... I lost the book in my move to Florida. I have tried all sorts of key word in GOOGLE and I am half blind and tired to be re-directed to sites that have nothing to do with my question.

  Download XP_CD-DVD - Fix.zip and save this file on your hard drive. Navigate to where you saved it, and double-click the file to extract the content. Find the EXE file that you extracted and double click it.  A confirmation dialog box appears when the script is done.  You may need to reboot for the change to take effect. Works on XP and Vista. Good luck!

• On laptop CD/DVD drive is not recognized/is missing. Having read the other topics, problem still not solved.

  I'm on a computer laptop gateway and my cd player does not work all of a sudden. I can eject and put CD in there and it will hum for awhile, but nothing will happen.   normally internal unless you have it in an external enclosure. If internal why it did you

  Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
  do it right.

  Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
  the entries in registry that the troubleshooter does not solve and those who "might" be the cause.

  Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates and the
  correct registry entries for your car.

  Please check in the Device Manager to see if there's anything showing against your CD-ROM drive. If your CD-ROM is always displayed, you should be able to run the process of troubleshooting against it to check for possible errors.

  If your CD-ROM is more listed and then launch the 'Scan for hardware changes' option to see if it detects your CD-ROM.

  I tried to remove some old software using the Control Panel, uninstall.  Uninstaller has partially and I got the "Error 1327.Invalid Drive: G:\. "When I reconnected it my drive hard Seagate he came as drive E:\ and my NERO account came as NERO (F).  The E:\ and F:\ use my optical drive names.

  Well, usually if the CD/DVD drive doesn t appear in the BIOS or BIOS cannot recognize the ODD then chances are that the CD/DVD drive is malfunctioning.

  But the best way to check this is a new installation of the OS. You should try to boot from a bootable XP CD.
  If the laptop would be able to boot from the CD, then the material is ok.
