My computer does not open in normal mode and I get an error message that short DST has failed, which is the error code 2000-0142

It opens fine in safe mode, I took it back to 10/01/2011 as suggested, and the problem persists.

On a Dell computer, it indicates a problem with the hard drive.

The computer was working normally. I connected a HDMI cable to use a larger external monitor (hp w2207h). I did several times without problem. I plugged in the cable, then turned on the external monitor. The screen of the laptop goes immediately black that I turned on the external monitor (not like a normal screen transfer). The external screen has no image. The f4 button did nothing. I turned off the external monitor. All disconnected. I couldn't get a picture on the laptop. Finally, I pushed the power button until the computer turns off. I restarted the computer with no attachments. Power goes to the screen on a black screen. The 'hp invent' logo appears then. Then Microsoft name with the long box with green lines running from left to right. So far, so good, everything seems normal. Then, after a minute or two lines green running, the computer stops and the screen goes black, just at the time must appear the opening of session and password screen. The hard drive light also stops flickering, and all what happens is the fan works and there is a black screen. The computer froze. I let the computer frozen for an hour. Nothing happened. I am able to restart computer in SafeMode (f8), but the screen is filled with columns of red dashes. The computer will not update in safe mode. In addition, a new message is displayed. While running in safe mode, instead of my normal screensaver appearing, a message appears that says "the screen saver can't run because it requires a more recent or compatible with Direct3D video card." I don't know even what is Direct3D. I am grateful for the suggestions or pointers to internal diagnostic programs or free online diagnostic tools links. I also never set up system restore.

    Hi HK-Sheko,

Looks like your video drivers must be updated for Vista.  You can go to the HP Web site:

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?LC=en&DLC=en&cc=us&OS=228&product=1842189

Or go to the Web site of the manufacturer of your video card for the latest Vista drivers.

    I hope this helps!

  • Does not open in normal mode

Firefox will crash whenever I try to open it. Then, it opens in safe mode. I have reset and restarted the computer and it still crashes. I sent more than 127 reports of incidents in December only. I tried to reinstall, but it stops and says that he cannot continue to install. None of my programs that use that the internet will open, I get a "stopped working" or Launcher has stopped working message. (PCMatic, Quicken, Malewarebytes, Superfast PC) and many other programs that I downloaded and uninstalled after that they will not load. Nothing seems to fix the problem

Short do a clean install of windows and start over I don't know what to try next.

I stopped the hardware acceleration and firefox open in normal mode. My programs still have the problem of launch. (Quicken and PCMatic) when I open them when they try to open I get a launcher has stopped working. I get the same problem with IE as well.

  • "Windows Vista Security Center" close browser windows, precise I have a virus, and now no programs will be opened. Windows does not start in safe mode, and all the system restore points have already disappeared.

    Hello

I have a Dell laptop under Windows Vista Premium. I got it for about three years, and he is upset enough ok tonight. In the middle of browsing the internet, check my email, etc., all but one of my browser windows close at random, and a message appears "windows vista Security Center" whenever I try to open a new window, blocking of the site and to say that the site is dangerous and my system has been infiltrated by a Trojan horse. Then he starts the scan and says that I must buy the full to get everything to work again. I closed everything, since I already have McAfee antivirus and internet security, but it does not, and neither did any other progams. I tried restarting in safe mode to restore a backup point, but Windows does not open in safe mode, rather stick for half an hour in the middle of loading. When I managed to start windows in normal mode, I found that all my past restore points had been erased.

This happened to someone else, and it is fixable without wiping everything?

    Thanks in advance,
    Emma

    Hi Emma,

This could be due to a virus on your computer.  Try to make a virus on your computer scan to check if your computer is infected.

  • I don't have a navigation bar and firefox does not open in safe mode to return to the default configuration. Does not work reinstall. Any help please.

I have no navigation bar since I closed it to have more space on the screen. It will not re - open. Firefox does not open in safe mode, but immediately opens in normal mode with the new configuration incorrect, so I can't reset to default configuration. I deleted Firefox and re-installed and it always opens with the same faulty configuration. Why doesn't Firefox give me the safe mode dialog box, why can I not re - open the navigation bar, and how I can do those two things, please? Firefox is currently unusable for me without a navigation bar with no access to the default settings in safe mode. I can't search the extensions that I use since I have no navigation bar to go to tools, modules, Extensions.

    This has happened

    Each time Firefox opened

I closed the navigation bar to make more space on the screen and I could not re - open.

    Hello

Since it works fine in safe mode, I suggest you to try to perform the audit and the boot if it helps:

NOTE: When you are finished troubleshooting, make sure that you reset the computer in start mode normal such as suggested in step 7 of the above article.

    It will be useful.

  • After you have installed SP3 (on XP with SP2), the PC does not restart in normal mode, only in safe mode

After you install SP3, PC does not restart in normal mode, only in safe mode, without giving a clear indication of what is the problem or how to fix it - other than say to check settings in the Panel (not very useful).

PC is a Compaq Presario desktop with AMD processor, model #: SR1720AN product #: EL540AA-ABG

I reinstalled the operating system recovery disks, which reformats HD and installed XP with SP2.

I then installed the SP3 from a flashdrive (361 MB files). Everything went without hiccups, but final restarts, he won't get to normal mode, safe mode only.

    I did it twice.

    Any ideas? Thank you.

Here are the specifications of your desktop Compaq Presario SR1720AN. According to the specification, this model comes with a processor AMD and Windows XP Home Edition SP2 installed at the factory. According to your description, it seems that the HP recovery discs may have been poorly photographed for an AMD-based computer. Please see this Microsoft article and this HP document about your problem.

To solve your problem, please reinstall Windows XP SP2 by booting from your HP recovery disks. After Windows XP SP2 is complete restored and that your computer is operational, download the "Windows XP SP3 with AMD CPU upgrade utility." Run this utility, and then restart your computer. Then download the "Windows XP Service Pack 3 Package of Network Installation" for it professionals. You can also try to use the SP3 Installer on your USB. Install the update to Windows XP SP3 and then restart when you are prompted to.

    This solve your problem?

  • Computer does not start in safe mode/get blue screen.

I have a desktop dell Vistro 220 with vista on it. I stopped him Sunday morning and it took forever to stop, he remained on a blue screen saying closing down, so I turned it off using the power button on the tower. Now, when I try to start it I get the blue screen with a bunch of errors on it. I ran a few tests by going to the start menu and I get these error codes. I think he has a bad virus, but it won't let me start without failure, a repair or one of the other options in the start menu. I tried the normal startup too, and I get the blue screen. Is there a way to fix this or get my stuff out of the hard drive? I have pictures of my children on my hard drive that I've not saved, and I have important documents I was working on my work on here also. I did a few diagnostic tests of obtained through most of them with a pass, but when I got to one he stopped and I got these error codes: 0F00:065 D and 0F00:0232 MSG: DISK_0 - self-test read error and it goes no further. Hello

It would be preferable to do the above to remove malware and who could possibly allow the
computer to start so it can be repaired.

/ Settings (BIOS/CMOS) often F2 as you start then look at screen - set the boot order to
CD/DVD first and start with these to run audits of malware and the removals. Be sure to set the
Start the command return when finished.

    Hello

You tell us what type of license you have.

If the former was preinstalled, NO, you cannot transfer it.

    Read this information:

If the laptop came with the preinstalled Windows operating system (Dell, HP, Acer, etc.), this product key supplied with the laptop is preinstalled OEM license and is not transferable.

OEM license/product key (systems of operating pre-installed on Dell, HP, etc.) is related to the first machine it is installed on and dies when dies of this machine.

The above applies also to OEM system builders licenses.

License of operating system in detail, that you buy and install yourself, are allowed to be transferred to another machine.

And retail licenses also can be installed on a machine at one time.
