Hi Parmoe,

Method 1:

First, try to start the computer in safe mode and check if the problem persists; If you do not get the same problem in safe mode, then follow the steps to boot. Follow the steps in the article mentioned below.

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

If the error does not appear in safe mode then this could happen if one of the substantive programmes is in conflict with the proper functioning of your computer. To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

The steps to perform a clean boot are given below:

1 log on to the computer using an account with administrator rights

2. click on start, type msconfig.exe in the start search box and press ENTER to start the System Configuration utility.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue

3. on the general tab, click Selective startup, and then clear the check box load startup items. (The check box use the file Boot is not available.)

4. on the Services tab, click to select the skin all the Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all

Note: Following this step lets services Microsoft continue to run. These services include networking, Plug-and-Play, record of events, error reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you can permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use with existing restore points system restore utility

Once you start office check if the problem persists, follow the steps in the article and find out which program is causing the problem.

For more information about the clean boot, follow the below given link:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

1. click on start, type msconfig.exe in the start search box and press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.

2. on the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

3. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart

Hope this information is useful.

    Hi gramward1,

We recommend all first download and install the drivers for the chipset on the computer and check the difference.
To download the driver, visit the website of the manufacturer of the system.

Step 1: You can also try to search for the hardware changes and check if the device is detected on the computer. To do this, try the following steps:
    a. connect any USB device to the computer.
    b. Click Start, click Run, type devmgmt.msc, and then click ok.
    c. in the list of items, click one of the items, click the Action menu and click scan for hardware changes.
    d. check if the device is detected.

Step 2: Try to remove and reinstall all USB controllers
    a. Click Start, click Run, type devmgmt.msc in the Open box and then click OK.
    b. in the list of components, expand Bus USB controllers.
    c. right-click on each device under the Bus USB controllers node and then click on uninstall to remove them one at a time.
    d. restart the computer once you have removed all the USB controllers.
Note: USB controllers automatically install after you restart the computer.
    e. plug the removable USB storage device and perform a test to ensure that the problem is solved.

  • computer will not start with the disc

I use vista and my computer does not start because of a corrupted file.

I put my vista disk in such suggested, but the screen does not move any command of keys to press and just goes round in a loop. So I can't the computer to start and fix.

I changed the bios to boot from the cd as first choice but still no results.

    can anyone help?

Could it be that the disk driver does not work like the disk isn't loading? Or the disc will not load because the press any key order is not coming?

I am old enough and not very technically experienced but this computer has served me well and I have a lot of information that I need to go down there if I have to buy another.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have correctly setting the boot order in the BIOS to CD/DVD first, and the computer does not start, your problem has nothing to do with the driver for the CD/DVD drive. Also running in safe mode or SFC can maybe help you.

The reason that pilots, safe mode and FCS can help you is the same for all three: boot (if from the hard drive or a CD or DVD) takes place before loading Windows. If it boots from a CD or a bootable DVD, the problem has nothing to do with Windows. It's a hardware problem. I don't know what the problem is, but it is possible that the CD/DVD drive is dead.

What is wrong can but fixable, but whether it is cost-effective to do so is another matter. It depends on what the problem is. If the CD/DVD player, they are inexpensive, so replacement should not be expensive. Fortunately, it's not like there is a problem with the hard drive, so even if you buy a new computer, you must be able to remove the hard drive from the old computer, put it in an external enclosure and to transfer the data to the new computer.

Let me add another point: you say "I have a lot of information that I need to get off it if I have to buy another." This suggests that you don't regularly back up your data on an external support. If this is the case, you've played with fire. It is always possible that a hard disk crash, the user error, close to love at first sight, virus attack, even stolen computer, can result in the loss of everything on your drive. As it has often been said, it is not a question of whether you will have a problem, but when.

  • Computer will not use the drive when you restart.

I have a Pavilion dv 9000 and had problems more and more lately (win explorer fails, application launcher fail, blue screens, crashes etc.).

I decided to use the recovery disk that was created at first boot. According to all the manuals that I found (on - and offline), it is just to put the recovery disk in the DVD-ROM and restart.

The problem is that nothing happens. The computer does not use the disk when it reboots.

Anyone experienced the same problem with the recovery disk?

I'm not having any other problems with the ROM, works perfektly once Windows is running.

    Thank you

You may need to change the BIOS to do first the CD drive in the boot sequence to boot from the CD.  To do this, hold the screen that tells you the key F to push to enter the menu start or start of installation.  Push it quickly. Make the changes, save your work and exit.  Put the CD in the drive and reboot.  When you are prompted, press any key to boot from the CD.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Computer does not start after being rebuilt

    It is a dv6000 Pavilion 2007 model.

The computer crashed. The screen went crazy with patterns and different colors. I heard noises like the hard drive trying to start. Then nothing. I wanted to just throw it away, but my wife gave me an idea to rebuild for her mother.

    So here goes.

I bought a refurbished seller system boad and put it in. I put in a tested AMD 64 X 2 CPU. A new power, new card wireless, new power button ribbon, new drive, battery and charger.

The only thing that I changed to have'nt is still display

    Now, it's where I have a problem.

When I press the Start button / all lights light up for a second then they get out. Computer will not start.

    Sounds don't either.

I tried the Hard reset with no luck.

I want to thank you in advance for any help you can provide. I am at my last few hairs and want to save.

Looks like that the BIOS boot sequence is not set to boot from the CD drive first.

Enter the BIOS at startup & friendly bunch or a simpler option is to keep hitting the f12 key immediately after power on until you get a menu of options screen to start from, select the cd Rom drive, & you should be on your way to get the installed operating system.

If the f12 key does not seem to work to bring up a boot option menu-google your model or download the Service Manual of HP hp support & drivers section.

Can also be useful cleaning the lens in the cd player as do collected a lot of crud over time & can be cause of slow or no disc reading errors during install.
