  You can try to open the CD/DVD drive using something small and thin. Near the eject button, you should find a small hole.
  You have to slide - in the little thing and should manually open the CD/DVD drive.

  Then try to insert a CD or DVD disc and close the CD/DVD drive.
  Check if the drive can read data from the disc.

  I would recommend also check if the CD/DVD drive would eject the disc by pressing eject button check different opportunities.

• XPS8100 DVD player does not open

  I've been writing a series of DVD, eject them because they were written, and then insert a new.  At some point in the middle of one of the written word, the application reported an error to write and you leave.  I pushed the eject button, but nothing happened.  I have not rebooted - no improvement.  I opened the application of DVD writer and went to the tool box and selected Eject - no action.

  I opened the door in front of the reader to see the front of the disc tray that is visible.  But it doesn't seem to be any type of manual slot to insert the proverbial trombone or any other visible way to force the player to open the tray.

  Fortunately, I have two drives and the other disk continues to function properly.

  However, if there is a way to open the drive, I'm still hopeful that I can get it back.

  Of course, the control electronics may simply have failed, even if I'm unable to identify a single source of failure that might as well stop disc rotation as well as the door opened (different engines, no doubt).

  Does anyone have experience with this?  I probably won't have to worry about replacing the drive - I'll just use the other.  The computer has 4 years also and well past the warranty.

  I'm not quite sure what you mean by 2 small bars of silver, but the reader of my laptop s contains two metals (runners, railway).
  This is normal and these pieces are important to ensure that the drive can eject properly and could remain in a good position.
  Still, you will hear a short click Open and close the drive.

  So I guess it's ok.

  There are two possible reasons why you are not able to copy anything to the CD or DVD.

  First, it may be possible that the drives used are not entirely compatible.
  In such cases, it s always advisable to test different CD and DVD from different manufacturers.

  Secondly, the issue could be related to a defective laser lens; in many cases, this can happen because of a physical constraint. If the laser lens can not calibrate in a good position, then the player will not be able to handle the inserted discs.
  This could be the worst case, because this issue is not repairable. Just a STRANGE replacement could help.

  I have canon handycam dvd and mini dvd works on it. A month back I recorded the movie and photos on mini dvd with handycam and ran mini dvd on my tecra M5 player, it worked very well.

  Now after 1 month, I have 5 mini DVD with movies and photos that I took for 1 month of vacation country of diffierent, I tried my best but tecra dvd player does not read these mini dvd, label appears instead dvd player cd player when I put the mini dvd in there.

  All the other standard size DVD, CD works good about it. Its complex and as well as irritating.

  After the installation of Vista my dvd player does not recognize discs!
  No update XP! It was a clean install of Vista.

  I found several links on the upper filter and lower registry entries this entry does not exist in my registry under the CDROM class.

  I tried the XP disk it works fine and recognizes all.
