I suggest you to try the steps below and check if it helps.

Method 1: You can run the fix it from the link below and check if this can help:

Diagnose and automatically fix problems of Windows Firewall service: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_firewall_diagnostic/en-us?entrypoint=lightbox

Method 2: Also access the link: you cannot enable or disable the Windows Firewall on a Windows XP Service Pack 2 computer setting: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914230

(Valid for Service pack 3)

Note: A Firewall is software or hardware that checks information coming from the Internet or a network. Firewall blocks some information or allows information to pass to your computer. If the information is blocked or passed through depends on your firewall settings. A firewall can prevent malicious software (such as worms) to access your computer through a network or the Internet. A firewall can also help stop your computer from malware sent to other computers.

You can also read this article.

Some models of administration of the Security Guide Windows XP may prevent you from starting the Windows Firewall service in Windows XP Service Pack 2

If the problem persists then I suggest you to contact Microsoft Security Essentials forum. http://www.Microsoft.com/en-us/security_essentials/support.aspx

  • RV082 disable firewall remote management AND

    Hi all

    I have a RV082.

I need to disable the firewall because the firewall is done better elsewhere.

However disable firewall management remotely over ip wan is on emphatically.

I don't need remote management, keep it activated is a security risk for my setup.

I don't understand the reason for the choice to enable remote management with force if the firewall is disabled.

Is there a way to disable the firewall and remote management?

Or at least a workaround solution?

I'm on firmware 2.0.0.19 - tm on a probably v2 hardware. (Impossible to find this info in web configuration).

It's not the newest even for hw v2 but I can't afford to break it trying to update the firmware.

In addition no release notes for versions of firmware refers to a correction of the behaviour of management of firewall / remote.

Is this behavior also in new versions of firmware?

    Gabriele,

V03 material has the same behavior. Possible workaround:

    turn on the firewall;

Disable: SPI, back, Block Wan management rem.

and remove any custom access rules (restore default rules).

  • Windows Firewall 7. Disable and file sharing

I have a program that is unable to work so that the firewall of windows 7 is activated. I tried to restore the firewall by default and repeatable to allow access to the program. I tried the more advanced options, and they still do not work. I have resorted to installing third party software firewall and this is, I discovered, I can not disable the firewall of windows 7 AND disable the sharing of files and network sharing.

He is super bad design. I don't want a network share or sharing files on everything. What should I do in this situation?

When I turn off the firewall turns these return options. I can always turn them off, but ever time I turn disable then it resets these settings. Is there a way to permanently disable such things via gpedit.msc for example

    Thank you

I know that its virus associated, is the only thing that I have herd do, first the rootkit removal and virus, do a dirty reinstall... (which means keep your dirty previous installation files/programs) so far I have not found all the patches that work. • HostScan Firewall control fails with 8.0 McAfee HIPS Patch 6 (and later versions)

    Hello

We use a HostScan postural control must (among other things), looking for the active firewall.
The firewall is McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention 8.x
He works very well with McAfee 8.0 Patch 5
However - with McAfee 8.0 Patch 6 (and later versions) it fails.
'Windows Firewall graphical Support for HostScan 4.2.02075' see the Watch McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention 8.x is supported and it can check the active state.
I suspect it fails it's because McAfee has changed the implementation of HIPS in the patch 6.
Contrary to earlier he no longer uses the "McAfee Firewall Core Service".
While this service is always present the service is not started.
    Someone from Cisco can confirm
-Version of McAfee HIPS Patch 6 8.0 (or later) have been tested with this review?
-What is the assessment of endpoint * actually * looking for? (he seeks for the 'McAfee Firewall Core Service' service?)

  • Firewall Windows disable the Internet Explorer loads Up after slow start after the installation of Windows updates

Hello, (this the mystery of on and Off and back on Windows Firewall with slow loading of programs like Internet Explorer as this all is pass it on firewall, disable the firewall, the firewall, it occurs only during starts, after he fine / but very annoying on reboots whom he accuses of my computer down) / listed below is the cause of it , and when she first started, you have a solution?

I recently installed the last 16 (High Profile) updates to security, for most security updates and updates from net framework as well as the removal of malware for windows XP tool.

After installing these updates, now my Windows Firewall turns off during 'Boot Up' on all restarts. If I try to load Internet Explorer, it will also not load up to minutes serveral / while this happens... That's fine, then finally my firewall itself loads Up quickly turns to Internet Explorer and back on during this time around the same time.

After these updates these things are happening on my computer now, it's as if there is a process running, but nothing run any virus, Trojan or worm etc just these updates caused this problem. I don't know if it updates is corrupt or not, but have tried different things as system file checker /scan etc with no luck.

    (1) computer boots to the top and seems to Load Up Fine ' until the ' or 'Look at this' but isn't, something is running in the background or process "wing unstalled" is obviously "unhooked", etc..

    2) try to load Internet Explorer last minutes and is very slow to load up, even if I 'don't load Internet Explorer' must still a long while that as in the firewall turn off for awhile some several «minutes» (way too long), before "auto turn on automatically return.

    (3) turns firewall Windows itself on "finally" as Internet Explorer finally loads upwards as well the two Internet Explorer is able to load 'definitely' and the firewall is on "finally" as many minutes later as listed above, at the same time.

This could be the cause? Only, it has begun to 'After' I ran windows update and installed the 'most recently high security updates for windows XP' there were 16 listed mainly security updates and updates of net framework as well as the software removal tool windows malware.

That's all that is changed on my system, I tried many things, nothing seems to fix this problem with my computer. I know for a fact that these updates are the cause, but am not sure that you caused it? Or how do to solve this problem, any sugguestions would be appreciated.

Please answer questions following diagnosis by number in your very next answer (no need to quote this post):

    1. what application or antivirus security suite is installed and your current subscription?  What anti-spyware (other than Defender) applications?  What third-party firewall (if applicable)?

2 a Norton or McAfee application already installed on the computer?

    3. do you have a Norton or McAfee free trial come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it? (No matter if you have never used or activated).

    4. you are using IE6, IE7 or IE8?

    5. have you ALREADY had the opportunity to do a Repair Installation of Windows XP for some reason any?

Firewall Windows isn't the default firewall, that firewall Windows cannot be set as the default firewall service. This may be because another firewall service is installed or because the Windows Firewall is disabled.

When you view the control panel > windows firewall, the firewall is enabled (recommended)

Recently, I uninstalled McAfee Antivirus and installed Microsoft Security Essentials.

Please indicate how to troubleshoot, and windows firewall to be the Firewall default or recognized under the name away.

How to test the firewall to see if it is or it is not working properly?

    This problem has been resolved.

The MSE has not recognized that the windows firewall was conducted.

This problem has been resolved by running McAfee software removal followed by uninstallation tool and relocation of MSE.

After reinstallation, I rebooted and the updated definitions.  He reported no problems with the Windows Firewall or the absence of firewall or at risk.

I ran a full scan of MSE and we found no malware.

For others who may have the MSE/firewall problem run followed by appropriate software removal tool to uninstall and reinstallation of MSE.  It takes time, but it worked.

  • Windows Firewall is disabled

I had ZoneAlarm firewall installed on my computer for a while, the Windows Firewall is disabled. When I started my computer today, there was a red security alert icon in the lower right screen telling me Windows Firewall is disabled. As far as I know it is been extinguished since the ZoneAlarm has been installed. I rebooted the computer and the alert was still there. Windows Security Center indicates that the Windows Firewall, it does not show the ZoneAlarm. The ZoneAlarm is on and functioning normally, I confirmed in the Task Manager. I ran my anti-virus and spybot programs and nothing turned up. Why am I suddenly on the firewall alerts Windows is disabled? Should I be concerned?

    Hello

Here's what I use and recommend:

Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with everything I threw at them.
Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven very reliable and compatible.

Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except away from Standard, Web and network is working.

    Prevx - Home - free

    Windows Firewall

Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)

    Protected IE - mode

IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(Sometimes you have to temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom right of IE)

Avast - stop home - free - all shields you do no need except leave Standard, Web and network running.
(Double-click the blue icon - details look OK. - upper left Shields - those that you do not cancel).
    http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast

Prevx - Home - small, fast, exceptional CLOUD free protection, working with other security programs. It comes
a scan only, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something to come back here or use Google to see how to remove.
    http://www.prevx.com/   <-->

    PCmag - Prevx - Editor's choice
    http://www.PCMag.com/Article2/0, 2817,2346862,00.asp

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever suspect malware, and that would be unusual with
Avast and Prevx running except a low occasional (not much), updated cookie and then run it as
a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.

    I hope this helps.
