  I can understand your terminology, but have you tried signing off iCloud and then reconnect?

  I've not seen this icon explained in a any Apple document, but it seems to indicate than iCloud drive cannot synchronize.  Usually, it will simply help restart the Mac to launch the process of iCloud again.

  When you save Pages documents in iCloud drive, but not in the Pages folder, it will create an alias in the Pages folder pointing to the active page document that you saved in your folder of chemistry.
