My laptop Dell Inspiron 5100 has started incompatible.

My laptop Dell Inspiron 5100 has started an on again off again behavior.  If I stopped and try to restart it (by switch or auto reboot), it does not restart.  I get a metal "beep" of the machine.   If I'm persistent and try several times with the button, it can restart, but not always.  I thought it might be the start / stop switch had become sensitive to heat or was dying, but even when it is completely cold, not connected to an external power supply and since 3 + hours, it will still manifest this strangeness.  Any suggestions?   I am running Windows XP Pro and McAfee on this system.  I realize that it is an older machine, but I really like XP, and want to continue to use this set up if possible.

  • Clean Install on old laptop Dell Inspiron 5100

I received an old Dell 5100 in perfect condition (nine years) and want to perform an installation to a factory State. I have the original disc, but also the additional disk supplied with the computer, the version is XP Home sp1a. There seems to be no recovery partition No. Updates have been continuous and now show installed Sp3.

My problems are when I started the clean install, he says: I am about to load an earlier version, it's cool, but I'll be able to continue through the updates to sp3 sp1a on my factory drive? I think I read that I may have issues and also issues with the pre-installed Norton AntiVirus again after I read somewhere that this could be a problem as well. I don't find a definitive answer to the question of Norton. Internet Explore on the original disc to factory is also present the update issues?

I'd greatly appreciate some step by step instructions, if someone could help me.

Thank you very much for your help!

There will be no problem goes directly from SP1a SP3 (only a not too install SP2).

I see you are using a factory restore disc which comes with pre-installed software (Norton).  Just pay attention during installation and if asked if you want to install the decline of additional software to do so.  If you are not presented with an option, then you will have little choice but to accept the process of restoration of factory and when go into Add/Remove programs and uninstall unwanted programs.  DO NOT click on, launch or start all the programs you don't want!  Opening of these trial or bloatware programs can complete or start a stub which initiates the installation of the software.

None of this is really a problem Windows/Microsoft.

A1: Ask Dell and/or consult the specifications of Dell web/FAQ pages.

A2: The BIOS is not related to the operating system you have.  Turn off the computer, turn on the computer and immediately start typing F2.

    A3: Eventually--depends on the answer to Q1.

  • laptop (Dell Inspiron) with Windows 7 Home Premium is now slow to most of the activities - loading of the pages in the browser, etc.

I heard that after a few years of use, Windows-based computers lose their ability to function. This happened to me before and I bought a new laptop. Now, I think that it happens again. The laptop (Dell Inspiron) with Windows 7 Home Premium is now slow to most of the activities - loading of the pages in the browser, etc... He is also declining my VPN connection occasionally, but also my direct connection is very slow. Latency shows speedtest software provided by the ISP in addition of 250 ms, download speed of 1 MB/s (compared with 8 planned) and 0.05Mbps download. The ISP has corrected this once, but I'm wondering now if it is the computer which is slow rather than on the network because my laptop works well on the same network/router. Is there one solution to this other than another new laptop?

    Jonathan,

You say that your computer is slow, but all of the examples you give are rather than slow computer operations slow network communications.  To avoid any unnecessary work, check how fast the computer is on the tasks that don't use any network.

If it works fine for tasks not network then you can concentrate on the problems of network as being the only concern.

It has also become very slow for no network tasks you should study other causes.  Just as an example: If, like me, you sleep / turn off the computer when you are not using it then defrag will never work, so you can run it manually to make sure that doesn't cause problems.   Describe your symptoms in this thread so that someone can advise on the best course of action.

In the unlikely case where you must run Dell Factory Image Restore, then the instructions are in your manual PC *.  Before doing this, run Dell Datasafe Local Backup then click on Backup, recovery to create - media allows you to create a bootable USB of the partition that you can use the normal procedure that failing Dell Factory Image Restore [to do this, even if you have already solved your problems so that you could face if the hard drive has failed never completely].

    4. Select a keyboard layout and click Next.

    5. to access the recovery options, log in as a local user. To access the command prompt, type administrator in the user name field, and then click OK.

    6. click on Dell Factory Image Restore. The Dell Factory Image Restore welcome screen appears.

Note: Depending on your configuration, you may need to select Dell, then Dell Factory Image Restore factory tools.

    7. click on next. Data delete screen is displayed.

Note: If you do not wish to continue Factory Image Restore, click Cancel.

    8. check the box to confirm that you want to continue reformatting the hard drive and restoring the system software to the factory condition, then click Next.  The restore process begins and may take five or more minutes. Hello

Don't need you to worry, by making use of the formatted partition recovery software you can easily recover files after formatting the hard disk partition. Few days back, I spent the same similar problem where in lost some important files due to the installation of the OS. Then I tried this recovery software which really helped me to recover files after the installation of the operating system. So, you can download this software by following the below mentioned links.

  • Problems encountered during the upgradation of windows7 for windows8 in my laptop Dell Inspiron 5520.

I'm halfway to the upgradation of windows7 for windows8 in my laptop Dell Inspiron 5520. I wonder to uninstall software for USB 3.0, Dell stage, Bluetooth, ports etc. of windows7, citing compatibility problems. How do I proceed? Similar software will be installed during the process once I have finished installing windows8? Because now, my internet connection is through the USB data card. Please advice of emergency

What I suggest you do is download Windows 8 and create a bootable on a Flash DRIVE or DVD you can do an offline installation. Although the wizard upgrade of Windows 8 is the first download before to actually copy the files.

You can uninstall the proposed components that affect the download installation files.
