My link to Documents in the Start Menu folder is slow to load

I use Windows XP SP3. When I click on the My Documents folder in my menu start, it takes 20 seconds for the windows Explorer window to load. If I use the shortcut on the desktop, it loads immediately.

  • My Documents is redirected to a network folder.
  • If I click on my drive that is mapped to that folder in my computer, it opens also immediately.
  • When I put the My Documents folder to its default location, it will open immediately.
  • All documents I opened the folder my documents, if I use the shortcut to get them or not, to take 10 seconds or more to open.
  • All records on shared drives network open immediately.
  • All documents, I opened those shared drive records however also take 10 seconds or longer to load.
  • All users of the network are working properly.

Any suggestions?
GroppleGirl

I ended up coming back and restore my computer to an earlier point in time and that fixed the issue. Thanks for your reply.

I had two folders of paper in my user folder. I deleted apparently the one wrong because now when I put my curson on it in the Start Menu there is nothing there. Is there a way to restore, content?, file?, without creating another user?

    Hi Paul,.

    1. don't you make changes to the computer before the show?
    2. what happens when you try to access 'photos', or ' documents folders in the start menu?
    3. what happens when you select a picture in my photo folder in the start menu?
    4. do you get the error message?

  • Opening of the "Documents" on the start menu

When I select 'documents' on the right side of the start menu and then click twice on the doc to open it, I get an error message that the requested doc not be found.  However, if I open the MS Office application (Word or Excel) and then go to open the document, there is no problem.  How can I fix the problem of not being able to open the start menu?  This device worked well for a long time, but the end does not work correctly.

Right-click on the Documents icon and check the path on the general tab.  Does say "C:\Users\?  Otherwise, click on the location tab and type the appropriate path and click OK, and then see if the process works.

You can also open Documents by clicking on the Start Menu on your name and user then scroll on the left side to the Documents and then clicking on it to open it on the right side.  If you do so, the same problem occurs with the impossibility of finding the requested document?  It doesn't work anywhere in Windows Explorer, but works in real-world applications?  Have you tried other types of files outside the Office (as a PDF)?  The same problem occur?

If this is the case, it looks like there may be something wrong with the Windows Explorer.

Do you know when this problem started?  Try a system restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem started.  Here is the procedure: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/.  Don't forget to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points.  If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two.  NOTE: You will need to re - install any software and updates that you have installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for updates.

Make a boot minimum http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/929135?p=1 and see if the problem persists.  Otherwise, follow the procedures in the article to find the program/process causing the problem and either remove or uninstall.  Don't forget to put your system in normal condition when done as explained in the article.

Boot mode safe (repeatedly clicking the F8 key during the boot process until the menu appears) and see if the problem exists in this mode.  Please post back and let us know that this information is important to track the cause (regardless of the outcome).

Your user profile may be corrupted.  To fix this use http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-vista/Fix-a-corrupted-user-profile.  If that is the only available Administrator Profile (you need to be an administrator to fix this), enable the Hidden Administrator Account (HAA) using http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?&lang=en&cr=US&guid=&sloc=en-us&dg=microsoft.public.windows.vista.administration_accounts_passwords&p=1&tid=d20f9db4-7b2c-48be-a087-7835dc2a9055&mid=d20f9db4-7b2c-48be-a087-7835dc2a9055.  If you don't remember the password, try nothing because that's probably what you (or seller) did during the installation.  Once that is done, don't forget to disable the HAA to save it in case it is necessary once again and for safety reasons (since people often try to hack into systems using this account).  Do NOT use the HAA as your administrator account because if you lose the only administrator on the system account or it is damaged again, then you're watered. If that doesn't work, then let's try to check your hard disk for corruption and system files:

Go to start / all programs / accessories / command prompt and right click on command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

Type sfc/scannow, go and let it run.  It will scan and try to correct some of your system files.  If all goes well he comes complete with no corruption, it could not repair (if it has these post of corruption here or try to analyze it to find the problem or files using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228.  Try to put all the corrupt files here so that we can see if they can be repaired with good copies of the installation disc (unless there are too many).

While in the command prompt, type chkdsk /f /r and enter and let it run.  She might want to plan itself to start at the next startup.  Okay, then restart so that the program can run. It will scan and attempt to resolve any corruption or bad sectors on your hard drive and remove especially as a potential cause.

If it doesn't (or if SFC detects corruption it cannot repair), we you will need to do a repair/system upgrade using the Windows Vista Installation disc authentic (you own or that you can borrow from someone).  Here is the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html.  Although this will not affect your data, settings or programs, you should always back up your data before you start just be on the safe side. If other procedures do not work, it is almost certain to work.  You can have a lot of updates to re - install (including all you need to remove service packs).  If the version of the system came with SP1 or SP2 preinstalled and the disc is an earlier version, then you will need to make a record of slipstream as follows: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/151606-vista-sp1-slipstream-installation-dvd.html.

I hope this helps.  Please post back and let us know in all cases (and if the problem persists - try to include the answers to the question asked above).  If you have any questions as you go along, feel free to post back.

  • Documents in the Start Menu

    Hi all!

I have a strange question. When you go to your Start menu, click Documents on the right side, it opens your window of documents in Explorer. Well when you go back to your Start menu and click on Documents, once again, it bring up the window, even just opening. How can I make sure that whenever I return to click the Documents button in the start menu, it opens a new window and not the same? It's really bugging me! Help is very appreciated :)

If you press then 'shift' and click on documents and then choose 'Open a new process', what do you mean?

So the first time just then

The follow-up time of 'shift' + right click "then"open in the new process"

    Or have I misunderstood?

I don't know if there is a way to make this default value for the menu or not?

It will contain recent documents, but also has other types of files like images.

Sorry if you tried and it's not what you need, or I misunderstood.

I have the program set to the Classic Style button and Start Menu now appears above the horizontal line that separates the programs, Documents, etc., other links.  I want her to be out there, as this seems to be a kind of vicious circle.

I have absolutely no idea of what I can pushed have obtained this file where it is.  What should I do?

    Thank you.

You know what?  After playing with him for a while, I just jumped start "real" of the Classic Mode to normal mode (for Vista), and then he jumped to classic.  Solved the problem.  I do not know how, why, I didn't even do it intentionally.

I am completely free of malware, etc.

    Hello

This occurs if the file desktop.ini in the recent folder is deleted.

    a. Click Start, type "% AppData%\Microsoft\Windows" and press {ENTER}

    b. right click on the folder named recent, then choose Delete. Click Yes when you are prompted.

    c. now, type the command "shell: recent" in the start - menu search box, and then press {ENTER}.

Note: The command above recreates the recent folder, as well as a new desktop.ini file and opens the file.

    d. disconnect and return connection. You should now see the context menu list of recent items clear when you right click on the recent items on the start menu folder.
