My Local C drive is nearly full! Help!

only 3.59 39.9 GB GB is left in my local disk C.

I deleted all the Temp files, uninstall the software without importance, deleted all possible files.

Then when I checked individually each folder in the C drive, the total size is 18 GB.

So why it displays full (red list).

And what do I do?

SG

You did not include your swap file that is equal to your ram or your hibernation file which is also equal to your ram.

There is a good third-party tool called (free) the Jam software treesize which will tell you what is using the space

BTW, this is a REALLY small HD for win 7.  Typical installations are 40-60 GB

My laptop has 2 dual processor x 75 GB.  Tried to move the files to the E drive but they double and are difficult to locate. Life should be easier than this!  C drive is nearly full, E drive uses only 30%.  What happens when the C drive is full?

    [Moved from comments]

    Simple!

You get a BIGGER hard drive.

The 'norm' for laptops these days is at least 500 GIGs.

Which is the same amount that I have in my table.

    2 x 250 GB.

I have XP Pro on one single, Windows 7, on the other. (And each of them uses ONLY about HALF of these hard drives!)

In a month or two, I'll upgrade to 2 x 1 terabyte hard drives. sounds a little one 'kill too much', I know, but hey, my computer IS able to be updated that he got so far it?

Yours is in need of an upgrade too, suggest that there is, to solve your problem!

  • My C drive is nearly full, but my D drive is almost empty

Hi all. I have a hard drive 1 TB, divided in a 250 GB drive C and 750 D player. My problem is that the C drive is nearly full, but the large D drive is almost empty. I have urgent need to move the partition, or transfer a huge chunk of files from C to D drive. The first would be better, or even delete the partition and have one disk, but I tried to move the partition using the Windows utility, and all I could do was reduce the C drive. I don't see how to remove the partition either.

Which leaves the possibility of moving one of the large folders on drive C to D, which seems risky, but an it vendor told me that I could move the big folder of users (75GB). It seemed risky, but being desperate I tried - and got the error code 0 x 80070057. I would be grateful for any advice on how to solve this stupid problem.

You can safe your Documents, photos, videos and music files to the other disk.  Navigate to the folder users, your user folder.  Right-click on each one and choose move.

Remember that the overall performance will begin to suffer when you exceed 75% c in use.

However, your real problem is the fact that your hard drive is partitioned and it need not be.

Copy all your data on the D drive in an external storage device.

Right click on computer, select Manage

    Click on disk management

Right click on D and choose Delete volume

Right click on the C partition and choose the volume of measurement.  Extend it up to the limit.

Copy the data on your external storage on the largest new C space

Now, you'll have one almost your entire partition 1 TB.

  • MY c DRIVE is nearly full. Can I use my external hard drive because it has a lot of space

My ' it shows only 123 MB available disc. I have a 500 GB external hard drive, but am not sure how to use it to free up space on my drive "C".

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi Roy,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

The description of the problem you have provided, I understand that your C drive is full and trying to move some information on external hard drive.

I will certainly help you in this matter.

If you have data files in the C drive, you can go ahead and move them to the external hard drive. You will not be able to move the files to the program on the external hard drive.

In order to get the free space in C drive, you can go ahead and uninstall the software bit that you use it often.

    See the link.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-in/Windows-Vista/uninstall-or-change-a-program

You can also delete files using disk cleanup, which would reduce the number of unnecessary files on your hard disk to free up disk space.

  • C drive is nearly full, E reader almost empty

    Hi all

I'm not computer so apologies in advance.

I read other threads here about the same problem, but am still not sure if there is anything I can do about it. I have a laptop with VISTA home premium pre-installed SATELLITE. The computer is about 5 years old.

The 'C' of VISTA disk has 7.87 GB free of 55.8 GB while the DATA disk 'E' has 51.9 free GB of 54.4 GB.

As the often short computer slow or hangs and must be stopped down and reopened I have in the past attempted to advance the things in 'C' to 'E '. All my data files and photos are now on the 'E' drive and I have today removed all unnecessary files from drive 'C' using the Microsoft program.

Other responses here, it seems that I can not move anything else drive "C" so that I need to increase the memory of the computer and fills the disc 'C' with all Microsoft updates continue to occur?

If the computer needs to install programs that take all space a 'reader' why don't manufacturers increase the capacity of this "drive" day 1?

    Should I buy another computer?

Any advice, simply explained, would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

I read your ad but I'm sorry I m still don t know what your problem is

You said this laptop computer runs slow and sometimes hangs.
In my opinion it has nothing to do with the size of the partitions on the HARD disk.

Your laptop is 5 years old and I think that the system has not been reinstalled in the past
It would be possible that the system is confused upwards and therefore the device run slowly.

I would recommend to reinstall the system again, but to save the data before proceeding with the installation of the new

PS: Also check the cooling fans I think that after 5 years of use, the cooling modules are dusty using a jet of air compressed to clean dust fans and debris inside the laptop to prevent the laptop cooling and this may affect functionality.

  • My C drive is nearly full despite put me pictures and videos on the E drive. How can I see which fits the ability to drive C?

Sorry! I wrote my question in the title!

To study disk space, use download and install Treesize (freeware).
    https://www.Jam-software.de/customers/downloadTrial.php?ARTICLE_NO=80&language=en&PHPSESSID=6odgempt76un9q9nkj7luf5be0

    Information about Treesize
    http://www.Jam-software.com/treesize_free/

When you open Treesize scan select in the Menu and you will see a list of drives. Click on C and it will generate a list of files. Display names and 6 larger files sizes and the total at the top of the list.

To reconcile Treesize figures with the size of a partition (or drive), you must make allowances according to this formula:
Partition C + folder System Volume Information + Free space + file compression gain = ability to drive or partition

To determine the size of the System Volume Information folder of Vista select Start, all programs, accessories, right-click on command prompt and select run as administrator. Type "vssadmin list ShadowStorage" without the quotes and press ENTER. The information provided is as follows:

    Memory used ghost space.

    Shadow storage space.

    Maximum of space ghost.

  • Error C drive is nearly full. How can I free up space on this drive?

  • My C drive is nearly full, can I send the 'Users' folder to 'C' on another disk "D"?

I am usiinf Windows 7 Professional, my 'C' drive is an SSD with 'only' 56 Gig. My hard drive "D" is a one terabyte with more than 900 GB of space left on it.

My file 'Users' is 13 Gig.

    DAVID BROOKER

I don't think you can move the Users folder, but you can disable Hibernate and move your pagefile to free space, and you can move your Documents, music, pictures and videos folders.  You can uninstall some programs, and then reinstall them using the custom option and put them on the D: drive too.

    Good luck.

  • My Hard disk drive (C) is full and can not save on my local drive (D)... Help!

I can't save anything else on my computer and I feel as if I had barely whether registered here initially. My (C) drive is almost full and my local disk drive (D) has so much space to this topic, but I don't know how to do as my default player. I tried following the suggestions of the people online, but nothing helped. Can anyone help?

The first thing to do is run the disk cleanup utility. Instructions here.

Then, try to move some files and folders. There are a few different folders, you can move from the C drive to the D drive. So let me suggest you only start moving your files, documents, music, photos and video from C to d. here are the instructions. You need to do one at a time. To find them, in Solution Explorer, expand the C drive, find your name under users and all your personal files are there.

After these two things, tell me how much space you have on C.

  • Help local disk drives of switching

When you save downloads?  Or search for the alternative location.

But a more permanent solution - to expand drive C (if possible) with a third-party utility or the image reader and somehow apply this image to a new disk that is bigger... or - in other words - get a larger overall size of C:.

  • Memory of the computer on the Local C drive does not increase after deleting all the photos and the video.
