Hi RebeccaMerrick,

· What is the number and the model of the computer?

· What version of windows media player installed on the computer?

· What is the file format of the media file that you are trying to play?

· Do you remember all the recent changes on the computer before the show?

Most of the time, playback in Windows Media Player problems are caused by one of the following problems:

a. corrupted media: corrupted media can cause irregular as missing audio or video, abrupt or jump.

b. damaged codecs: Codecs are software programs compress and uncompress audio or video data. Damaged codecs can cause missing audio or video, unusually fast or slow playback, or distortion in the video (such as lines).

To learn more about Codecs, you can check the link below: Codecs: frequently asked questions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Codecs-frequently-asked-questions (valid for XP)

Alternatively, you can run DirectX from the link below: Description of the DirectX Diagnostic tool: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/190900

  • Windows Media Player makes calls of NOR-fast Motion (Revisited)

About 2 years ago, I posted a message on this forum about a condition where running Windows Media Player increased the rate that my Visual Basic 6 program has been able to contact a PCI-7344 Panel using calls OR-Motion (original post). To summarize the post, my VB program be called functions OR-Motion speed after that the computer is started and simply in the process of running Windows Media Player would allow my program make calls of NOR-faster Motion. I created a program demo, posted and was able to reproduce the situation constantly using several different computers & cards PCI-7344. However, no one at National Instruments could reproduce that; It seems that the calls function always ran fast for them and never ran slowly. I finally gave up and let the issue of dying and said reluctantly, our customers just start WMP to increase the speed of the machine.

Now, I'm working on rewriting the software to the machine using VB.NET 2008 and Windows 7. My first hope was that the problem had gone with either the new VB, or Windows 7, but that doesn't seem to be the case. When I was with Windows XP, I could get recall for an improvement of the functions running WMP. With Windows 7, I can not get the increased rate even after the execution of WMP.

Today, I took two new computers identical and loaded Windows XP on Windows 7 and one on the other. I put a new PCI-7344 card in each computer. I then installed version 8.2 of NO-Motion on each. With the exception of Microsoft .NET 3.5, which is necessary for my test VB.NET program, no other software has been installed, do not even Visual Basic. I started on each PC, ran my test program to determine the calls/sec, start Windows Media Player and my test program is represented. Here are the results:

Test Windows XP & VB 6 program-128/s before launching WMP, 1024 Kbps after the execution of WMP

Test of Windows XP & VB.NET 2008-128/s before WMP program, 1024 Kbps after WMP

VB 6-256 calls/s before launching WMP, 256 Kbps calls after execution of WMP and Windows 7 test program

Windows 7 test program and VB.NET - 256 Kbps calls before you launch WMP, 256 Kbps calls after execution of WMP

As you can see, WMP has increased the rate of call of function OR-Motion on Windows XP, but has no effect in Windows 7. In addition, it did not matter which version of Visual Basic has been used.

My first question is: what determines the rate at which he called on a NOR-Motion function? It seems that the maximum is 1024/s, which is consistent with what I saw 2 years ago even on slower computers. I would have thought that would be a faster PC function calls could also be made faster, but appears not to be the case. And is there some significance at 128, 256, and 1024 rates?

My next question is: someone at - it else noticed faster or slower speeds using NOR-Motion after moving to Windows 7?

The software that I work on the controls, a machine used on a production floor where the cycle time is critical and even save a fraction of a second can be important. With Windows XP, we have reduced the cycle time of 5 or 6 seconds by running WMP. We would like to start using Windows 7, but we won't be able to if it means cycle slower times on our machines.

The source code for VB 6 and VB.NET 2008 for the demo program is attached. This is the computer that I used for the test today, but I was also able to reproduce this on computers Dell, LS, Xycom and Allen-Bradley. I also used several different versions of NOR-Motion and WMP with the same results.

  • My ongoing media player make copies of all the songs in the library.

Everytime I open Windows Media Player for my music, I find that there are multiple copies of each song in my library. I tried to delete the extra copies but they keep coming back with even more copies and then I get a message that says that media player cannot play a song because it can't find the file. Apparently when I delete some extra copies of the file needed to play the song is deleted, I think. Why I get so the number of copies of each song and it keeps progress so that I can have 5 copies or more. Whenever I have delete songs and I come back, I think even more copies. Now my library's all grimy upward and I paid for and downloaded music is lost and so is the money I had spent. What is going on?

Looks like a corrupted media library, then I suggest that you change it. Note firstly reset the library will make you lose all play counts and ratings too. Then, follow these steps:

    -Restart the PC.
-Click Start, type services.msc in the search field and press ENTER. In Services, locate the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service . If its status is started , double-click the service, and then click stop .
-Click Start, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft in the search field and press ENTER. This folder opens in Windows Explorer.
-In this folder, rename the folder Media Player as Old Media Player . If you do not see the folder, then it is probably hidden. Set Explorer to view the hidden files and folders and show protected system files.
-Launch WMP, your library will have been reset and will be rebuilt. Check if the problem persists. Tim Baets

  • Windows Media Player makes me crazy

I write and record music and I just recently recorded a song on my computer and it mixed down like an MP3 player. Despite recording MP3 file with marked information in WMP, it shows that the song I created was made by someone else. I click on library and try to change information through tag editor advanced contraption. I got it to say composed by: [my name] but the album cover still shows it as someone another same album if in the library, she has my own album cover.

It makes no sense that WMP should automatically dictate what a song even if I wrote and created the song completely from scratch. My Death Metal music all WMP trying to say that it is a Japanese composer, I have never heard of a kind of music that doesn't sound like anything close to Heavy Metal.

I don't want to give my MP3 to my friends only to have him say it was made by someone else when he was not.

Also, I want to change the name of my band, or the song is out of the question.

not an expert but the other guy and you have covered the eponymous song of coincedence and the other guy was the first?

Google the other guys tune in and check it out.

whenever I try to burn a cd, my computer goes to a blue screen and restarting my computer, what should I do?

    Hello

Most likely, there is a problem with the CD/DVD drive. You can burn a data disc when
don't use not WMP? Close all programs, put in a flammable disk and use the data method.
If burning a data disc works then you have any add-ons for WMP12?

    Hello jamessharmon_3349

It is designed to run reduced to save resources for other applications that are running at the same time.

Check your display settings to see if your screen saver is set to activate so that maybe that's why your Windows Media Player minimizes full screen.

You can use the Task Manager to see what processes running high when WMP is reduced to a minimum. It could be a resource as Antivirus taking over CPU causing WMP decrease its size.

    Thank you

  • Method used by Windows Media Player error correction

    Hello.

Could someone tell me - in technical terms - that the option "use error correction" in Windows Media Player makes when copying audio CD tracks?

I would like to make possible more precise PMR using WMP, but the lack of information about the method used by WMP special error correction makes it difficult know when or even if you need to select the option.

For example, I wonder if the use of error correction could result in a less accurate RIP (for example, if the method used favors estimate on rereads multiples of a CD damaged surface.) Also, for example, assuming that the error correction is always beneficial, I wonder if it is always worth the burden of extra time (for example, tearing a new CD with no surface damage.)

I am aware that the audio CD support a system of "forward error correction", that is to correct errors code being inserted in the music of the data from the drive. What is the allusion makes WMP error correction? (If Yes, then why don't I have hear occasional noise and click in the .wma file generated when "use error correction" is unchecked?)

A technical response would be highly appreciated. Thank you.
