  Now, it's a boring, which several other users have reported under different threads. Because I couldn't find a post with quite similar symptoms, I made my own topic.

  I am running Windows 7 Professional 64 x on an old one (Intel Quad-Core, 4 GB RAM, 524 GB HDD - in case, for reasons unknown to me, someone needs to know it...) , DellXPS system. Not more than a few weeks ago my home button keyboard unresponsive on this system.

  I did a lot of troubleshooting, but these measures have been carried out:
  * Tested keyboard on the other system, touch ESC WORKS on the other system
  * Reinstalled keyboard and USB drivers on the XPS system, ESC key does NOT WORK on the XPS system
  * Connected to a never-before-used USB keyboard, ESC key does NOT WORK on the XPS system
  * Opened and cleaned the keyboard, tested, Escape key WORKS, Don't DO NOT WORK on the XPS system
  * Tested in various applications: Desktop (Esc will close the start menu), Photoshop, Vegas, Notepad, games full screen OpenGL,Escape key does NOT WORK on the XPS system
  * Google for possible solutions, none found...

  Note: Highlights show where the ESC key does not work. I am troubled by the XPS system.

  In case you missed it my list of troubleshooting steps, the ESC key works on another computer of Windows 7 system.

  I have to still garble my self through the registry in the hope that someone might have an idea of the steps to follow before I lose a day to see the things that I honestly know squat. Please help if you can; What could be the issue/common application that separates this key in the Windows world and how could I solve this problem?

  No major changes have been made since the keyboard unresponsive with the exception of:
  Updates to FireFox (including modules Ad-Block Plus, NoScript, which have also been updated).
  Windows Update
  A 10.x MB World of Warcraft patch/update on a keyboard AFTER week unresponsive

  Already installed the patches StarCraft II and World of Warcraft, which none touched my keyboard to my knowledge. I finished almost all of StarCraft II and had no problems...

  I know it's a bit old, but I was living the question myself.  Thought I had found the problem and it was fixed but then it happened again.  Came to find out (by closing a program and test the ESC key) it's because Photoshop.

  With the help of Photoshop, which could match the case you mention.  Not only that but I did a search ('ESC' does not not Photoshop) and stumbled on some answers/solutions workaround for it.  One is to use SHIFT + ESC ESC does not work.

  Hope this helps someone.  I fell it using my original research ("Windows 7" BSE "ESC" keyboard does not) and know that others are likely to see.  If you have not already learn the cause, in the year + since your original message, then voila.

  I upgraded to 10.11.5, restarted, and now none of the applications in Microsoft Office.  Here is the error that you start Word.  Can anyone help please?  No one knows what is the cause?

  A little older version of MSOffice 2011 auto-updater does not work on newer Mac OS, and so you need to download the cumulative updaters required for using the built-in automatic update feature in the future.

• MS Office 2013 does not work in the new computer

  Our new computer, optiplex 3020, came with MS Office 2013; However, we have never been able to use all of the Office components.  We still get an error, for example. Microsoft Word has stopped working.  A problem caused the blocking of the program works correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.  We can see the document in the error message.

  You can try to remove the normal.dotm template file. This may solve the problem:

  Quit Word

  Press Windows key + R

  Copy and paste the following text in the field:

  Press the Enter key

  Find and delete the Normal.dotm file

  Restart Word.

  If this does not work, try to maintain the CTRL key when you start Word. If Word starts, you have a bad component loading snap. Let me know and I'll post instructions.

• Microsoft Office 365 does not work after update of El Capitan 10.11.4 March 27

  I've upgraded to El Capitan 10.11.4 March 27 and my Microsoft Office 365, specifically the word & excel stopped working properly. Files can be opened, but when you save the new content, and then close the document, it does not record properly (and no backup or temporary file cannot be found). Once opened again, they eventually return to the saved before the update version. Thus losing the latest added to the document after the update.

  If anyone has experienced this or can help, I'd appreciate it. This is my first mac and I thought it would be much easier to use than a PC, but I'm not sure I can take this abuse much more time

Note that Office 365 indicates only that you purchased Office in the subscription, but it does not indicate what version of Office you are using.   I don't think you have a problem of compatibility. Cannot read from the disk means usually only two things. The disc is scratched and unreadable or your cd/dvd-rom needs to be cleaned or is bad.

  That's what I suggest. First, try another drive just to see if it is the cd/dvd drive or not... If drive bed the other disk go to the next step. There is a non-conventional but difficulty, has worked several times for me, especially on dvd players. Go the the pantry and get your can of furniture Polish. Spray a small amount directly on your desktop drive. Lightly wipe it with a clean cloth. Place the disc in the cd/dvd drive. Now, don't be stupid. If the drive reads the disc immediately create a new folder on your desktop and name it Office. Copy the files from the disk and paste them into the new folder. It is perhaps our only chance to get the files and create a new record. Let me know if you are able to do this and we'll go from there.

  I have two new computers that came pre-installed with W7HP 64 bit and both are pre-installed with the product obviously not commercial office 2007 which we do not want to use.  I own copies of Office 2003 and use these products on new computers.  I tried loading Office 2003 on a PC and had a lot of errors especially trying to run Outlook 2003.  I am now using Thunderbird as it works and really miss Word/Excel 2003 - (Office 2007 ribbons wah! what were you guys thinking!)

  I have also 16 bit score test programs written and compiled years using Quickbasic 4.5 specific use in my practice.  Any ideas on how I can get those pennies W7?

  I understand that there is a professional version of Windows 7 that integrates WOW64.  This will allow me to run Office 2003 (Outlook esp) without errors?

  Can I run programs QB4.5 with W7Pro?

  If Yes, please indicate how should I proceed?

  My card mother P4 PC died and was replaced by a Council of more recent double-thread.  I kept the HD (Win2K) and it starts and runs very well.  However, the Office XP Prof who has one large on the P4 Board now says she must be reactivated.  I put the original CD of OEM MSOffice in, but he replies that he cannot find 'PRORET. MSI"and fails.  A search of the CD can't find any file.  However, it installed and works perfectly, when the jury P4 was in the PC.  How can I recover my Office features?  I tried to upgrade Win2K to XP, but the OEM XP CD refuses to go, saying he has no upgrade available from Win2K XP.

  Follow these steps.

  Go to Start | Settings | Control Panel and double click on automatic updates. I'll explain why later.

  Then, tick the option at the bottom to turn off automatic updates, and then click apply/OK.

  Then, go to start, run, copy and paste this command and click OK: services.msc

  In the list of Services, you can see Background Intelligent Transfer Service ?

  If it is not listed, follow these steps to register the BITS service.

  Open the Windows search tool, copy / paste the following text, and then click Search: qmgr.dll

  Research should show this file in the following locations:

  C:\Windows\System32

  Double click on it and then on the general tab, click the Start button to start the service manually. This is just a test to make sure that it works correctly.

  If you get 2 error: cannot find the specified file, click on start, then run again and copy / paste the following command, and then click OK:
  Tracking Add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS\Parameters /v ServiceDll /t REG_EXPAND_SZ /d %windir%\System32\qmgr.dll

  Reboot again and try once more to start the PIECES. It should work fine now, but in the unlikely case where it fails again, run the following command, and then press ENTER:
  Reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackup

  Reboot once more and then do the following.

  Go to this link and install the IE8 December Update:

Acrobat 8 reader telling me I need a serial number to continue using the program and will close and I lose all my work. Also, Microsoft Office Word 2007 again I need a product key number.   Adobe Acrobat Reader is free, it shouldn't charge for continuous use.  Packages of creator Adobe (Adobe Acrobat Standard, Pro, Pro Extended) cost money.  Microsoft Office is often loaded on a computer as a trial package.  You need to follow up with Sony on these items to make sure if they sent packets of the trial or fully paid packages, and if they are supposed to be freed from the packages that your only relief must come from Sony - we cannot help you here.
