  Thanks for posting. Please, try the following.

  • Make sure that Outlook Express is not working.
  • Open the Recycle Bin on your Windows desktop .
  • Locate the files ".bak" corresponding to Outlook Express folders that you want to retrieve.
    • The '.bak' file will be named as the folder in Outlook Express.
    • To restore a folder called "Archive", look for "Archive.bak", for example.
  • Click on the file '.bak' with the right button of the mouse.
  • Select restore from the menu.
  • Locate the file in Windows Explorer and open the folder that contains.
  • Drag and drop the file ".dbx" corresponding to the Outlook Express folder, you want to get back to your Office .
  • In the Outlook Express store folder, click the '.bak' file to be retrieved using the right button of the mouse.
  • Select Rename from the menu.
  • Change the file extension ".bak" in ".dbx".
    • If the file was called "Archive.bak", for example, make sure that it is named "Archive.dbx" now.
  • Open Outlook Express.
  • If your emails have been recovered, remove the ".dbx" file you moved to the desktop .

  Also, if you cannot find the files in the above location search your computer *. Bak

  I move from a Windows XP computer to a Windows 7 computer. My old computer has Outlook Express. I've migrated successfully my emails and messages archived in Thunderbird on the new computer. I also migrated the Outlook Express address book using an external hard drive, but I was not able to understand how to find the Outlook Express address book in Thunderbird. The only way that I could find the Outlook Express address book, is to go to 'tools' and 'import' and then import the Outlook Express address book. When I do this, the Outlook Express address book features, duplicate entries (because I imported twice now). When the Outlook Express address book shows, it works without problems and I can use it to send emails. But once I close the Outlook Express address book, I can't find him. Other messages, I see that the "Address book" tab in Thunderbird should open a window containing a list of available on the left side address books.   Deleted items is probably damaged. On the off chance that you want messages to be saved in deleted items, (a garbage can), move them to a local folder, you create and then follow these steps.
   
  Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.
   
  In Windows XP, the files of user OE (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.
   
  With OE closed, find the DBX file for deleted items and delete it.  Another will be created automatically when you open OE.
   
   
   
  General precautions for Outlook Express:
   
  Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

  Quite suddenly OE will not delete messages in my Inbox after that I read the using the button Delete 'X' some but it will be no more.  They can be removed by using ctrl-alt-delete.  My boxes of sent and deleted items are almost empty.  This has only become a less of an issue these days.  I'm open to suggestions.

  Officially, Microsoft recommends that you upgrade your e-mail client of Windows Live Mail instead of using Outlook Express, according to this article:

  I have a number of shortcut icons on my desktop Windows 7 (RC1) to the network elements - some are files on a NAS server, some are mapped as the floppy drives, etc. However, Windows 7 seems to sometimes simply remove all without notice, and I have to recreate all the shortcuts to my NAS articles again.

  I wondered at first if this may have been because Windows sometimes would start until all my network devices is available, but when that happens, he scored just correctly icons with a red x to indicate that he could not find them at startup, and as soon as the NAS is available then shortcuts work fine.

  If you create shortcuts from desktop to removable storage locations such as NAS icons will disappear from time to time because Windows 7 has a built in scheduling the task to clean up unused or broken links.

  To prevent the task to run, you must disable the task in the task schedular: Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-Task Scheduler
  Expand the tree in the left pane until you get to the Task Scheduler Library-Microsoft-Windows-diagnosis.
  In the right pane, right click on the named scheduled task, and then click on disable.

  Is there is no bak file then my DBXpress program (www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/) will extract messages from dbx files which contain messages, but very often, the files are filled with zeros where the messages used to be.  If this is the case, then DBXpress has an excerpt of the disk device that will bypass the file system and analyse the disc themselves clusters for messages and if they are still present on the hard drive, it will retrieve the.  Its the only program that has this feature.

  To import contacts and email from Hotmail addresses in your Outlook Express address book:

  • Set up access to your Hotmail account in Outlook Express.
    • If you already have contacts in your address book Outlook Express for the current identity and want to make sure that you only import Hotmail contacts, create a new Outlook Express identity for the Hotmail account.
  • Select Tools | Address book... from the menu in Outlook Express.
  • Choose Tools | Synchronize now in the menu of the address book.
    • If this choice is not available, make sure that you do not share contacts between Outlook Express and Outlook. Close and restart Outlook Express if you have made any changes to the contact sharing settings.
  • To import the contacts in a program other than Outlook Express e-mail, export the address book from the current identity and use the import feature of your mail client to add contacts from the .csv file.
