JPEG is a compressed file format, unlike the PSD and TIFF. It is unzipped when you reopen, balloon back up to the size of the original file.

Do not confuse the size of the file on the disk with the size of the image in pixels.

Jpeg compression is aggressive, irreversible and cumulative, in a destructive Word, and editing JPEG is therefore not recommended. JPEG should be considered a final delivery format, do not change again.
