My t420s runs at a normal temperature?

I just bought a used thinkpad t420s and I was wondering if it is overheating or running at the right temperature. The CPU is idling in the middle to low 50 (degrees Celsius) and will reach 95 degrees Celsius 95 premium running. When running a virus scan and watch a video YouTube the chip works in the high 80s. Is this normal? According to Intel, the max temp allowed is 100 degrees Celsius. I have all the power settings for maximum performance. Here is a link to my http://ark.intel.com/products/52231/Intel-Core-i7-2620M-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_40-GHz chip

I could mention that using TPFC.63 I always get the top fan then the bios will control them, so I think the TEPS is normal, because bios would probably spooler fans at full power if the system was about to stop from overheating.

Hi Daniel250,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

According to the application, we realized that the problem with the system is overheating on your ThinkPad T420s.

The normal temperature of 72 degrees centigrade CPU and GPU at 68 degrees centigrade is in the safe temperature range.

If you feel that your laptop is hotter than usual, clean the vents and fan through the use of a fan pump to remove dust particles stuck in vents and it also perhaps with thermal paste between your radiator and the processor core can have exhausted. You might want to make a good thermal paste and apply on the processor core to ensure the best heat transfer property

I hope this helps.

Best regards

Is this normal temp? and if not what is the normal temperature of this computer laptop while in game?

    Thank you

In short - I do not recommend playing at this high temperature.

Long answer - it will not send Sparks, but the components will lose effectiveness and can be damaged over a period of time. How long? Maybe 6 months, 1 year, 2 years - it all depends on how much you play.

Heat is an enemy of computers. The cooler you can run them, the better.

My current time, because all settings/changes, do not exceed 80 all in game. GPU - max 78, CPU - max 81

What is the normal temperature on Satellite A200 psae6?

What temperature do you mean exactly?
    CPU, GPU?

Notes; the temperature depends on the heat dissipation of the unique pieces such as the CPU and GPU.
The heat dissipation is higher when this part would go with superior performance.
So it depends on the use of the laptop how temperature would increase

What is the normal temperature of a CPU 2006 2.2 model MBP?

The temperature is a function of the number and types of applications you have open, room temperature and how the MBP itself is physically installed.  I have seen temperatures as low as 38 ° c (rare) upwards to 90 ° c (resource intensive applications).  Non-intensive some applications using usually results in a temperature between 40 ° c to 50 ° c.

I would begin to worry more about 60 C buy and use a computer laptop cooling pad. • What is a normal temperature of the CPU - Satellite A200-1Yk

After several accidents, I installed the utility coretemp on A200-1YK my wife.
He told me that the CPU runs at about 90 degrees, sometimes up to 95.
According to [Intel | http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLA4K#] there a maximum of 100 degrees.

That seems quite high, but I don't know what should be the normal operating temperature. Anyone who has the same model can tell me at what temperature should I expect it to run to?

    Hello

The temperature of the CPU is always different. It always changes during execution of programs.
Using high performance applications, all parts such as CPU or GPU must operate with maximum performance and it would increase the internal temperature.

But you're right. 90 degrees looks a bit too high, even if the processor can handle this temperature.
I think that the cooling modules must be verified. Sometimes the dust and debris prevents the fans work properly and air can circulate properly.

You can try to remove the dust using a jet of compressed air... in most cases, it helps to

I have a hp dv5 1002 with the same processor and I must say it's a big heating unit. weather hot ive seen do go at 100 degrees c after you run age dragon on graphics. This is so a few precautions that you must take

    1) keep on a desk, never keep on a bed/mattress or something blocking your circulation of air. It is best if you keep it on some sort of support or a cooling block. I found this woth a cooling pad that he will never overheat is the best way to go.

    (2) download and install the updates from hp driver for your motherboard. im sorry I do not have the link myself, but I managed to find via google.  The update will make your fan run a little faster and keep your laptop cooler

    (3) install software of temperature monitoring (free) as a Core Temp which is free and comes with Google desktop for windows vista gadgets and 7, so you can control your temp in real time on your desktop.

    (4) make sure that your fan and the heat sink is clean. On some hp computers laptop cleaning of the radiator can be a pain in the thigh, so its best you let a professional clean try it for you once or twice in a year

Most of the computers laptops hp processors amd automatically reduce the basic tension when the temperature rises too high, so if your pc is overheating, you will see a significant reduction in performance.

Remember that amd processors generally run a little more warm then intels and new hp laptops have an ineffecient cooling system so overheating is to be expected. But the mind a bit of love and care, it shouldn't cause you any problems.

The above points just keep in mind and you'll be fine.

  • can a t420s run on a battery of ultrabay only?

does anyone know if this can happen? I'm looking to stock up on the main batteries regular but not all the time lost to a reboot. stick fundamentally wrong in the ultrabay only battery when the main one is low, remove the swap, a principal in another main battery and finally remove the ultrabay battery without having to Hibernate or shut down the computer.

The only way I see using 2 batteries and main battery 1 ultrabay is:

    1. only insert the main battery and use it until it downstairs.

    2. Insert the battery in the ultrabay. Laptop will switch ultrabay.

    3. replace the main battery to newly loaded while the laptop is on ultrabay battery

Knit until ultrabay and main batteries are completely discharged.

I think only in this way that you could achieve 10 hours of normal work of the batteries.

    Hello

Make sure that the system has adequate ventilation. If a PC off all power and remove and reinstall the cards.

Check with the manufacturer Support system and forums (if any) that there are known problems.

  • Hello, question about T420 (i5 - 2520 m) temperature

    Hi all

First Im happy new owner of T420 laptop computer with processor i5 - 2520 m, second hand one, but I hope it's all good

Later after a short run, I noticed that the temperature is high enough, on idle temperature is about 47-50 ° C and if I put little bit load on it climbs very quickly to 70 and 80 C and when putting massive load very quickly then more than 90 C but then I stopped test because I think it is best to run the temperature below "border".

My question, is this normal? also, I noticed that he himself clocks really often to 2990 Mhz and 3189 Mhz (by CoreTemp)

even they say the i5 will be ok with 100 c but I qould feel better if he stays in low mode... until I t400 with p8400 CPU and I don't remember such temperatures...

my new laptop, the ebay seller noted, have 6 months warranty factory... is that problems of temperature covered by one, is still a problem

Please people, put my mind at ease, if it's normal and give me advice what to do if it isn't normal (I see not usual in my head, this temperature seems to be the solution to high normal temperature)

in any case thanks for the quick reply

Here are the specs. Can someone tell me which is the normal temperature of the CPU of the laptop above?

    Hello

The CPU temperature depends on the use of the laptop and so it s not easy to say what would be the value of the ideal temperature.

According to this site of specification Intel CPU T5500 CPU temperature could affect up to 100 ° C
    http://processorfinder.Intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SL9SQ

But of course the internal CPU for laptop is much lower.
Running common applications temperature could increase to 50-60 ° C

    Hello

Well, it's not easy to say what the normal temperature may be because it depends on the central unit using performance. If the CPU works more with the performance of 100% if the CPU temperature is higher.
Also, I found this very interesting site on different processors and maximum temperature of the cover.
