My VMware workstation is very slow!

I use a software called SAP ECC 6.0 through the VMware Workstation and software is installed in my computer, but the performance is very ugly. Even the mouse arrow moves slowly in the virtual machine window. My laptop is good, I have a processor intel 2.53 hz, 4 GB of RAM, HD (7200 RPM).

Anyone know how I can speed this softaware?

My OS is windows 7 (64), and I'm running windows server 2003 in the virtual machine.

Thank you

OK, after reviewing your vmware.log file...

-Your host has a dual-core processor, so you don't need to configure a single host with more than 1 vCPU.  Please reconfigure your comments for 1 vCPU.

-You said that your host has 4 GB of RAM installed, but you have allocated 3.5 GB of RAM at your prompt, that leaves only 500 MB of RAM to your host run.  Suggest to lower the amount of memory live allocated to your guest.  Start with 1 GB and move up from there.

-I see some indications of slow storage host.  What type of storage is your guest stored on?  (External USB?  Network drive?  Others?)

-I see you are using Workstation 6.5.1.  6.5.3 workstation is now available and is free to download for you.  I don't think that 6.5.3 has specific fixes for your problem, but something to think about.

-If not already done, please configure CD-ROM of your invited to start "disconnected."

Give the above a try and tell us if it helps.

  • Newbie: VMWare + professional Vista very slow on macbook

    Hello

I'm trying VMWare fusion for the first time, so I hope that I'm doing something wrong. I have a MacBook (OS X 10.5.5, 2.2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM) and I installed a trial version of VMWare Fusion 2.0 (downloaded yesterday) 30 days. I used to install Windows Visa Business x 64, although the process took hours.

I rebooted the MacBook, set the memory of the Virtual Machine to max (896 MB) and without reprieve from the virtual machine. It took 12 minutes to come back to life.

I had installed the VMWare tools, and when he came back to life, he reported that they were obsolete.

The MacBook is plugged in, do not currently running on the battery.

Why is it SO slow? Even clicking on start them button takes minutes. I could move to 2 GB of memory, or switch to XP.

    Thanks for helping a newbie

    j

Vista really needs 2 GB of its own min. to function well. The best solution would be to go to XP as you say unless there is a good reason why you need Vista. However, I still would upgrade the Macbook with more memory in any case.

  • Ubuntu 11.04 very slow after upgrade to VMWare Workstation 8.0

    Hello

After the update to VMWare Workstation 8.0 my Ubuntu 11.04 comments system (which worked very well with Workstation 7) behaves very slow sometimes.

Slowly I want to say first that it is very laggy when I scroll conent inside windows, and also when I move windows.

And with sometimes I want to say that this is not always the case. Sometimes, everything works fine for 1 or 2 hours and she begins and, sometimes, that's the problem immediately after starting Ubuntu.

The problem occurs when restart Ubuntu does not help. But what is stopping Ubuntu and also restart VMWare Workstation on the host (in my case Windows 7) completely. When I do this and I'm lucky everything seems normal again for a while (1 or 2 hours). After that starts all over again.

VMWare Tools is installed and the comments system has more then enough resources. I also improved the virtuale image to the latest version so that the new features in Workstation 8.0 are available.

I first thought that maybe it's a RAM problem but the system begins to lag when there is still 1 GB + RAM available and 0.0% swap used.

Any ideas what I could do? This is quite annoying...

  • Windows 7 64 bit host works very slowly after discontinuation of VMWare Workstation

I am running 64 bit Windows 7 on a Dell laptop with an i7, 6 GB ram and VMWare Workstation 9 processor. Everything works well on the host and the VM, while the virtual machine is powered on but after the suspension of the virtual machine and station work out of the system host becomes very slow and applications become desensitized. This lasts for several minutes after the stoppage of work. In general, I have executed only a VM at a time, but even when I got a couple of them run both the host system and they are very sensitive. I started the task with great difficulty Manager when this occurs to see if I can see problems with the free time of processors and memory use, and everything seems fine. So far all my research turned discussions about this kind of problem during execution of the virtual machine so I am at a loss to know even where to go next to make this diagnosis.

    Kind regards

This is because windows is the collection of memory the vmware used in the system and marking of these blocks of memory piece by piece as 'free '. If you shutted down of the virtual machine (not paused) then the memory can be returned to the system immediately. I guess if it was caused by the Intel RST driver because I noticed about there is also no question AMD computer used by my colleague.

Someone has something to boot the ESX 3.5 faster VM on VMware Workstation 6.5 all parameters in VMX file?  It seems too slow when start with 2048 MB of RAM for each created virtual computer.  I took about 30 minutes is this normal?

I also have one of this type of gear and it works very well and kicked around max 2-3 minutes.  You can check your settings and creation:

    1. create the new virtual machine with WS 6.5 mode and choose the option to create the virtual disk now so it can speed up your performance bit.

    2. remove the disk, sound, USB devices

    3. modify the "processor" just for VT VT/AMD Intel instead of two EPT and it give '2 vCPU' as well.

    4. close WS 6.5 and edit the .vmx file and place the monitor entry door back to "true", as shown above

    5. make sure that you have 'two vCPU' for both VMs.

6 image .iso 3.5 mount ESX of ROM and make installation took about 5 minutes to fill very quickly if you gave him 2-4 GB of ram.

    7. If not work try combination of "MMU" for hardware/software see if it works except that it must work.  Just check VT as well enable on BIOS.

Let us know what your results are like.

  • Very slow network with 10 Workstation and Windows 8 / 8.1 Windows

    Hello

I come to you because I have a problem with the network with 10 Workstation and Windows 8 / 8.1

In fact, if I copy files from or to a virtual machine with my host of Windows 8 by sharing Windows (SMB / CIFS), it is very very slow and unusable.

Example: My host is a Windows 8 x 64 and Windows 8 x 64 host: transfer speed is about 100 or 200 KB/s and often 0 KB/s (transfer seems to be paused).

With a guest Windows 8.1, same problem.

After many tests, I also tried with Windows PE 5 (same kernel as Windows 8.1): same problem, unusable.

But, miracle, if I use "Utility MSI - X OFF" Intel, I reboot and the problem disappears.

Someone in this community, said that it have the same problem and a workaround solution was not to use Intel e1000e but e1000 then: I must admit, it works.

With e1000, speed is around 30 to 60 MB/s and stable.

But, by default, 10 Workstation e1000e value when I create a new VM Windows 8.1, so it's a problem... Do not manually change for each new virtual machine and explain this to my students.

  • Very general question VMWare Workstation

    Hi all

So I have a very general question of VMWare Workstation.  Here's the context: I am with a very small company and we do desktop for windows software.  My development computer running Windows7, and I have an XP Virtual Machine to the test on this platform.

However, I would like to test the deployment and operation of my software on different versions of Windows 7, Vista, XP, etc.  However, our society cannot afford to spend $1000 on all versions of Windows, we can find.

Are there operating system free everywhere (which is legal) images that are intended to be used by developers?  Or, you must purchase a full license for all of these operating systems, just to do a little testing?  How do you all your images of BONES?

I know that this is a very general question (and not technology), but I would appreciate any input all have just general experience.

    Thank you!

MS offers subscriptions MSDN and Technet, containing all kinds of licenses for the use of test and development - according to the level.

  • Very slow speeds - Workstation 8.0.2 suspend

I don't know if it something that I did, or the recent update of the workstation, but it is now still holding to suspend my (fairly large) guests. A guest of Vista is by far the most powerful, although a small enough guest of Windows 8 is also very slow.

All my guests are split into 2 GB sizes and all have recently been "shrunk"---(erreur?). All are run under a Windows 7 host.

Does anyone have advice to try to improve performance short dating back to 7 Workstation?

    > All what you have tried so far work?
    Hi Dave
I had the same problems with suspend time WS 8 and 9.
The only thing that has really worked to change my habbit use suspend rather than turned off when done with a virtual machine.

With 9 WS, I expected that suspend one of my typical virtual machines may mean that the host can (often) to do nothing other than just suspension than a VM for a time up to 30 minutes or even an hour complete (often enough to see!)
I tried everything I could think off, but nothing is really - I have never used WS so rarely that this version 9.

I run 10 now and downtime are close to what we were used with 6.5 or 7

If these problems seem to be fixed in WS 10 - at least for me.
But before you change - control because WS 10 different problems

  • VMWare 2.0.4 very slow

    Hello

I have VMWare 2.0.4 and it is very slow.  It barely moves, and I don't know why.  I run on a ModBook with Leopard.  In VMWare, I'm on Windows XP pro 64-bit.  I have 4 GB of ram.  The settings for the hard disk is divided into 2 GB files.  VMWare settings - the size of my disk said it has 205 GB, but it's not really playing at VMWare.  Utility of the disk space of the ModBook indicates space drive total is 297,8 Go and the available space is 45.5 GB.

I don't know if I have to upgrade to the latest VMWare 2.0.6 might help or not.  Don't know what to do.  Thanks in advance for any help.

    Thank you

    Nancy

    Hey Nancy,.

The upgrade can always help, but in your case, I would look at how you have configured your virtual computer. You say you have 4 GB of RAM, how much have you allocated this for Windows? Also, how many processors have you declared your VM can use and how many are in your modbook?

You can determine the information for the virtual machine in the Panel settings for the virtual machine.

    Hi LucD,

    I've found a workaround:

When I run the import-PSSnapin I noticed (with wireshark) a lot of traffic failed to WAN addresses, so I set myself, in Internet Options a false proxy (127.0.0.1), excluding the proxy DNS of my domain active directory name (so I can connect to the virtual center without going through the wrong proxy)

Now is the time of execution:

So far, none of the solutions worked. I turned off "Large Send Offload" on each adapter that I could find on the host and the guest. Nothing. Restore these settings in any combination with other out does not work either. I edited the .vmx file and replace by vmxnet3 occurrences, and that no longer works. So far nothing I've tried has worked. I disabled all firewall and antivirus. Still nothing. When I run Guest OS Windows Network Diagnostics, I get the "your modem broadband has connectivity problems." However, I know that this is not the case. I also used the "Virtual Network Editor" to force the bridge connection to select the correct network card (in my case, it's the Intel Centrino Wireless - N 1030 wireless card), but still no luck. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Freezing of construction-2496824 VMWare Workstation 11.1.0

    Hello

I have a Windows 7 x 64 using Workstation 11.1.0 host (assessment of the trial).  I have a Windows 8.1 Pro x 64 running virtual machine.  It is the only virtual machine running.  A few minutes after starting the virtual machine, the virtual machine and the Workstation locks.

I do Ctrl + Alt + Delete and open the host Task Manager.  VMware.exe is always 25% of the CPU (I have a Core i7-4600U, so there are 4 cores with hypertheads).  VMware - vmx.exe CPU usuage varies.  My only option is to kill the process vmware.exe.  Then, the host runs normally.  To run the windows 8.1 host once again, I have to restart the computer, as it says the prompt is used.

When the computer restarts normally that's fine.  But this time he started running slow after a minute.  I opened the windows Task Manager.  Once it is open (after 10 minutes) I found that the CPU utilization was only 1% or more.  After 10 or 15 minutes of looking around, I started to kill the VMware processes.  After that I took some to the host ran normally.  It's working normally now.

The issue of freezing happened 4 or 5 times in two or three days.  When I kill computer vmware.exe always goes back to normal.

I did a few things like proactive:

    (1) add folder VM to the exclusion list antivirus, windows search, exclusion of our backup software list exclusion list.

    (2) remove the floppy and CD drive from the list of virtual machine hardware.  I read that could cause a hang upwards.

The event log does not contain something interesting.   I have attached all newspapers of vmware, I have for the machine virtual windows 8.1.

Any suggestions on what I can do next to try to solve this further?

The host is not lock it just the vmware workstation app.  I wanted to clarify that.

Other than the VM Pro 8.1 Windows only other VM I have is Windows XP Mode.  I started the XP Mode VM and it has always worked very well after having worked in the virtual machine for an hour.  I then restarted the VM of Windows 8.1 and three minutes later, he locked and workstation.  I see two vmware - vmx.exe treated one to 25% CPU usage in Task Manager (I presume VM Windows 8.1) and the other with barley any use of CPU (likey XP Mode).  Vmware.exe also has 25% CPU usage as before.

I'm in the resource monitor and to suspend the process vmware - vmx.exe which uses 25% cpu and now a workstation and the XP Mode VM work properly.  I then clicked on 'stop' the machine virtual windows 8.1 and has resumed the vmx process.  VM stop the 8.1 Windows workstation with success.  Workstation and the XP Mode VM still work normally.

So certainly issue between the workstation and the machine virtual windows 8.1 but I am not a guru vm or work station, so I can't determine what is the question.

    Edit

Repeat the question.  Is a wait analyze on vmware.exe chain in resource monitored and must wait on himself: "one or more threads to vmware.exe wait to finish i/o network." and "vmware.exe PID XXXX 6208" Thread.  So some kind of blocking of the thread?  When I suspend the vmware - vmx.exe running to my VM of Windows 8.1 then the vmware.exe CPU usage goes to 0%. But the wait vmware.exe watch chain still he waits on itself with the same message as above.  I then return to the vmware-vmx process and the CPU goes up to 25%.

I can fix things without killing the process vmware or vmx suspend windows 8.1 vmx process, use windows 7 taskbar live preview for click shutdown (square button) and then resume the vmx process.  At that point the 8.1 windows vm shutsdown immediately and the workstation (with the xp mode vm) is operating normally.

He has worked to find a few days but starting to give me this problem.

    Edit2

OK problem solved I think.  Our IT technician installed Malwarebytes Anti-malware over another anti-virus/anti-malware program.   Which was causing the computer to 'lock' (run slow but cpu was near 0% so desire ' cpu loading) during start, sounds a different problem than what I saw, but it may affect both workstation.  Also my VMs used NAT so I tried to switch to bridged and disabled the NAT and DHCP service.  Featured two fewer services to run.  Don't know which of those (if any) was causing the problem, but after those changes it works (for the most part very well).
