Remember to make changes to the computer before this problem?

Step 1: Check if the Volume icon is hidden

(a) right click on the taskbar > Hit properties > select Notification area tab

(b) under the system icons > Select volume (put a check mark against) checkbox

(c) click on apply and ok

Check whether the problem is resolved

    Hello

The sound card is recognized correctly in the Device Manager?
This sounds to me like an audio driver problem.

Try to remove the sound card in Device Manager and reboot the device.
Wait for the windows operating system has recognized the sound card again and try again.

If this will not help-> reinstall the audio driver.

    Hello

Have you checked the settings in the taskbar and Start Menu Properties?
There should be a tab named Notification area.

In this tab, you find an option; Hide inactive icons.
You can turn off (disable) this device or you can customize it.
In addition, you can choose which icons should be available and shows even the Hide inactive icons option would be activated.

In some cases, these options may be grayed out
In this case, you will need to find a registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion \TrayNotify

and here you have to delete the keys: + IconStreams + and + PastIconStream +.

  • Volume control icon has disappeared from the notification area and unable to change.

Original title: missing Volume control on the speaker/icon

My volume control icon disappeared from my office. On my notification area icons > system icons, the volume icon is set to 'off' and grayed out so I can't change it. I did NOT choose this option. It just happened when I turned on my computer this morning and had no sound and no "speaker" icon appearing in my bar tasks, like she normally does.  In addition, my notifications area icons is set to DISPLAY the volume control on the taskbar, but it does not show.  Restarting my computer did not help.  What can I do to get this to redisplay the taskbar? Fortunately, I can always manually volume by going to control panel, sounds, speakers, level and make it work, but it's too long. I need to be able to turn the volume on and off quickly.  I have Windows 7 Home Premium. Thanks for any help that can be given.

Thank you very much for your answer!

The answers to your three questions are No, Yes, and No. miraculously, when I turned on my computer this morning, the icon is back!  I'm sorry that you have to spend so much time explaining what to do, but at least I'll have your answer to see if it never happens again, and maybe it can help someone else.  I doubt I'm the only person never to happen.  Once again, thank you!

Thanks for your help.  I need the volume for my school work.

The following fix it try: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945011

  • Cannot place the Volume icon in the taskbar

My desktop (Windows XP Home Edition, SP3) PC has problems with sound:

The "Sound and Audio Devices Properties" window has 2 options in the box "Device volume" (in the middle):

    (1) 'Mute'.

It works OK - I can check this option and sound is cut off, as required.

    (2) "volume icon to Place in the taskbar"

I can't check this option to access the 'Advanced Options' button (bottom-right) and set other options of volume for 2 rear speakers (only 2 front speakers are currently operating).

If I check this option, it fails with this MESSAGE of ERROR:

"Windows cannot display the control volume on the taskbar because the Volume control program has not been installed. To install it use Add/Remove programs in Control Panel. »

I have NOT removed / deleted / Uninstall audio files, programs, etc., so I don't know how sound problems have been affected on my PC.

Of course, I can't start the Volume control program, and I can't adjust any volume and sound on my PC settings. The volume icon is not displayed in the tray (taskbar, far right). Try to add the icon for the volume control for this notification area will fail with the above ERROR MESSAGE.

I do not have the installation diskettes, so it is possible to download all the relevant sound files / applications directly and solve this problem (missing volume control program)? All the problems of sound worked beautifully until this volume control program "disappeared."

Moreover, are these stored audio files as backups somewhere on my PC (for example some partition memory?), so I can put it directly in the Windows/Program files?

Troubleshooting guides suggest lack file the SNDVOL32. EXE, but c:\windows\system32\dllcache fact containing SNDVOL32. EXE - of course, this file is not missing, but may be damaged / corrupted, so unusable and inaccessible, as if not found (MESSAGE of ERROR above).

    Please notify. Thank you kindly.

The dllcache folder is where XP guard backup copies of important files and does not come into the game normally and XP will be running fine without this folder (but you don't want to delete it).

If one 3498 files that Windows file protection is missing, PAM retrieves the backup copy in the dllcache folder quickly and silently, replace the missing file.

When you use certain features sounds and Audio devices if you see a message like this:

Windows cannot display the control of volume on the taskbar because the Volume control program has not been installed. To install it use Add/Remove programs in Control Panel.

    Or this:

Windows cannot execute SndVol32.exe, use Add/Remove Programs Control Panel to install.

Looks like thesystem32\sndvol32.exe file c:\windows\ is missing.

As the sndvol32.exe is one of 3498 Windows File Protection files handles, should never be missing.  To be absent would require an extra effort.  If it happens never missing in the system32 folder, WFP will be want to quickly and quietly replace it if he can.

This may occur if your antivirus/antimalware application unspecified thinks the file is suspicious and quarantines (effectively delete) the file.  You can replace the missing file with a backup copy of the file that is in another folder on your system (if you can find one.)  Sometimes even the backup copy is quarantined (effectively removed)

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

Assuming that Windows is installed on your C drive...

We know that XP retains backups of critical system files in the following folder:

    c:\Windows\System32\dllcache

Using the Explorer, search for or navigate to the following folder:

    c:\Windows\System32\dllcache

Locate the sndvol32.exe file, right-click, choose copy or press Ctrl-C (it copies the file to the Windows Clipboard).

If your Solution Explorer settings are not set to display file extensions, you can only see a file named "sndvol32" which has an icon that looks like to the volume control slider (this is the file you need) or adjust the settings of the browser under Tools, Folder Options, view and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" you can see the file extensions.  You can check that box again when you are finished, if that is your desire.

If the file is missing in the dllcache folder, look for a copy of the file in this folder (you maybe not this file):

    c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386

After copying the file, navigate to the following folder:

    c:\Windows\System32

Right-click on an empty area in the c:\windows\system32 folder display window and select Paste (Ctrl + V) to paste into the missing file where it belongs.

Answered in the affirmative if invited to replace the existing file and then you should see a message that 1 file (s) has been copied.

Now try your features sounds and Audio devices.

If you can't find the file on your system, there is one on my SkyDrive and you can download it.
