Portege M600 - Volume icon has a red cross on it

Hi all

I need help to fix my laptop card. My laptop (TOSHIBA M600 on windows vista) basic as its original operating system works perfectly for the last 3 years. About 3 weeks ago the the volume icon in the lower right corner of the screen had a red cross on it. I am no longer able to listen to the lectures online, music, videos, etc. I opened the Device Manager and found no distinction between the like audio, video and game controllers. This happened after my friend installed a fake windows 7. Since then, I decided to buy and re-installed a professional legal window 7, but the problem persists. The volume at the bottom of the screen icon still has a red x on it.

Kind people out there please help me... i'm a student and can't afford it which will be fixed by these expensive computer genius in the computer store. Also... If please use simple English lay when you give instructions or help.

Thank you very much in advance
Noelu

Hey Buddy,

Usually this mode Red Cross that there is no audio driver not installed or pilot is confusing until you already tried reinstalling the audio driver?

What sound card you have installed?
Normally, you can get all the drivers on the official website of Toshiba, but for an older model like yours, I guess to check the other pages. For example, if you have a sound card Realtek, check the Realtek page directly: www.realtek.com

  • My internet works, but the signal icon has a red x with no bar?

Internet works as usual and has a connection, but this cross is still there I just reset and grows poorly does not have problem found... looking online it's drivers? but people have had problems to login again once the uninstallation of a pilot. I did nothing else or nothing installed nine minutes late was next to the Red Cross... help as its starts to be annoying. I took some screenshots of it 2 :) Thank you

This indicates that your firewall such as Norton or McAffee is too strong and blocking the connection detection system.  Basically, the icon he's trying to ping on several sites (sites of Microsoft) to see whether or not a connection works and then displays the corresponding icon.  If the connection cannot ping this test site, then he puts the X icon, even if the connection is otherwise working.

You can ignore it, or solve problems to get rid of other programs such as Norton or McAffee.

    Hello

The sound card is recognized correctly in the Device Manager?
This sounds to me like an audio driver problem.

Try to remove the sound card in Device Manager and reboot the device.
Wait for the windows operating system has recognized the sound card again and try again.

If this will not help-> reinstall the audio driver.

    In most cases, it helps...

  • RED CROSS ON NETWORK CONNECTION SYMBOL

even though I am connected to my modem network connection symbol has a red cross on it. How should I set it... ??

    Hello
Thank you for writing to Microsoft Communities.

I understand how it could be frustrating when things do not work as expected. Please, I beg you, don't worry I'll try my best to resolve the issue.

Until we start troubleshooting on this issue please provides us with additional information by answering a few questions below, this will help us better solutions to the problems.

    1. what type of connection you are using? Is - this wired / wireless?
    2. don't you make changes to the computer before the show?

    Method 1
Run the network troubleshooter to diagnose and repair any problem related to your network. The below mentioned link to get the access procedure:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/using-the-network-troubleshooter-in-Windows-7

    Method 2

Temporarily disable the security software and check if it helps.
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/disable-antivirus-software
Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Method 3
Remove all the wireless networks, listed in the network and sharing Center.
    a. click Start and select Control Panel.
    b. open the network and sharing Center.
    c. click manage wireless networks.
    d. remove all wireless network listed in this list.
    e. restart computer.
Select your wireless network and connect (if course, enter your password). Check if you see yellow color exclamation on Wi - Fi bar resistance.

For a complete list of the steps to try, see the tutorial wired and wireless on this page.

    4. Click on reset printing system.

Now, if you removed the USB cable, plug it. Otherwise:

    1. Click on the button "+" at the bottom left.
    2. Select your printer from the list.
    3. Click the check box next to and select your printer from the list.

  • Satellite L300 Wireless icon has the Cross Red but connected - SOLUTION

    Satellite L300. Home Premium Windows 7 32.

Updated the wireless driver Atheros to the download area of Toshiba (the newest driver released on 11/27/11). After the reboot, the icon in the notification area wireless shows with red cross through it even if it is connected. Not a big deal but annoying.

    Corrected by:
(Note: you must take note of your routers WEP key before doing this and if SSID is not it broadcasts)

    1. go on the network and sharing Center
    2. click on manage networks wireless on the left-hand menu
    3. highlight your connection and remove it.
    4. stop and restart the network connections service (to go to the Services console right-click on computer in the start menu and click on manage.) Expand Services and Applications, click Services).
    5. reconnect to your network by choosing from the list of available and entering the WEP key (or use him manually add... option if you must enter the SSID).
    6. If still the same then restart and reconnect to your network.

    Worked for me.

Alternatively you can try of course to roll back to the old driver.

Thank you much for sharing this info with us!

  • Volume shortcut icon has disappeared from the Vista tray

Volume shortcut icon has disappeared from my status bar at the bottom of the screen... How do I get it back?
Seems silly, but I can't find it!

    Hello

Have you checked the settings in the taskbar and Start Menu Properties?
There should be a tab named Notification area.

In this tab, you find an option; Hide inactive icons.
You can turn off (disable) this device or you can customize it.
In addition, you can choose which icons should be available and shows even the Hide inactive icons option would be activated.

In some cases, these options may be grayed out
In this case, you will need to find a registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion \TrayNotify

and here you have to delete the keys: + IconStreams + and + PastIconStream +.
