  • How to use Windows NT Backup - Restore

    Hello
I followed the instructions from Microsoft to download Windows NT Backup - Restore and have some to trun on removable storage management.

But still no idea of how to make to restore .bkf files from my external hard drive to my laptop that is running Windows Vista. I created these Windows XP by using the backup and restore utility.

When I go to the "backup and Restore Center" in Vista, it still does not recognize these backup files. And I can't open them directly by going into the computer, then in the external drive and try to open the file.

Are you clicking on the program that you downloaded?  I guess you need to run this program rather than anything to do with Vista backup and restore.

    Hello CasPhillips,

Try to use Task Scheduler to schedule two separate backups.

    Hello

To be honest, your ad is a little hard to understand and I don t know what you mean exactly.

The built-in backup tool of XP can save all the directories you want if you choose advanced options. But this tool isn't so comfortable; You can access the data on a running system. More comfortable are Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image in my opinion.

You can upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. That's why you need to do a clean install and therefore you don't need a backup.
Just copy your important files like photos, music, etc. on an external HARD drive. All that s! After installing Windows 7, you can copy on the laptop.

    Hello Huaraz,

Is this greater disk and the only one that have made us or are there other larger readers as well?

In the affirmative. then, it might be something with the drive.

We might want to run chkdsk on it:

    1. Press the Windows key and press R.
    2. Type CMD.
    3. Right click on CMD. EXE EXE in the search box, and then select run as administrator.
    4. At the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:

      CHKDSK : / f

where = the drive letter for the plu player.

    5. Type EXIT and press ENTER.

  • Backup or restore page is empty

OK, Win7 Ultimate here, I had been using backup utility windows to backup my drive C: (SSD 128Gig) and my data drive that is the d: drive on a third hard drive E:.  My full obtained E drive so I had to upgrade to a 2 TB drive, I have disabled the old backup, removed the old one, plugged the 2 new cases of tuberculosis, then set up backups again.  It seemed to start ok, but it never seemed to end.  I can tell the amount of used space on E that my backup is NOT complete.  This has been done a few weeks ago.  I go to control panel > system and security > backup and restores its just a completely blank page... I can't do anything on this subject.  I tried safe mode, but this page is not yet an option in safe mode apparently.  Read these forums I've seen other people with similar problems, a recommendation was to run SFC/scannow, that I did and he said "Protection of resources Windows not found any breach of integrity", which did not help.  At a loss now, what could I do to get my backups going again?

    Robbro,

I know it's 2 years later, but did you ever find the solution?

If this isn't the case, you can consult the Services. For some reason any having an image of the system and upgrade to the ultimate 7, WindowsBackup has been disabled in the Services and I turned my back to automatic and viola! All mixed in the restoration to the Panel and the empty backup window.

I ALMOST did the Windows recovery on this page-I'm glad I figured this out before all that Bologna!

  • Windows Backup & restore leaves gaps in the backup period date ranges

I noticed that backup & restore leaves gaps in the date ranges displayed on the screen of backup periods under the function to manage the space.  This means that files change during the interval periods have not been saved?  For example, the screen shows currently backups and the following periods:

    Jan 26: 12-18 Mar, 12 GB 10.40

    Apr 04, 12-13 Apr, 12 GB 19.62

    27 April, 12-27 Apr, 12 GB 05.16

    May 06,12 - May 06,12 02.41 GB

    May 27.12 - 17 Jun, 12 GB 03.41

What is the importance of gaps?

How can I tell that B & R is fully backup all files that changed since the last backup run?

How can I varify the 1st backup is a backup full?

How can I varify that the system image backup is up-to-date?

I save approximately once a week to a USB external hard drive. I use options "Include a system image" and "Let me choose" to select the files and have selected the option 'keep only the last frame system & minimize the space used '.

    Hello

Backups are created in sets called backup periods. To maximize your disk space, Windows backup backup all folders selected, the first time it's run and then it only backs up files that are new or have been modified since the last backup was made. Periodically, Windows creates a new, full backup. Each full backup is called in a backup. When you view your backups of files, you can see all the backup periods with date ranges. If you decide to delete backups of files, you should always keep the most recent backup of the file.

  • Windows 7 backup works, but does not appear in the backup and restore control panel

I have Windows 7 Pro and have had a running backup on a network drive for a couple of years now.  So far it has worked well.

Recently, my wife asked me to postpone this off-peak hours and I went directly to the Task Scheduler and update annex it.  I also had to modify the scheduled task to wake up my laptop computer to perform the backup.
Now, after making these changes, I can see the event log that the backup started at time exact (01:00) he succeeded 30 minutes later.  I can also see on my network drive that it saved at the right time and the registry keys indicate the location of the network right.  However, when I go in the backup and restore control panel, he told me to "backup Windows has not been setup" (which previously he would show me the network location and the last backup time and the other at the request of autonomy.)
I know that backups are still viable can I do a restore to the correct network location and properly, it shows me that I have backups on this drive.  So, why the backup and restore screen is now showing me that no backup copy has been put up any ideas?
I'm a little worried that this change to the schedule has whacked a key somewhere that is using the backup and restore screen and finally the backups will fail and I don't notice unless I am constantly reviewing the event logs (which, for domestic use, isn't it convenient for me).

  • Cannot install windows updates and updates history screen is empty.

I can't install the windows updates. I have Windows Vista Home Premium. My automatic update is running... I studied and thought that the problem was with some service pack 2 I had to install - I did and nothing helped. My windows update history page is completley empty and Iwonder why. Also, I now can't seem to connect my Nokia phone to my computer as he finds the right driver online, but then it cannot install it. Can someone tell me what on Earth is cause of these problems. Thank you

The computer had only preinstalled Norton or McAfee, but I've since deleted these programs because I found them to be boring...

A properly installed, fully functional anti-virus application should never be boring. Although that pretty much excludes from the application of all the Norton and McAfee in my humble OPINION, there are others available.

  • System restore calendar is empty, cannot set new points and cannot use Windows help.

Original title: registry problem affecting system restore etc.

The system restore calendar is empty, I can't put new points, and I can't use Windows help because I can not type in the dialog box. If the problem is described in the doc #313853, the solution he proposed did not. Defeating my cleanups registry also seems not to help. Any suggestions?

To all of you who have tried to help me with this problem, I recently came across a solution - I had to reinstall Internet Explorer, which I think had been compromised by my registry cleaner. I never use, so it didn't occur to me that there is something wrong with it. But that seems to have fixed all the problems.

    Hi Marty,

Windows Vista backup files are in. Disc format hard virtual which is only supported in Vista. You would have to restore them on a computer that is running Windows Vista and then copy the contents of the Windows XP computer.

I did a full backup of my system Windows XP, including MS Office and other software. I upgraded the system to Windows Vista. Can I restore the backup XP MS Office and other software on Vista?  I installed backup-restore of Windows NT on Vista and open the backup file, selected the folders I wanted to restore and begun to restore. The documents have been restored correctly but SW such as the Office was not. SW files have been restored, but they are not "installed" i.e. do not work, I think it's obvious, but I don't know how to install.

In this case, you must reinstall the programs, as has already advised it.

"If you did a clean install, it's different.

Programs need to be reinstalled from the original media (CD, DVD, etc.). »

You can not copy programs installed from another hard drive or a backup.

The only way that works is if it was a picture of complete backup of XP from the operating system installed and you need to reinstall the full XP Image for the program to work again in this OS XP...

    See you soon.
