NAS200 JBOD/LVM scandisk fails

Hello

as I set up my new NAS200, using disks 2x1To as a disc in JBOD mode, scandisk fails every time. Newspaper accessible via the administrative Web interface, a scandisk boot process leads to the entrance of the newspaper " LVM: ' (i.e. no results are saved!)" or "": scandisk failed '. " I use the latest firmware version 3.4R79.

To try to solve this problem, I tried the following two:

* I changed the firmware JAC4, connected via SSH and descended from xfs_repair, with the result of the SIN all suspended after xfs_repair for maybe 15 minutes running, but before he finished (after agno2).

* I have detached the two discs of the NAS, attached to a PC, started using Knoppix 6.2 and made xfs_repair on the logical volume with no problems (in 40 seconds). I have attached the two drives on the NAS again, but still no scandisk initiated through the administration Web interface!

What - what, there is a problem with the firmware?

Are there other balls to distinguish who said to me why scandisk fails?

Will I go back to JAC4 and run scandisk via SSH using different commands?

I would like to regain my confidence to the NAS200...

Welcome,

Martin

However, when I try to test on the NAS via SSH and xfs_repair, the process fails. So far, I thought that the process crashes, but now when I try again, it seems that, indeed, the xfs_process is killed by the operating system:

The program can be killed by oom_killer the kernel if it allocates too much memory too quickly. If you had a serial port on the console, you would be able to see. Another way to see if this happens is to start /etc/rc.syslog (she normally doesn't start) and enter the command "tail-f var &" so that syslog messages are dumped to your ssh session where they occur. Don't forget to disable syslog again by entering "killall syslogd, klogd" and remove var because they eat RAM too!

The time-out that I referred to has a possible timeout the web GUI can be used when it is waiting for the xfs_repair program. Of course, if you start the command line xfs_repair this applies to you.

mbern wrote: too bad that they tested it with 750Go only, I wan't able to find a good official statement (on the Web page, in the manual). But I remember my dealer claimed the support of 1 TB, otherwise I would not have bought the NAS with two 1 TB drives. I also used the NAS in Raid 1 with drives of 1 TB without worries as above.

The manual and the site doesn't mention that they have tested with 750 GB drives, they just mention (mentioned?) that drives up to 750 GB are supported. I guess they have tested with larger disks as possible...

I use a drive 1 TB and never had no problem, theoretically there could be a problem if you install a disk that is longer than 2 TB (tera-byte binary) because this corresponds to the maximum value that can be managed by access 48-bit LBA. Most likely, the readers with a capacity of 2.5 (decimal) to claim are the first readers who won't be able to use 2 (binary) TB because of this problem. I have not seen all reports of anyone using the latter on a NAS200 yet.

  • NAS200 Raid1 - disk 2 has failed, cannot rebuild

When the failed drive, the green light for the first disc was there but not for disc 2.

By going to the web server the States said that disk 2 was not inserted (and this is obviously false).

There was a lot of information on the problem when I Googled it but nothing seems to work.

    Configuration:

    • NAS200 in Raid1
    • 2 identical drives: Western Digital 500 GB (WD5000AAKS)

    I tried:

    • Do a manual backup using linux and mdadm function to mount the drive. Result: Cannot ride because he can't find the superblock.
    • Using the command mdadm - review. Result: «State: clean "," devices Failed: 0 ", etc (nothing seems bad).»

  • NAS200 drive failure

I have a couple of configuration NAS200 do RAID1 on the internal disks. On a single unit, I was checking the status on the WEB Interface and it shows "Disk 2 - Failed" on the status screen. However if I check the drive using SMART Disk utility screen it says it's OK, and when I run Scandisk on the RAID logs show "RAID 1: Scandisk finishes, no error found.". The lights of disc at the front of the case also indicate that everything is OK. Is OK disc 2? If so how can I get rid of the message failed in the status?

    Hello

If you are convinced that there is no problem with your 2nd drive then you can try to do these steps.

    1. turn off the NAS.

    2. unplug the readers on during seconds then reconnect.

3 rotate on the NAS and watch the lights on the device until it stabilize

    4. try to access the user interface of the NAS200 again and check the status of the two drives.

Let us know what happens then.

  • NAS200 telnet? fsck? Lost + found? Help me please.

    Hello world.

I NEED to access the NAS200 drives.

Somehow my file system was broken.

Yesterday I was copying some files on the device (attached to a dedicated UPS, so no power failure when writing) during the copy (it was long) I tried to delete some files in a different folder.

The player responded: removal of the files had a life (even if the copy is complete) it took about 40 seconds to delete each file...

So I decided to cancel the operation and restart the device.

I pressed the power button, I heard the stop sound and turns off after a while.

I turned on it once, it happened as usually: leds (power - activity - disk1 and disk2), beeps...

Then I tried to access my files, but vista gave me a network share could not be found.

First of all, I ping the device, he was there.

Then I have connected to the web management, made a successful logon, checked state.

All right: two recognized discs. Chip Disk1: OK, chip Disk2logical disk K 0 (raid 0): ok.

Total space 1, 5 to, free space 200 GB.

I tried with the web service "access to my files"... and then, I throw a shout!

I got an error, something like 'Path of ACCESS not FOUND' (previously I had two /DISK and /PUBLIC_DISK actions)

Then I tried again with FTP (same error)

Then I launched "Scandisk" (still within the management interface) in the newspaper I see "scandisk has failed."

I tried to launch it again and after one hour, the unit was not responding.

Is there a way to access the ext3 FS without the web interface?

    How can I make fschk?

I need to recover the data

I have lots of photos & videos of my babies when they are born, working documents, working source code

    Any tips?

    What can I do?

(Material) discs seem to be ok.

The raid goes to the top.

The file system appears to be damaged but not bad (or I don't know disk space / free)...

If the disk file system are not accessible through NAS200 can I connect the disks in a PC with linux and a raid controller? Or is the only raid array works with the controller in NAS200?

    Please help me.

    Thank you in advance.

The RAID is a software RAID using mdadm. If you have a Linux system, it should be easy to mount hard drives SATA or eSATA or (at most) a USB to SATA converter. If you define for the journaled file system, the NAS200 uses XFS. It uses ext2 for not journaled.

If you connect the disks on a Linux machine, you will find 3 partitions on each disk: (1) the data partition, (2) a configuration partition, and (3) a swap partition. I do not recommend making any changes to the configuration partition unless you know what you're doing.

Connect the drive on a Linux system is going to allow you to recover things MUCH faster that to do with the NAS200 (who is actually a PC 133 headless of 486 MHz which feels like it is clocked at 100 MHz).

If you insist to leave readers in the NAS and you wish to SSH or Telnet access, you can install my firmware . It will not affect your configuration or your hard drives, it will always be like the Linksys firmware (I only added additional features and didn't touch any of the Linksys stuff) and you can easily put the original firmware if you don't like it or don't need more.

There is no telnet or SSH access in the default firmware.

    Hello

The fact is that you have laptop for 10 years and I really wonder if anyone here has any experience with this good old classic.
If you are unable to enter BIOS, the situation is quite serious. You may have Floppy drive for this laptop?

  • JBOD Qosmio G20 - could not initialize the disk of 320 GB - 1RAID-0

    Hello, comrades Toshiba users,
at first, I apologize if this question has already been answered, but I did not find the answer to my problem.

One of my colleagues has a Toshiba Qosmio G20 with two 80 GB drives. Big 17-inch "surf-board-sized" computers laptops are not my cup of tea, but the Qosmio him quite well served.
We tried to upgrade the two hard drives of aging in his laptop. With considerable experience in replacing the readers of the laptop, I didn't expect no particular surprise, but I was wrong.

We tried to replace the original disks
Bay 1: 80 GB Fujitsu drive, System
2: 80 GB Fujitsu drive, data, RAID off the coast of the Bay

    with the new
Bay 1: 320 GB WD Scorpio
WD Scorpio 2: 320 GB drive Bay.

The BIOS of the G20 is v1.30, the latest version. It recognizes new readers-, but one of the new marking as 1RAID-0 disks fails. After trying to "initialize" the 320 GB drive in bay 1 as 1RAID-0, on the third page of the G20 of BIOS, there is a disk activity, but the drive remains in JBOD mode.

Unable to mark the drive of 320 GB 1RAID-0, I am unable to use the 320 GB drive as a system disk.

If the original system drive is cloned on a new 320 GB drive, that it does not start. Starting XP * begins * but subsequently fails with STOP 0x7B - in other words, the infamous blue screen INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE when the Toshiba RAID driver is loaded during Windows startup.
Plain vanilla CD, of course with slipstreamed windows installation driver Toshiba, impossible rest. Installing Windows don't "see" drive in Bay 2.

When the drive system is put in the high Bay and G20 is started from it, Windows XP starts correctly. The drive in Bay 1 is accessable from Windows, however, remains offline in the RAID from Toshiba console. If the start player in Bay 2 is not an option, too.

A similar problem, where the owner could not install a system of 200 GB drive is described here
    Link: http://tinyurl.com/38wokw
The owner, however managed to install a 100 GB drive and we have resorted to 80 GB of disk as a system disk and the only player upgrade in Bay 2 to 320 GB.

I understand what happens when the disk is 'initialized' in the BIOS. Only brands of BIOS of Toshiba disk 1RAID-0, and it breaks down on 320 GB drive. I will refrain from expressing my opinion on this practice.

My question is - if it is possible, how * manually * mark the drive of 320 GB 1RAID-0?
Using a hex editor, dd or something similar is no problem. A partial answer would also know the disc more large size which * can * be marked with success under the name of 1RAID-0 at BIOS G20.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

I m not 100% sure, what could be wrong by presumably 320 HARD drive size might be too big!
How about the 100 GB or 120 GB hard drives?

I think you should consider it because usually most of the BIOS supports a HARD drive size limitation and therefore not all sizes are supported.

But note; using the configuration of 1RAID-0 (striping), met by the operating system size is twice more only if the smaller of the two HARD drives in RAID configuration. Using RAID-0, all data on both disks will be lost, even if it is training of two disks fails.

  • Can no longer access my Scandisk Cruzer Blade USB 4GByte

My Dell PC (XP SP3 operating system) still recognizes my Scandisk Cruzer Blade USB 4GByte, but now you invite "the disk in drive G is not formatted. Want to format it now?

I suspect that the drive is full, as I planned to remove a few files for some time - but not got around him. The last time it worked, I copied a file from software on the drive for a colleague. He took the blade, copied the file and returned it to me.

Is it possible that I can "secure format" the drive without erasing the data on it or another method of recovery/restoration of the blade.

Tried to win 7 & XP - no joy. Colleague (System Administrator) used a recovery software but can't find anything.

Technical support of Scandisk which provided a link to the software recovery LC company went through. Recovery software demo download, but once again failed to find all the files. Talked to their technical support which provided another link for some more advanced software. Once again no file is found. Talked with them and now confirmed her drive is clean and empty - somehow?

Their Filerecover software checks the data in hexadecimal block - all zeros.

  • OK, whenever I restart my pc it go to blue screen and scandisk but when I got to defragment. It doesn't let me do? I scan the pc and found nothing wrong

What could do what I have to get a new pc. because I have no idea to fix any help?

There is no Scandisk in XP. Do you mean that whenever you start your computer running chkdsk? If so, then:

CHKDSK runs each time that you start your computer [Q316506] - http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316506

It would be also a good idea to test your hard drive. Test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility downloaded from site of the disc mftr. or use SeaTools for BACK of Seagate. You create a bootable CD with the files you download. You will need a third party burning software to do as the free ImgBurn, Nero or Roxio. Burn as an image, not in the form of data.

Boot with the CD that you have done and do a full test of the reader. The physical tests fail, replace it. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • NAS200 after power supply current

    Hi all

could you please confirm this behavior after a power failure:

-the Sin starts normally and for a few seconds I can access via the web. But if I try to force the closure, he answers me back is not possible due to the scandisk is underway

-After 2 minutes, where the green light turned on I see the two light of the two bays which lie on. The problem is that the I only have one disc inserted into the SIN!

-the system is not accessible. I read the manual it is normal when the sin is the scandisk. But it is not clear to me it does, because flashing power/ebaydisk1 noither.

    Any suggestion?

When the NAS200 sees that the disks were not closed properly, he made a blink of LEDs from disk at startup for you know that it is the cleaning of discs; they stop flashing when the cleaning operation is complete. If I understand correctly, this is not what you see: you see two disk lights on.

Normally you should never see both lights of disc on if only one drive is installed. Try unplugging the power supply and then restarting him. Maybe it was just a small problem and it runs very well this time.

If it's the same thing when restart you with the installed drive, try running it without disc and see if the lights are still to come. Both hard drive lights should turn off if no drive is installed. If they remain, you may have a hardware problem that causes the software hang (or perhaps to trigger a kernel panic).

If it starts fine without the disc, but both lights keep coming with a disc, there may be a problem that can be fixed by connecting the drive to a PC and booting with a CD of SystemRescueCD. You may need to ask someone who knows Linux to help you with that.

  • NAS 200 Failed Disk - using RAID1

    Hello

One of my two drives have failed in my NAS200.

The NAS 200 is configured as RAID1 and one of the original pair still works correctly. I need to swap the second disk with a new - how can I get this new second drive to work as a mirrored pair without reformatting the drive working?

    Appreciate any help.

    Adrian.

    FYI

    NAS 200

    2 x Western Digital WD2500JS - 250 GB drives

    RAID1

    Firmware 3.4R79

Turn off the NAS with the power button (it will beep when you press the button and it will turn off after a few seconds). Replace the bad drive by another which has at least the same size, and then turn the NAS.

On-board software will automatically rebuild your RAID. You will see some blinking lights while he does, and you should also be able to see in the web UI, it does this. Your data should be accessible during this period.

Rebuild the RAID takes a long time, probably more than a day depending on the size of your disk.

  • NAS200, UN-configure the public default drive

    Hello

I have a NAS200 with 2 drive public, configured by default.

I now want to configure more users and limit the use. But it seems that the Public record are always public and cannot configure the authorization it. I also have the latest firmware.

My question is if I can rename the/public folder to something else and then re - share with the same share call 'Public disc 1?

    Current configuration:

Disk1/public is shared as 'Public disk 1 '.

I want to share Disk1 as 'Temp', then rename the public folder and then delete the share and create a new one.

Is - is this posible? I lose data?

    Thank you very much

    Oliver

It is not possible to rename, delete the "DISK 1" and "PUBLIC DISK 1" actions (or the "DISK 2" and "PUBLIC 2" DISK sharing if you have two disks ").» You also you can not move the sites referring to these actions.

However, you can hide these actions of all users and create new actions that relate to any location on your disk (s). For example, you can create a user 'jac' and a 'jac' share and modify access rights so that the "jac" user doesn't have access to "DISK 1" or "DISK PUBLIC 1" but only in the directory "jac". "". " Whenever the "jac" user on the NAS, he sees only the directory "jac".

    IMPORTANT!

If your problem is that you're setting up of actions and not see them properly to your PC, it probably means that you are connected as a guest. Disable the "convert failed connections connections comments' (or completely disable comments connections) on the System Options page.

  • Random questions Nas200

Hello everyone let me give you some information first here.

The first nas200 I bought from the store sufferd a brainloss after bad flashing of the firmware and had to be returned to linksys for repair.  They instead sent me a referbished one which I was happy to get but have had another problem since.  The problem is that each so the right nas oftend stops responding at all. You cannot move see actions, you cannot access it through its configuration page, and when I walk the NAS there only a light which is intermidittly flashing if you press the power button does not start just powerdown cycle, he won't answer my only other option to unplug unit which I don't like, because this causes linux perform a scandisk on the ext2 partition.  I have checked the logs, but can't see all the events generated so I'm not sure the cause of this problem.  I see that the drive in the system become very hot and its possible its either stop because of tempreture or the kernel crashes.  I tried to reflash the system with the latest firmware, but that does not reslove the problem.  Im a bit to seen referring to the linksys to replace another.  Anyone has any ideas to why the right nas stops working even when its not used?

Hi all, I had a cluster of disc go bad in the middle of localspl.dll

I tried a lot of things, but first a little recap of my system and the problem.

    Win 7 Ultimate, OEM, 64-bit.

No new printer last week.  Impression was working fine last night.  This morning - print spooler does not work and system clearly having a problem.  A ran a ScanDisk with sector scan and repair verified time options.  Has detected an error in the middle of the above file.  Since then, I tried everything I can think of and some things I found on the internet.

    I tried:

Localspl.dll (via another system) in place of the copy of winsxs (found via search).  The same version and size.  There is no dllcache and if there is a similar animal on Win 7, I don't know about it.

    Before that, I tried SFC/scannow

    I dumpped everything spooler.

I tried the fix - sound, but I can't seem to find one that works on Win 7, 64 bit.

This utility doesn't help - can not even say the service failed in the middle of its operation.

I hate the idea that I'll have to reinstall scratch.

I can not yet do a upgrade in place due to the inability of stupid (shame of Microsoft) to do a upgrade in place of an OEM drive.  Come on, that disc might check to see if it was the same version and do - the code already exists - argh!
