Hello Experts,

Looking at the next thread, learned that Kerberos (kinit, klist, ktab) tools are not available in the JRE on Linux and Solaris environments...

not found in JRockit R28 kinit https://Community.Oracle.com/thread/2307987?tstart=0

Suite error is thrown on the Solaris operating system. Can someone guide me on the native tools of Kerberos for linux/Solaris OS

On Solaris you found "kinit" inside the 'kinit/usr/bin/kinit?

  • Kerberos authentication and use the KTPASS tool

    I work in support to a network analysis software company.  We have the ability to use Kerberos authentication for our product.  Recently, we found that when you generate the keytab file using ktpass on a Windows Server 2003 or 2008, it is a step backwards in the process.  Eventually do you run the ktpass twice to get the keytab file good.

    Our external authentication module is software that uses Kerberos authentication and then he puts it on a remote client computer to access our software. We configure our Kerberos application and then read from the file keytab generated on a Windows Server 2003 or 2008 domain controller by using Kerberos V5 found in the AD domain controllers.

    When you run the ktpass tool, you must submit the username and password to generate the keytab file.  When it is generated, there is a generated KVNO number / incremented in the keytab file.  But it writes the file first and then updates the KVNO + 1 number in the actual key stored in AD.  If your keytab file is always number 1 behind what is actually stored in AD!

    We can fix it by running ktpass once,

    Examine the properties for the KVNO number in the last keytab file

    Re-run the ktpass, but number KVNO + 1

    The keytab file is generated, AD wrote the new KVNO + 1 number in AD

    But now our keytab file matches KVNO number generated by AD

    We lose a step in the ktpass tool?

    is there a way to see what the current number of KVNO is set in AD

    We have tested extensively with Windows 2003 and Windows 2008 R2 domain controllers

    The guests were the two Windows 7 Prof 64 bit

    Was just curious if anyone has had this experience?

    Thanks in advance,

    Terry Ball

    Hello Terry,

    According to the description of the problem, it seems that you are working on Windows server 2003 and 2008. I would recommend posting your query on the Server Forums TechNet for Windows.

    TechNet is watched by other computing professionals who would be more likely to help you. Please check the below link which will redirect you to the appropriate forum.

  • How the news works of linux vmware-tools associated with the support of actions HGFS?

    Just to clarify, if it is possible to get from VMware Tools for Linux Guest users qualified/developer/maintainer.

    If memory serves me right, from 12 Workstation, VMware Tools for modified Linux related with the way it handles stocks HGFS.

    Installation of VMware tools on many Linux guests, I always see the same behavior.

    In some installations it build hgfs module, in others it seems fair to connect on vmhgfs-fuse executable. No module hgfs not charged in this case of the kernel then HGFS works as expected.

    Exactly how it works under the hood, how to install VMware Tools/config, can determine whether it is necessary to build the module or just run vmhgfs-fuse?

    Well, strange person, not even VMware guys come on this subject. IMHO is a really interesting thing, I almost always use shared folders between guests and hosts, it's so easy and simple WHEN IT WORKS.

    The fact that no-one comes on this thread, show what I think always: products like workstation are profoundly less used, average people IMHO use 30/40 per cent of the potential software.

    Then, with a few hours and a few Linux guests many kind in hand machines (work with tools in both modes, hgfs.ko or fuse), investigated and found how it works by myself.

    This is what I found.

    Recent versions of VMware Tools for Linux now seems to check the fuse package installed on guest system installed and when they found him, they try to use vmhgfs-fuse (formerly an Open-vm-tools executable) to mount hgfs actions without the need of the hgfs.ko module and so without needing to compile the module often broken kernel. For example, hgfs.ko thin build up to kernel branch 4.4 and it is broken again on 4.5.

    The script vmware-config - tools.pl also seems power - also when it detects the fuse package - properly configure autostart for hgfs share.

    That's all, and it's very useful for me. Hope it will be for others.

  • Is there a way via hyperic to monitor web servers for Solaris?

    Is there a way via hyperic to monitor web servers for Solaris? on my portal
    running web servers Sun there is no apache httpd process. So what can I follow
    or how?

    OK, so the process we want to monitor is webservd.  Using the PTQL, to get the process we want to, the statement would be something like...

    State.Name.eq = webservd, State.Name.Peq = webservd

    (This means look for a process named "webservd", of which the parent process is also called "webservd")

    Then in Hyperic, go to the platform you have the Sun Java Web server is running on.  Go in the upper right and click on the 'Tools' button and choose 'new Service platform.  Put something like "Sun Java Webserver" for the name and type in the box 'Type of Service' to the 'process '.  Click on 'Ok '.

    (Note: this will not work if there is more than 1 process of kids running with webservd.)  If you have more than 1 child to webservd process, you'll want to specify the service as "MultiProcess" rather than just "process." )

    This will dump you to a new screen.  Click on the gray bar that says: "properties of Configuration.  It will extend.  Click on 'change '.  Then in the box labeled "process.query", the input line:

    State.Name.eq = webservd, State.Name.Peq = webservd

    Click 'OK' to save it.  It must now start the monitoring service and get some basis for this performance data.

    I hope this helps.

  • 11.5.9 to 12.1.1 solaris linux migration and upgradation

    Hi friends,

    I have question about migration and high-grading the existing application and the database.

    our existing configuration
    SOLARIS 10
    EBS 11.5.9 ACTIVE NLS
    DB 9.2.0.8

    proposed configuration
    RHEL 5.5 64-bit
    EBS 12.1.1
    DB 11.2.0.2

    As in oracle support, they said, EBS 11.5.9 is not certified with RHEL 5.5, then we must first upgrade to 11.5.10.2.

    I want to know one thing
    Can I migrate EBS 11.5.9 to 11.5.10 solaris linux directly or I must first upgrade to 11.5.10.2 on solaris only then to RHEL5?

    11.5.9 (solaris) - > 11.5.10.2 (linux). is this possible?

    or 11.5.9 (solaris) - > 11.5.10.2 (solaris) - > 11.5.10.2 (linux)?

    Thank you

    Upgrade to 11.5.10.2 migrate then.

    11.5.9 (solaris)-> 11.5.10.2 (linux). is this possible?

    It is not possible that you can not have 11.5.9 on OEL5/RHEL5

    or 11.5.9 (solaris)-> 11.5.10.2 (solaris)-> 11.5.10.2 (linux)?

    This is possible.

    Since you plan to upgrade to 12.1.1, why upgrade to 11.5.10.2 first (you can skip from 11.5.9 to R12). What I would say, you or the other upgrade your 11.5.9 existing instance on Solaris 10 for R12 and then migrate to Linux. Or, install RHEL 4 on the new server, migrate the 11.5.9 to the new server, and then upgrade to R12 and finally upgrade the operating system to RHEL5.

    If none of these approaches work for you, please let us know so we can provide you with all the documents (in case you need it).

    Thank you
