> He looked and tried reloading f12 & now it turns on & will load the Toshiba page with f2 or f12 to restart at the bottom of page the goes to the blank page with small dash in the top left & nothing else.

It looks a bit like a HARD drive problem.

I had the same dashboard flashes in the upper left and I had to replace the HARD drive.
Please check the setting of the BIOS (F2). Usually the HARD drive must be registered with
If it s not listed, then the HARD drive is faulty for sure

You can also check the HARD disk using software aprty 3rd as Drive Fitness Test.
Its software freeware and you can run a diagnostic process to verify the integrity of the HARD disk.

  • Gray small box in the upper left corner.

I open several sessions on my PC.  I toggle back between them often.  After gray several times to do so, a small box appears in the upper left corner of my office and will not go away until I restart.  It covers some of my icons and it's very frustrating to have to restart several times a day to get the icons is not hidden.

I figured this out, at least in my case - which, by your description and a screenshot, was identical.  This grey area was related to the Manager restore backup & Dell (I think that was his name) - I found on the notifications area, click with the right button on it and left it.  If it happens again, I'll understand how to disable.

In any case, this is what seems to cause this particular thing.

  • Where is the "Firefox" printed logo which is supposed to appear in the upper left corner of the page?

  • I have a Toshiba Satellite A85 with XP Home Edition series. Windows does not start. At startup I get Toshiba logo then a black screenwith cursor upper left. Can I save it?

Toshiba Satellite A85 Celeron with XP Home edition. Windows does not start. I have Toshiba logo screen, then it turns into a black screen with the upper left corner of the cursor. I have the recovery disk. Is it possible to record HD without re-formatting and losing all data?

    Thank you;

    Lobo77

If you run the Toshiba recovery application, you will lose all your data.  As indicated in the warning, this application will restore the computer back to wherever it was when it was first delivered by the factory.

Without other complementary diagnostic information, it is difficult to determine what is happening.  Pressing the key (do not hold) of F8 beginning immediately after that the sequence of power should bring you to the Advanced Boot Options menu.  Try again then press repeatedly the key rather than pressing on and now.

The recovery CD Toshiba, you have probably does not allow a "repair installation".  Contact Toshiba to see if they will provide you with a suitable CD.

Given the fact that you can get a useful place when you start with the Toshiba Recovery DVD, my guess is that the computer is OK but that the hard drive has failed - or maybe more likely - the startup information is damaged so that it does not start.  If you have access to a computer equipped with a burner, download and create a bootable Windows CD.

There are a number of available bootable CD which include various recovery and diagnostic tools.  You'll have to do some research to find out how to use the tools.

    Ultimate Boot CD 4 Windows
    Ultimate Boot CD
    Hiren BootCD

If you feel overwhelmed by the tools and I just want back the data, and then use the Toshiba Recovery DVD, make you a Knoppix CD and use this key to your data, preferably on a network connection.

If all this sounds like too much for you - and there is no shame in admitting that--take the laptop for a good local computer repair shop (not a type BigBoxStoreUSA or rather GeekSquad) and ask them to check it out and make sure to recover your data before anything else.

  • Problem of overheating in the upper left corner

Mac Book Pro start 2010 13 "screen 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

    2 questions:

A: overheating upper left Quadrant (ESC) charger cable not hot why it becomes so hot?  I can solve this problem?

    B: to upgrade of ram.

    Found PC3 - 12800 1600 DDR-3 mhm Ram 4 GB

    The book says 3-8500 DDR - 3 mhm 1066 4 GB PC

    Faster RAM work?

I do not closely with your Mac model but on my laptop (MacBook late 2008), this is where the CPU is, and that's what generates heat, especially if you do intense CPU activity such as games or video processing.  With warmer summer temperatures, it may run more hot.  There are several utilities that allow you to monitor temperature sensors in your computer.  Hardware Monitor their fact is anything but a commercial utility ($).  I constantly run Mac Fan Control that displays the temperature of some of my sensors.  It does not have the CPU temperature, but I made a comparison between the temperature of the led that she appears and it was showed the average of the two displayed in Hardware Monitor CPU temperatures. First of all, I made sure that my fan and ventilation was clean and I opened the computer and used canned air to blow out the dust. I felt with treatment video it still worked more hot that I liked so I used a utility called CPUthrottle to cut back on the use of the processor in my application of coding. Of course encoding takes more time, but I'm happier with a cooler machine.

I don't know about the RAM so.  I'll make sure that stick you with a reliable brand that is known to work with the Mac as Crucial and OWC (Macsales.com).  Mac can be really sensitive to something other than the RAM of superior quality.

  • I installed firefox 16 and when it happens my whole screen turns a reddish color and nothing appears that firefox symbol in the upper left corner.

I have always used firefox. Two days ago, when I opened it, my screen becomes reddish and the firefox emblem is in the upper left corner and nothing else is on the screen--no text, no command, nothing. I uninstalled and installed again, same thing. Help!

Thanks for the suggestions, but on the contrary, I restored my system to 2 days when everything worked correctly. It's all working now. The only great thing that has happened in these two days was a Java Update installation. I wonder if this has a conflict with Firefox. I have not applied this update of Java at that time.

  • Warm upper left corner of the Portege

My new protégé a heating problem. upper left corner (the power button area) heats up in pretty bad and not cool not easy.
This is common for everyone, or anyway I can reduce the heat?

I tried to use the cooling perfomance maintanace application pre-installed, however, he keeps wants me close all the applications in use, however, I do not any application on. Any solution?

    > My new protégé has heating problem. upper left corner (the power button area) heats up in pretty bad and not cool not easy. This is common for everyone, or anyway I can reduce the heat?

I guess that's your first notebook that supports this nice CPU/GPU performance. You will notice this on all the small notebooks (~ 13). Why? Because the cooling modules are placed on the left and the hot airflow together in this direction.
I have U400 series. It unites s 13 and the box on the left is too hot because of the cooling modules.

In addition, the unit supports overheating protection, which means that the laptop stops automatically if the temperature is too high.
The laptop shut down automatically? Isn't it?
Well, in this case, the temperature is ok and not too high.

Of course, you can change settings for Win 7 power management to reduce the CPU and GPU performance, leading to lower the heat dissipation. This keep the temperature at the lower level.

Why and where is the back botton arrow in the upper left corner of the desktop, or the computer? The arrow that you can click if you want to return to the previous page of your screen?

If there is no menu bar use first 'Alt' to display the toolbars.

Show customize them with view > toolbars > customize

then in the lower left corner of the dialog box customize, you want what he read

    Show: icons

  • TX2-1020us digitizer cursor gets stuck 1cmx1cm of the upper left corner

    I have a tx2-1020us

Sometimes, the stylus cursor takes over and gets stuck about 1cmx1cm from the upper left corner of the screen if the screen is 90 degrees or to move away it from the keyboard when you use it as a laptop. If less than 90 degrees, when this happens, it's somewhat usable but the slider still jumps at the skylight at random.

I've known as a locking of the keyboard once but removing the power and the battery it is resolved.

To troubleshoot, I ran the HP and N-trig utilities and they found no problem so even the question that happens. I downloaded the latest drivers from this site and install, I searched on Google and Asus seems to have a similar problem but I don't know if this applies. Sometimes, when I reboot it goes far, other times it is not. Deactivation of the first N-Trig driver stop the question but then of course, do not work the key features.

I installed the software (for most, MS Office, Corel PSP and NeatWorks) and installed a scanner NeatWorks and GPS MS on it since I bought it last Friday (not connected when it is the case).

Has anyone else seen this, they are of a resolution, I would stay before 15 days runs out?

    Problem solved!

Turns, I have a desk lamp fluorescent light about 15 cm from the laptop.

When the lamp is on and the laptop is plugged in, it does the cursor thing erased. Unplug the laptop or move the lamp 25cm and everything works perfectly. Go figure.

  • My custom icon does not appear in the taskbar or in the upper left corner

I'm using LabVIEW 8.6 to generate an executable file. I use 16 x 16, 4 bit color icon. The shortcut is on the desktop, but it does not appear in the project view, it does not appear to the left of the name of the application in the taskbar or in the upper left corner of the front panel.

Previous posts have mentioned using 16 x 16 bit icons, but I already do. Is there something else I could do wrong?

It is included in your project file? You have selected using the icon when you build the .exe? Check the icon in the project, it is best if it is made for all 3 color resolutions.
