NB510 - noisy hard drive

Hello

I treated myself just to a whole new nb510-11j and having owned and loved my old nb250 I thought this might be a better replacement as my boyfrind told me the nb250 would not last forever and I had to upgrade.

I received a new yesterday and registered the warranty with toshiba and I wanted to just ask you a few questions. The new we do a little "rattle" noise from the minute I turn on until it is turned off. I guess that's the drive hard, but is - it normal? About my Mo250 ran in silence and you have heard only the disk hard kick in every now and then. Also he felt 'hot' after a few hours, not boiling like an old laptop but just hot and my OLD computer never gets hot so I'm a little concerned about this too. I just need to know if this is normal or should I send it back while I still can?

The other question was if I get it upgraded to 2 Ram (which I did on the 250) is the toshiba warranty still valid?

Thank you very much
Jen x

To be honest my NB520 is pretty quiet and I don't hear anything. I'm very happy with my machine. It is quiet, run perfectly and the battery life is excellent. My friends has NB550D and it is also extremely quiet.

As Akuma wrote by clicking noise on some hard disks is pretty normal but very annoying.
I don t want to do some panic here, but I think you should exchange it and compare it with the HARD drive on another machine.

Upgrade of RAM do not negate guaranteed and this option is for laptop owners. My NB520 has 4 GB inside.

Please post comments.

    Is - this usual?

    > I thought laptops are supposed to be quiet.
;) not. You can't say that all laptops must be altogether. As you know there are a lot of series of laptops that is designed for the different areas of work.
For example: professional laptops are quite little, and don t support the high performance devices like for example graphics card to play games, but a X 200 was desigened to the game and it is much noisier because of high performance devices.

However, to the noisy HARD drive
I have 2 different laptops. Drives my M40 of Sam makes strange noises, but it works very well, so in my case I would exclude a hardware problem

  • Noisy hard drive, dying machine?

I have an Acer Aspire one running Xp fully updated OS, I was and IExplore user version 8.0.6001.18702 with a chrome plug. Adding Chrome and Foxfire as backup browsers...

    Did dfrag and clean

Virus/firewall used is Zone Alarm free version. Real-time running Active scanner.

Used DirectX diagnosis only tool through all the steps, test all the options... no problem.

Used the latest version of Microsoft Safety Scanner. No Malware or viruses found.

The machine is connected wireless to a Brother printer and internet gateway. Often connected via USB for scanner canon, canoscan (LIDE), an external hard drive WD, where most of the data is stored, rollerball, key board ms Gigaware, several flashdrives, speakers connected to the intake earphonr.

Hard drive was silent all by writing this, it tends to be noisy, the more I do, sometimes... it happened about a month since the last event to long-term noise issues.

I used the heavy machine... Games Facebook, some in iE8, some at Foxfire, some in Chrome... I find more ready feature in iE8 then others... I keep the plugin for a minimon overall, and are quickly when the drive is quiet, the sound slows down all operations. During the noise I shot on YouTube and other videos online... player favorite is Windows Media Player, Realplayer and Quicktime as back ups. I have a "Deskmate" character that works most of the time, the program is no longer supported, but it runs well, I have stopped during the events of noise.

Noise came as soon as I opened a folder to a rtf of the... saved report and closed... noise stops...

I think the hard drive of the machine will die... in how long?

As he does, I would like to replace the hard drive and reinstall the OS do not know how this machine would work with the current version of Windows, there are general specifications on the Acer Aspire One, a person who knows '8' well, perhaps a person MS can comment on the wheather * can handle the specifications of my One AA... I will continue to use the machine as long as I can... I don't want to get a new machine of graphics with all the bells a whisles, but like to keep a usable machine work.

Anything else I can check on this machine... with adding them scareware?

As its name suggests, a 'clone disk' is an exact copy of the original disc.  Everything is copied, including including all files in Windows operating system.  A clone operation usually copierait also all partitions on the disk, including any hidden partition, placed there by the computer manufacturer to restore the computer to its "fresh from the factory" State.  Because the cloned drive is an exact copy of the original disc, you need not to re - validate or reinstall Windows.

Most of the cloning of the applications also drive allow the creation of "disk images".  The difference between a clone and a picture, is that the image is compressed, which allows you to save one or more images on a backup unit.  If a disk hard fails, you can restore an image to a new disk, but you must use the software that created the image to do so; on the other hand, if you have a clone of the original, you simply replace the bad disk with a new one.

In most, but not all, the instructions I've seen point out that with laptop computers that you install the new disk first (with the original drive in an external enclosure) and then make the clone--> http://kb.acronis.com/content/2931 (compare, for example, http://youtu.be/fD08UaWon6A).  Read the instructions that come with any software package that you choose.

What brand of car to use, insofar as I do not enough material work to give you an informed recommendation current.  I always used to Western Digital drives and was very pleased with them.  Others swear by Seagate.  If I had to find which drive to buy today, I would like to start looking at Newegg user comments but there is a lot of material to review sites on the web - most end up confusing the issue, especially since most of the reviewers is now focused on the latest, fastest solid state and more expensive readers.

  • Re: Click on Satellite A300 - noisy HARD drive - strange of sound while booting

    Hi all

I'm new and I would try to solve some problems with my new laptop * SATELLITE A300-1MZ * (with Vista) and * its hard disk * (a MHZ250BH of Fj-simens).

I noticed that he is very mechanical in the normal conditions of use, in fact, when I turn on my computer, I hear a clear rattling and his mechanic from the HDD at different times also when there should be no disk activity.
    * Particularlly every 3-5 seconds * I hear a very strange noise as a small but very distinguible mechanic "CLAC" (is not refer to number of cycle ordefrag or indexing workload). Ditto on my ubuntu LINUX distro.
    However the phone never crashes

_It first start Appareed and it's very noise_.
I would ask if this is normal... It appeared regardless of the AC or battery power source.

I just make a SMART software which is no problem, but I'm very worried about this problem.
By phone, I just say all this to the center of Toshiba in my country, but for them all right. The laptop works ok.

Not to mention that I found that * HDD * becomes * hot * also if there are no programs or processes that use it.
He begins to 29a ° - 31Â ° and it gets hot with normal use (35 ° - 36Â ° after finished booting and after 30-40 min temperature is become more warm-42a ° - 46Â °, when its average temperature is ° - 48Â ° 46a - imagine if I turn for example a virus scan or a very hot video coding software-It to become: 50a ° - 55Â °.) (I try always not to overcome this final temperature). What is the maximum?

    * I hope you can give me an explanation to the problem.*
    * I ask if this is a problem common to other A300 owners.*

For my personal reflection, that noise, it is very distinguible for a cooler quiet fan system (infact my dual core is 43a ° with normal use)
Infact I would like to find a system to enable more cool fan (I have just seen in the bios and utilities from Toshiba but found nothing to that effect)

Finally, I would like to know if the * battery time * 1h30mins (with the symmetric mode) is acceptable for a new laptop (with save mode is 1h40mins max).
    * I hope your support and I apologize for my language school *.

    Thanks y'alls.

    Hello

I think that it s nothing wrong with your HARD drive.
I have two cell phones and a PS3 at home.
The HARD drive in a laptop made similar clicking sound. In addition, I noticed the same sound in the PS3. Since the upgrade to 500GB drive HARD makes the similar sound as the HARD drive in my notebook.
I think that it s nothing wrong with the HARD drive and eventually it s nothing serious.

    > Finally, I would like to know if the battery of 1h30mins (with the symmetric mode) is acceptable for a new laptop (with save mode is 1h40mins max).
Battery working time depends on the use of the laptop.
The battery lasts a shorter time when to implement applications performance on the laptop. Also if the brightness of the display is set to the highest level, the battery needed to dump a lot more quickly.
So I think 1.30 min is OK for the laptop. Of course, you can buy a stronger battery in order to use the laptop longer with battery power.

  • noisy hard drive

I took a hard drive of a dell Desktop Tower scrapped and used for an external hard drive, and I noticed when I started the hard drive it makes a shrill noise noticeable for about 3 seconds, I mean it got my attention, passing more fort that now when it starts... now, I hear a very, scraping little very slight noise when I start it about 1-2 seconds and then it's real calm.

I went to a few sites and they had 20 seconds little records of bad hard drives so I know this as the 'click,' click, click sound of the arm to hit stop in the hard drive looks like... but this does not at all... in fact it sounds better records of the site was for h.d.s. 'healthy '. , so I was wondering if the hard drive that I took from the dell Desktop Tower was perhaps sitting for an extended period and the arm has been a little "tight" to sit on and now it is loose upwards, perhaps?... .the car has been wiped clean,... When I looked in disc project. two partitions have been 100% free... I was wondering too why this other thing happened,... I had hung it up for an hour and I got it and when I hooked it back were two of the new (used) hard drives showing... in the global disk page, there was my internal hard drive display and then TWO of the ext hard drives showing... .so I removed and put back in and it works fine now... so I was also wondering if maybe the fact that she wiped and the arm were no instructions and the fact that if it was sitting for a long time, perhaps the software has been confused or something? and who did the flip arms and both copies appear...? .. .the hard disk was free, this isn't the player, I'm worried and the speaker was 10 dollars... I'm just a bit of a nut about learning about things, is no longer wondering and learn about computers and hard drives... any assistance would be greatly appreciated...

Visit decision-makers HD support site and download/create their utility disk for verification.

No sitting for a period made no difference, a noise 'type stripes' represents a failure by car - it is not just a click, click

  • Very noisy hard drive

I just got an OptiPlex GX280 rebuilt thanks to an Ebay store. The machine runs very well but the thing is really noisy. Sometimes, it seems he will take the wide - like a car engine reving upward. Sometimes he does so power and fan kicks on that is if strong nearby papers move. It seems quite normal. Is it? If this is not the case, what I should look into? I have it laid flat on my desktop for easy access to the disk drive. Is it possible to put it vertically on the floor?

  • Bad hard drive or simply noisy

OK, so my hard drive started to make sounds ringing about 1 week ago. Recently, about 2 days, it is whenever I put my PC to sleep and then wake it upward, the hard drive starts to make knocking sounds, freezes and I get a blue screen. Then the PC restarts, it also takes more time to start and the hard drive continues to make the sounds hitting until the windows is loaded.

Im not sure if it's the hard drive or something, I ran the diagnostic test of the HP hardware on the drive and everything seems fine.

I posted a picture of the exact error code.

IM thinking that it might be something with the system files, so I could do a factory restore and see if that helps, any comment is very appreciated

  • Remove and turn hard drive

    Hello

I have a 2 TB drive Fusion on my iMac 5 k end of 2015.

I would check how noisy is my hard drive. To do this, I have reinstalled OSX on my SSD external drive and restart her iMac. After that I freely disassembled Fusion of the system drive.

Question is: the unmount command does in practice on the mechanical hard drive?

The drive disappears from the system, but what else? Is it still mechanically spinning / running and generating sounds while?

Disassembly of a mechanical drive can not off power to the drive, but the reader can stop spinning after a period of time depending on the firmware of the player. If the Player stops turning then after a minute or two if you mount the drive then there usually a few seconds before the reader appears due to the rotation upward of late.

  • Re: Satellite a660 - problem with HARD drive!

    Hello!

When I turned on my computer this morning, first time I heard the HARD drive worked very noisy. It was like buzzing and clicking, has never been like that. Computer is 3 months old, bought in the pc world.

If anyone can help what to do?

    Thank you

    Hello

    > he was like a buzzing and clicking on... Was never like that. Computer 3 months ago.

Sometimes, this can happen with the new hard drive too. I recommend you save all data, if it stops working. In case you, I communicate with the service center and ask them to replace. they will do it for free. you see, it looks like mechanical problem and don't think you can fix it yourself

  • Time Capsule 2 TB hard drive (ME177LL/A) questions

The hard drive in my recently started TC to operation without ever entering the mode "sleep" between the Time Machine backups.

I tried to turn off time Machine to see if something was to keep it awake, but still, it does not turn down.

What is a HD failure or something wrong with the TC itself?

Are you sure it's the hard drive that works... and not the fan internal... which tends to become louder after a year or two of use? The fan runs all the time and it may become noisier and produce more vibration that it collect dust.

  • Hard drive makes a weird cracking / Satellite A500

    Hello

I have a fairly new Toshiba Satellite A500 (2 months) and for about 2 weeks, it is difficult to start making a cracking noise (a kind of click hear you when the player load something)... He had never done before. Many drive hard making the sound of crackling, I know, but what I find strange is that sometimes both...

I did a lot of testing with different software, defragmentation, clean, SMART analysis, space remaining... and everything is OK. I'm really not see the problem.
May be an indication, noise appeared shortly after I installed GTA 4.

I would like to know if you also had this problem, or if you know how to solve. The hard drive still works fine, there is only this new sound that starts to irritate me...

    Thank you

PS: I'm French, I hope that I didn't too many mistakes...
my hard drive is a Toshiba 500 GB mk5055gsx.

    Hi Renan

In front of me, I have Satellite A500-157. I don't know which is HARD drive inside (manufacturer), but HARD DRIVE works alone and without some strange noises.
On this path, it is not easy to say with certainty if the HARD disk is defective, but you can at any time you want the closest contact Toshiba service provider and ask for help. They can check the HARD disk and discuss with you what may be the problem.

From my experience, I know when HDD makes some clicking noisy it can be the end of the HARD drive.
Maybe you should back up all your data. ;)
Just to be sure... you know what I mean.

  • 10-FC06-0002 - HARD drive recovery disc error load XP and Windows 7 very well

OK, so I have a Toshiba laptop I want to restore because I had used it for school and he had a lot of things about what I didn't need and turned slowly. Rather than take things one by one, I thought it would be better to start from scratch. I jumped in the recovery discs, I created, restarted the computer and booted from the DVD. I have chosen all the settings to restore the computer to out-of-the-box settings and a time window that says «copy files please wait...» "After that the screen disappeared after 10 minutes or so, another window flashes on the screen for a split second (has not yet the chance to see what it was) and then an error window pops up error 10-FC06-0002. The only thing I can do is shut down my computer, and it does not start after that. After trying several times, I decided to come here.

I know what you say. "Before coming here, search or something, there are tons of problems like that here." Well, I'm looking, and all the results told me to "make a copy of your drive and see if it works, if not its your HARD drive ' tried to make an exact copy of the disk using a tool to copy DVD of Google, no dice. I tried copy the files from the disc on the desktop on disk, did not work. Copied files on an old thumb drive and booted from it. The same problem. Make one. ISO disk image and it has burned, triggered the error as well. No matter how I try to run the restore files, the same error message prevails. This would point to the hard drive being broken, correct? This is where I get lost, Windows XP installs flawlessly and works faster that any other computer I used it, as well as Windows 7 beta does.

    -------

Does anyone know a fix to this error so I can restore my computer? Should I order new disks of recovery at Toshiba? How much do cost?

    -------

I created these recovery disks about a week after the computer is turned on for the first time. The only software on the subject was the preloaded software, Mozilla Firefox, and MSN Messenger. These two programs would have caused corrupted recovery discs to bring?

THANKS FOR ANY HELP IN ADVANCE! : D

    -----------

EDIT: Should probably tell you some info on the laptop. It is a Toshiba A200 - AH6, try to restore Windows Vista recovery disks created in the Toshiba Recovery Manager.

    Hello!

To me it sounds like it's your Toshiba Recovery disk is noisy or something else. It seems that the disc can't be read properly.
I doubt that s a hardware issue because you tried a XP and Windows 7 disk successfully.
But as Akuma says that this can happen also due a poor quality DVD media.

In any case, I think you need to order a new drive Toshiba Recovery directly.

Finally and above all the software that you have installed (Firefox and MSN) didn t cause corrupted recovery disk. Theoretically, you can install what you want before you create the recovery disk. The recovery disk creator burning a disc bootable with the files in the folder HDDrecovery on the second partition. All programs that you have installed must be installed after recovery again.
