Noisy hard drive, dying machine?

I have an Acer Aspire one running Xp fully updated OS, I was and IExplore user version 8.0.6001.18702 with a chrome plug. Adding Chrome and Foxfire as backup browsers...

Did dfrag and clean

Virus/firewall used is Zone Alarm free version. Real-time running Active scanner.

Used DirectX diagnosis only tool through all the steps, test all the options... no problem.

Used the latest version of Microsoft Safety Scanner. No Malware or viruses found.

The machine is connected wireless to a Brother printer and internet gateway. Often connected via USB for scanner canon, canoscan (LIDE), an external hard drive WD, where most of the data is stored, rollerball, key board ms Gigaware, several flashdrives, speakers connected to the intake earphonr.

Hard drive was silent all by writing this, it tends to be noisy, the more I do, sometimes... it happened about a month since the last event to long-term noise issues.

I used the heavy machine... Games Facebook, some in iE8, some at Foxfire, some in Chrome... I find more ready feature in iE8 then others... I keep the plugin for a minimon overall, and are quickly when the drive is quiet, the sound slows down all operations. During the noise I shot on YouTube and other videos online... player favorite is Windows Media Player, Realplayer and Quicktime as back ups. I have a "Deskmate" character that works most of the time, the program is no longer supported, but it runs well, I have stopped during the events of noise.

Noise came as soon as I opened a folder to a rtf of the... saved report and closed... noise stops...

I think the hard drive of the machine will die... in how long?

As he does, I would like to replace the hard drive and reinstall the OS do not know how this machine would work with the current version of Windows, there are general specifications on the Acer Aspire One, a person who knows '8' well, perhaps a person MS can comment on the wheather * can handle the specifications of my One AA... I will continue to use the machine as long as I can... I don't want to get a new machine of graphics with all the bells a whisles, but like to keep a usable machine work.

Anything else I can check on this machine... with adding them scareware?

As its name suggests, a 'clone disk' is an exact copy of the original disc.  Everything is copied, including including all files in Windows operating system.  A clone operation usually copierait also all partitions on the disk, including any hidden partition, placed there by the computer manufacturer to restore the computer to its "fresh from the factory" State.  Because the cloned drive is an exact copy of the original disc, you need not to re - validate or reinstall Windows.

Most of the cloning of the applications also drive allow the creation of "disk images".  The difference between a clone and a picture, is that the image is compressed, which allows you to save one or more images on a backup unit.  If a disk hard fails, you can restore an image to a new disk, but you must use the software that created the image to do so; on the other hand, if you have a clone of the original, you simply replace the bad disk with a new one.

In most, but not all, the instructions I've seen point out that with laptop computers that you install the new disk first (with the original drive in an external enclosure) and then make the clone--> http://kb.acronis.com/content/2931 (compare, for example, http://youtu.be/fD08UaWon6A).  Read the instructions that come with any software package that you choose.

What brand of car to use, insofar as I do not enough material work to give you an informed recommendation current.  I always used to Western Digital drives and was very pleased with them.  Others swear by Seagate.  If I had to find which drive to buy today, I would like to start looking at Newegg user comments but there is a lot of material to review sites on the web - most end up confusing the issue, especially since most of the reviewers is now focused on the latest, fastest solid state and more expensive readers.

  • Noisy hard drive Equium A200-1V0

I recently bought an Equium A200-1V0 with Vista installed.
I got it two weeks, I have barely any software, but HDD is impregnated with a really annoying crackling sound.

It is not only during startup, even for the simplest of programs, such as word, brands of hard drive of my laptop this incessant crackling noise.
I thought that the laptops are supposed to be quiet.

    Is - this usual?

    > I thought laptops are supposed to be quiet.
;) not. You can't say that all laptops must be altogether. As you know there are a lot of series of laptops that is designed for the different areas of work.
For example: professional laptops are quite little, and don t support the high performance devices like for example graphics card to play games, but a X 200 was desigened to the game and it is much noisier because of high performance devices.

However, to the noisy HARD drive
I have 2 different laptops. Drives my M40 of Sam makes strange noises, but it works very well, so in my case I would exclude a hardware problem

But who knows, maybe you HDD starts I have malfunction would recommend shows the additional HARD drive activities and to safeguard important data.

  • My hard drive died. A new hard drive has Windows 7 preloaded?

    Hello world

I have a laptop HP G62-225DX with Windows 7. My hard drive died. I think to buy a new one. A new hard drive for HP already installed Windows 7, or I have to buy Windows again?

    Hello

A new HARD drive will have no operating system - you'll need to use your set of recovery disks to install Windows 7 on disk.  The procedure is detailed in the document of HP here.

If not create you these discs or have lost them, you can order a replacement set using the link below - the cost varies a bit depending on where in the world you live, but they are generally inexpensive.

    Order HP recovery disks.

If you have a problem with this link, order them directly from HP.

  • External hard drive - Time Machine

Hello.  I've been using Time Machine to backup my Mac Book Air on an external hard drive.  I have the latest OS - El Capitan 10.11.  Last night, I had to wipe my hard drive clean due to a third-party program of non-working that prevented me to connect to the network from my job.  I reinstalled the program today and I was able to enter the network from my job, but I am unable to restore all backups of my external hard drive on my laptop.  Time Machine does not give me the option to view all the backups that I know are there, although I can see the backups when I use Finder to view the external player.  I don't want to do a full restore, because I don't want to restore the third-party program of non-working.  I'm mainly interested in restoring my personal files and iPhoto iMovie.  Help, please!

It is clear to me, what is the problem, but I bet the answer is here:

There is a waiting period until the PC will start a thing of maintenance, which is very likely to be what it is, considering that it stops it again when you resume activity.

  • NB510 - noisy hard drive

    Hello

I treated myself just to a whole new nb510-11j and having owned and loved my old nb250 I thought this might be a better replacement as my boyfrind told me the nb250 would not last forever and I had to upgrade.

I received a new yesterday and registered the warranty with toshiba and I wanted to just ask you a few questions. The new we do a little "rattle" noise from the minute I turn on until it is turned off. I guess that's the drive hard, but is - it normal? About my Mo250 ran in silence and you have heard only the disk hard kick in every now and then. Also he felt 'hot' after a few hours, not boiling like an old laptop but just hot and my OLD computer never gets hot so I'm a little concerned about this too. I just need to know if this is normal or should I send it back while I still can?

The other question was if I get it upgraded to 2 Ram (which I did on the 250) is the toshiba warranty still valid?

    Thank you very much
    Jen x

To be honest my NB520 is pretty quiet and I don't hear anything. I'm very happy with my machine. It is quiet, run perfectly and the battery life is excellent. My friends has NB550D and it is also extremely quiet.

As Akuma wrote by clicking noise on some hard disks is pretty normal but very annoying.
I don t want to do some panic here, but I think you should exchange it and compare it with the HARD drive on another machine.

Upgrade of RAM do not negate guaranteed and this option is for laptop owners. My NB520 has 4 GB inside.

    Please post comments.

  • My external hard drive (Time Machine) has not been saved for a month.

A month ago I left town for a week. After coming back, I noticed my icon time machine backup constantly Menu bar, but I paid no attention until three days when he tried to save in vain, I noticed. I tried to disconnect and reconnect my external hard drive, but it still does not work. Nothing has really changed any other times where I was out of town and time machines worked perfectly well. The only thought I have, which could prevent the machine from time to work, is that I've been reluctant to do the software update. I heard terrible things about the captain, especially when it comes to iPhoto, and iPhoto is my main thing on my computer... so I had voluntarily decided to not update. Do you think that this is what is causing the problem? Thank you very much.

You him have not said if you did all troubleshooting. Tell us what troubleshooting have you tried, and then we can give you an idea.

Furthermore, El Capitan is very stable. However, you should not pass until your system is stable.

  • PowerEdge T310 Hard Drives die!

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem or something similar:

We have about 100 of T310 in production running with RAID configuration mirrored (Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 hosts - they are obviously not 2012 because this RAID "Controller" does not support the server 2012 and will never be according to a Dell representative with whom I spoke). This is the RAID software built into the BIOS (PERC S100 I think) or whatever for Windows (not sure if it works with other OS?). I'm certainly not an expert on this particular RAID "Controller", but I'm having a bad experience with it or with hard drives that provides Dell. Now until someone enters the speech 'you get what you pay for', I am quite aware of this, especially at this time. Here is the situation that we face. We have 2 servers at each of our branches, and each server has 2 discs. That's a total of about 200 hard drives. Currently, 50 of these 200 readers are omitted. Normally, I would not worry. See, the subject of a RAID is used to provide tolerance of the redundancy and fault when one (or more) disk fails. Then... I should be able to just stop the server, pop another drive, hop on Dell Server Admin and rebuild the RAID, right? NOPE! Here are the results of the last 6 attempts of service with gradient records machines:

3 servers never started upward after be closed (two physical disks mirrored in a failed State)
3 servers booted up back but the RAID rebuild failed because of too many errors on the remaining drive

Now, these servers are not THAT old. In fact, some of those who have placed disks have in production since a little over a year. It does not matter if there is dust in the computer; We had total failure on machines with ZERO dust inside or on the readers. Supplier of readers also doesn't seem like some are Seagate and Western Digital are of importance. Now, I do speak not only on disks that has been corrupted and could be reformatted. I mean they stop actually spinning (think click of death most of the time). Embarrassing enough, I have to admit there are a few cases where I could slap a sense in them (literally - yes I actually physically struck against a hard surface readers and they have began to turn again, at least enough to recover virtual machines).

Now, I went to the bottom of the avenue to try to set up alerts via Server Admin but I noticed that, in our case, the events in the log do not always indicate the drive failure and don't seem to even not always detect the degraded state of the virtual disk (actually, a failed drive is often reported as being in a "ready" State) ", apparently thrown out of the RAID as a renounced child). This means I can't rely on that as a solution. But, well, that's all beside the point... We decided to replace the drives in servers with a single solid state (System of the pair of two servers at each location actually provide redundancy anyway and we were to replace servers at locations where both servers have degraded virtual disks to prevent total failure). No RAID means that we can at least go ahead with Server 2012 and get out a few more years of life of our T310.

I recognize and I probably shouldn't be, that we have absolutely not been diligent to keep the firmware up-to-date (Yes, SHAME ON US, I know...)

Anyway, enough with my history of sobbing and my expert "data medico-techniques"... sharing I'm just curious to know if anyone else has had negative experiences similar to mine. I might also note that we had problems of disk failure with a lot of recent desktop models that use the same drives that come with the T310. I thought it also interesting that we have a couple of T110 out there who are both much older than that of the T310 and have never had a disk failure (keeping my fingers crossed). It's just a shame that we have a few desktop computers (Dimension 3000) who worked for 7 years with their original hard disks and in general, we get no more than 1-2 (maybe 3) years with the things they've been giving us lately. They just don't make em like they did I guess! Anyway, thanks in advance for your time!

    > if anyone else has had negative experiences similar to mine

As a TECHNOLOGY company, we ended up with two T310s in the field before we realized what the S in front of the model number.  A PERC, a software controller had never been in the past, and we didn't expect the default controller for a small business server with SAS 15 K of Dell discs would be.  Of the two, the two had a drive replaced in their bays.  The servers were under warranty, all two S300 controllers and both have been only less than two years.  When talking with Dell technicians, they were very skeptical that readers actually had a problem.  Before we did anything, they wanted the drivers and firmware for controllers and disks up to date.  Then after several attempts, they decided to try a car and if it does not, try a controller.  Is not big thing to inspire confidence.  If you read the questions, you will be fine is based their concern about the false reports.

The next issue focuses on hard drives.  It's easy.  This is because the readers never get a rest.  Unlike with a hardware controller, the drives are insanely busy all the time.  Give up the collar and watch.

Another problem is the only work of S controllers with Windows.  This may look like a small point, that this is not the case.  This means that backup software top of range such as ShadowProtect, IMPOSSIBLE to restore your system in case of failure, only the Microsoft Windows backups can.  Fear that you get the idea that you could do with Windows PE, I have news for you, it does not work.  They have no drivers that will load with it.  Dell has no apologies for the S controller if you enter in this situation.  It also means that many partitioning utilities do not work because most are? nix based.  In addition, recovery tools do not work for the same reason.

I hope to spend the first of our T310s in the field in a H700 this weekend, and another after the tax season for another client who does not know yet what is to come.
