NCL TDMS Converter

Hey guys, it's going to be my first post so please forgive me if I forgot to provide crucial information.

Is what I'm trying to do with LabVIEW to create a VI that uses the examples of OR pre-built "Display NCL Logfile as"Target-BUS"Frames" to write the contents of these logs in a single TDMS file so that you can view several newspapers in a single file.

So far, my approach contains the real top level VI NCL_Viewer. You will first need to provide a file path or a directory, in both cases the VI lists each .ncl file in the specified folder and calls the "display logfile...". "- VI for each of them.

The Subvi then determines if the NCL file is of type CAN, LIN and FlexRay and she turns the respective table but - different from the original NOR-VI - is not write in a PDM file but a table hint. This, however, leads to ~ 500MB including the PDM file and the corresponding index - ratio 50: 50 - what is bad, I know and also takes about 10 minutes to write. Defrag reduced this Mo ~ 25 PDM and<1MB>

FIRST QUESTION: Can I prevent this somehow? I'm not sure on how to use buffering in the case, but given the fact that defragmentation can reduce the size of the file, I have to believe it must be possible to create smaller files in the first place.

In addition all these logs to a TDMS file would be kind of chaotic display, as TDMS allows only two levels of internal file structure. That's why I set up my own new group names in dieting 'Filename-ID' (e.g. CAN_01-963 963 ID in the first newspaper CAN). I did my own version modified DDHN-Viewer-VI incorporated so that it splits the name of group in CAN_01, 963, and creates a new tree like:

CAN_01

-963

-Channels

Even if this isn't the way the TDMS file is built, I can do look as if he was.

SECOND QUESTION: I keep coming with a corresponding number of entries of CAN_01 number of connected on this BUS, rather than just a single entry, listing all the different ID of ID. What is wrong here?

As to help you reproduce my problems I downloaded all the screws in my project, but also a NCL-Logfile for each type of BUS.

I thank in advance and forgive me if any transition is difficult to read - English is not my mother tongue.

PS: Check the path access-controls/constants so that they are valid for your PC.

Just to close this topic, I got the second problem solved and the first omitted.

  • TDMS convert - to-file with the same name TXT

    Hey,.

I'm working on a VI to convert my data PDM in TXT. My original file is large enough, so I first use a VI to split this file into smaller TDMS files of a few hundert. I found a beautiful VI to run the online task that I adapted a bit (see TDMS to TXT Converter.vi), for example, I added a timer function to give a precise departure time. The problem, I am now face, is that the program does not address TDMS files in order while the TXT file numbers are given successively - so I can't assign the TXT files for TDMS files. I tried to extract the TDMS file names and use them to name the output TXT files, but I don't know how the data type to overcome conflicts (see TDMS to TXT Converter_Version.vi). You have any ideas on how to solve this problem?

It is useless to the folder in the list where you do the the file path for the text file.  You already have the file that you want to place the data and the appropriate file name.  Just so use the path to build and wire the result in the file Create/replace.

  • How to convert one or more files LVM of large file TDMS (500 MB, 32 M samples - 2 channels)

I would like to be able to read at least 4 million lines of data total 32 million lines at a time. The TDMS file has given for 2 channels and no time data. If I can convert TDMS files in one or more files LVM, I can read large files of LVM using the JMP software.  I'm using Labview 2009. Please provide suggestions.

Thanks in advance. Best regards, Manish (Univ of a to z)

    Hi Manish,

For your problem with is .tdms to .lvm, take a look at this forum and This example of community.  I checked out, and in my opinion, he should be able to work well for you in regards to creating multiple files .lvm from single .tdms file.  The only thing that could be a problem is the time requirement to enter all in LV, and saves data to several files, but you will encounter when you work with large consumed data.

I would also suggest that you take a look at tiara if you are searching by analyzing large data sets.  The program is designed to manage large sets of data and make the analyzation on the data.

  • Convert/import to Excel TDMS

So I a few LabVIEW code what newspapers to TDMS very well.  I installed PDM Excel add on Excell 2007 and it imports the PDM very well and it looks good.

What I want to do now is instead of having just I want file PDM, as with the equivalent XLS.  As if I imported the DDHN in Excel and then save the workbook in XLS or XLSX.  So I wanted to import the PDM file programmatically, get the active workbook from Excel and then programmatically save the active workbook in XLS or XLSX in the same directory as the original PDM.

I have problems with the first step in my plan.  I see here there are a few details on how to call import TDMS using ActiveX, but when I use it I get an error.  Call ShowAboutDlg or ShowConfigDlg work fine, but when I call the import it I get a "an unknown error has occurred: 0 x 80004003" I think that it is an invalid pointer.

The VI that I used to try to import a TDMS file is attached.  Recorded in 8.20, importing TDM 3.1.0.25, running with Excel 2007 on XP SP3. Thank you.

EDIT: The VI is pointing to a TDMS file that comes with LabVIEW 2009, this path may need to be changed.

Thank you ykdoubles, your VI has been very useful.  With he was able to accomplish my goal to be able to convert to PDM to XLSX with Excel and add it on.  Here's what I came up with for anyone who is interested.

If you have Excel 2003 it may not work, or you may just need to update some of the calls.

  • How to convert a waveform to a tdms file?

I displays an ECG waveform and I want to save it in a .tdms file so that I can open it upwards in biomedical Toolkit for later analysis. What would be the best way to go about this?

Just use the TDMS API to write the waveform directly.  It couldn't be simpler.

  • Convert .tdms in .lvm?

  • LabVIEW: TDMS file data could not be converted to the specified data type.

  • "No valid source or target channels specified. Cannot run. "error when you try to convert to digital channel waveform

I'm trying to convert a waveform channel in one digital channel and a channel of absolute time, but I get the "no valid source or target channels specified. Error cannot run. ».

I'm trying to concatenate several files TDMS InsightCM so I can display the data in a continuous flow over time. If the first file loaded (one of the channels in the group "Signals") convert the same channel, it works fine, but when I try to do the same thing with any of the channels from the second file (one of the channels in the group "Waveforms1"), I get the error.

    Hi JEBalles,

I was able to reproduce this behavior when I chose a digital channel as my channels to convert. In this case, it looks like you run the operation on the speed profile > Mod1-Ch0 A NL, which is a digital channel.

Could you try to select a waveform another channel? It looks like [3] Mod1-Ch0 A NL is a waveform channel.

Wenn ich in die Log-Datei schaue steht das drin invaluable.

As I said ich nutze're noch nicht so lange. Habe ich vielleicht eine Einstellung gemacht wrong?

Leider habe ich mich in meinem last Post geirrt. LIN - und FLEXRAY Frames in BLF-Dateien können erst seit DIAdem2015 konvertiert werden.

  • TDM excel automation

    Hey there,

I have a script that creates *. TOC files. The annoying part is that I have to right click on the file to be converted with the TDM EXCEL ADD INN and save it under the same name as the created every time *. TOC file.

So, I tried to apply in my script but it doesn´t work.

There a piece of code, I found here in the community, but in the line that says 'oComAddIn.connect = True' produces an error.

    Dim oExcel

    Dim oComAddIn

    Set oExcel = New

    For each oComAddIn in oExcel.COMAddIns

    If oComAddIn.ProgId = ExcelTDM.TDMAddin "Then" ""

    oComAddIn.connect = True

Otherwise oComAddIn.Object IsNothingThen' use the interface of the object here

    On the other

MsgBox "no object available interface! :-(. (("

    EndIf

    EndIf

    Next

I m very grateful for all the help.

After running the script, please take a look in the Windows Task Manager. Excel still works?

If so, the following lines should close Excel at the end of the script:

    oExcel.Application.Quit
    Set oComAddIn = Nothing
    Set oExcel = Nothing

  • Absolute Log Timestamp Converter CAN bus

I'm experimenting with the help of the CAN Bus Log Converter to convert raw CAN bus data to a TDMS file to Signal/value data for analysis.

My understanding is that the timestamp to the Raw features store the absolute timestamp (I checked the timestamps in my CAN messages are absolute), but after passing through the CAN Bus Log Converter, the weather channel seems to show only in the relative time (well... a relative number of seconds).

By looking at the properties of the group or channel, I have the following:

    Group:

    CANDateTimeStamp - 25/09/2015 10:19:16

    POUVEZ stamp - 6.36103091565499E + 10

    Time string:

Display format: Digital (it takes not time?)

    Minimum: 0

    Maximum: 63.40234 etc.

I just started using DIAdem angry and I am currently trying a few things while working through online training.

    Hi Sam,

I'm curious, were you angry before you start using tiara or DIAdem because frustrated you?  The Bus Log Converter creates a relative time for each message channel, but includes the absolute DateTime offset until a string of human time date readable and a number of seconds tiara.  If you add this huge number you mentioned to all layer of time values, and then change the channel of the digital display time display, you will get the absolute DateTime values.

  • TDMS of MDF time stamp conversion error / storage date time change

I fought it for a while, I thought I'd throw it out there...

Let's say I have a file TDMS which has a channel of labview time stamp and thermocouple 2.

I load in DIADEM, I get this:

Perfect!  But now let's say I want to save the PDM as a MDF file so I can see him in Vector sofa.  I right click and save as MDF, perfect.  I started couch and get this:

The year 2121, yes I take data on a star boat!  It seems to be taking the stamp of date/time storage TDMS as starting point and adding the TC_Timestamp channel.

    If I change the channel of TC_Timestamp to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 etc... and save as MDF, I get this:

Very close, 2012!   But what I really want is what to show of the time, it was recorded what would be the 10/09/2012.

The problem is whenever I do like recording, date storage time is updated right now, then the MDF plugin seems to use it as a starting point.

is it possible to stop this update in TIARA?

    Thank you

    Ben

    Hi Ben,

You got it right that the MDF use written the time of storage to start MDF that is updated by DIAdem when writing time. We are working on this and will return to you, if there is no progress.

To work around the problem, you can try convert TDMS MDF in LabVIEW storage vis.

Something like the following, you can write your start time of measurement to the MDF file.

    Hope this helps,

    Mavis

  • Error 6 TDMS Open to PDM

    Hello

I have an application that uses the TDMS VI to generate a log file.

The application ran successfully for 12 days. (Each errors and some settings - hourly - has been correctly written in my TDMS file).

Then, the following error has occurred:

Error 6 TDMS Open to TDMS - write data Subvi V1.5.vi MULTIMETER D2XX V1.2.vi->

    Possible reasons:

    LabVIEW: File generic i/o error.

    =========================

    NOR-488: IO abandoned operation.

I join my VI who manage the TDMS files.

The error seems to come from the "OPEN TDMS" VI. The corresponding TDMS file is actually at the location specified, and its content is OK (all the news expected are present). The file is called LogFile_0_1.TDMS.

Depending on the size of PDM, the application automatically creates a new file. I tried to force to get a new PDM from the file (assuming that the current file has been altered or blocked). A new TDMS file was created (LogFile_0_2.TDMS), but only the first tab (root) was created. Then, the same 'error 6' was still there, exactly as before.

Don't you think that this problem can come from Windows?

Or is it my application? This is not optimal, it is that this "TDMS - write data Subvi V1.2.vi" is called on every second and the function "OPEN TDMS" is called unconditionally (even if no changes on the TDMS file are required).

How to explain that this bug appears after about 12 days only?

I'll also the LogFile_0_1.TDMS that I have converted to Excel and the LogFile_0_2.TDMS file that was not created correctly.

Thanks in advance for your support.

    Michael

My guess is that you forgot to close the PDM file and whenever your VI is called a reference is created.

It could be that after a week has reached the maximum possible number of references, and you got the error.

    Kind regards

    Marco
