Needing to have Adobe like choice in drive D...

With Media Center XP, some CDs that need Adobe to read them are not recognized in the D drive.  How Adobe can be used as a choice to open?  I had the home edition and all the CD work; When tech had computor for overhaul, he installed the Media Center.  I need to have Adobe to a large number of CDs that I can not use without it.  Can you help me?  Thank you 1 million...

I think (but this is a guess) that it's happened, it's that you already had the ability to write files to a CD simply by dragging the file on CD icon (or by selecting "save under", then selecting the drive letter of your CD burner).

The most common application that allowed this called Roxio DirectCD.  IBM computers have what we call 'DLA' (Drive Letter Access).

These applications, collectively called "packet writing software", use a formatting system called UDF.  Although packet write requests are very useful because they allow you to use your CD burner as if it were just another hard drive or floppy drive, there is a catch: discs created with this software cannot be read on a computer that does not have installed software unless you first "close" or "finalize" the CD.  Generally, the software will ask you to perform this step when you eject the CD with a phrase like "creating this CD readable on other computers."

Finally my guess, probably, what happened is that you (or whoever you got the CD from) created CD using a UDF packet writing application, but not 'complete' or 'close' the CD.  This worked OK because you had the UDF packet writing application installed on your computer.  However, when you had your computer 'to date' to a new operating system, the repair shop does not re-install this application.

If my assumption is correct, you should be able to read your old records by using a UDF reader.  I suggest that you try either IsoBuster or UDF Reader from Roxio.  Or visit www.google.com/#hl=en&sugexp=ppwl&cp=5&gs_id=t&xhr=t&q=udf+reader
