Nested styles and tab leader?

Hi all

I'm working on a directory of members. All sections are arranged simply enough, but this one section gives me a headache. I would like to automate creating a nested style, but I didn't understand how to set up the text to work with the nested style. I guess it's something simple and I'm just not see it. You know, so I thought that I would like to tender hand.

What I have is a trade name, the right leader points (set in the palette tab) tab, and phone number. The name and telephone number must be "BOLD". The points of the leader must be light (because the "BOLD" points seem too big for me).

So, I have a paragraph to bold text style. I've implemented a character style with the lightness of my regular police. I want to nest the points of light leading in the paragraph "BOLD". The trick is that the names of the companies are all different lengths. Character use to say to apply, then of the Nations United-apply the character style light?

The document will have about 40 pages of these lists, so I'd really like to be able to automate it as much as possible.

Thanks - d

I would recommend an underline instead of a leader in the tab for this kind of work dashed - points begin and end more systematically:

This, to a style of characters something like this:

.. .and nested it in the paragraph style something like this:

  • Help with nested Styles - change of leader between the stanzas.

    Hello

I am new to the forum but a constant Indesign user and sort of self-taught. I have a list of about 5000 names, hometowns and universitys of our grantees, and the space is not enough to give a complete break between the stanzas - like this:

    Y mcnamerson

    Cedar Falls, Iowa

    School of their choice

    (Line break)

    Y O'namerson

    Boondocks, Iowa

    School of their choice

    I need to do this:

    Y mcnamerson

    Cedar Falls, Iowa

    School of their choice

    (line break)

    Y O'namerson

    Boondocks, Iowa

    School of their choice

And I can't bear the idea of going through every space, accentuate the empty text area, ranging in character menu, changing the leader - and repeating 4999 times more.

I think I need to use a nested style, but I can't understand it. Can someone explain to me how to do this in order to simply select and apply a paragraph style? You'll be my new hero.

    Character: Gill Sans MT concentrated

    8pt, 9pt leader fonts

I would like to only 4 points of the leader between each stanza - I think he'll do.

    Thank you

    Jared

Do not put the newlines between your "stanzas" (although technically, the stanzas are poetry)

First - remove empty lines, you have inserted by doing a search for

Edit > find change and go to the GREP TAB

    To find

    \r+

    Implement

    \r

So instead of a newline - simply use a space after paragraph style, just to make sure that the style of paragraph for the school of choice has a space after application

    So what you have here

    Y mcnamerson

    Cedar Falls, Iowa

    School of their choice

In the style options, you set the

Names of people to have a Style depending on location

Instead of having a Style next school

School to have the next Style names (also include a space after the paragraph style setting)

  • Question about nested Styles and returns

I have a paragraph Style that has a slight font specified as its police force. In this paragraph Style is a nested style that calls for a character style (bold text) through the first occurrence of a period.  When I do a paragraph return, the nested style repeats itself and makes bold text via the appearance next period.

Is a paragraph always returns result in the repetition of a nested style?

Everything sounds just except the part where the style does not change when you press ENTER.

Styles do not retroactively apply to an existing text or place the text (other than the style on site map). If you start a new image and type text in BodyStory, and then press ENTER, the style switches that you start to type the second paragraph?

  • Nested tab Leader Style for any price list

    Hello

I wanted to set up a character style for a leader of the tab, which makes the light rather than the paragraph style "BOLD" font weight. I tried the styles of two characters, one as a leader as dotted and obtained different results underscore and tab.

When I created the style nested on my paragraph style using the character style "Leader Dots" change price "BOLD" to light.

When I created the style nested on my paragraph style using the character style "Dotted lines" dotted underscore goes to full width aligned to the right.

These two issues, I think that are b/c, that the tab is aligned to the right. For examples, see the images attached.

I am trying to find a way to have two character style stop before price, but keep the price justified to the right. So in summary, it would be... "BOLD" item name / driving light / "BOLD" of price

    Thanks for any help.

You need to have three nested styles and use up to the first. Like this:

  • Nested style Nested Grep for the last 2 words

    Hi all

I'm under InDesign CS6 on Mac.

I am trying to create a style for a header so that two last words of position have a designated character style (i.e. position is written in light character and last two words of it are in bold). So that I can return the nested style, and by adding the command end nested Style here to each topic, I prefer something more automatic. The only similar to that post was dated 2008 and it was for CS3. Not to mention it was a script. Not a lot of help.

    Thank you for your time.

Can't wait to hear a solution on your part.

    Sincerely yours.

    Sebastian

The last two words in a paragraph matches the grep expression:

    (\S+)\s(\S+)$

    \s whitespace

\S a space that is not

    $ end of paragraph

in other words, a series of spaces that are not followed by a space followed by a string of nowheres at end of paragraph.

  • Problem with nested styles

Relatively new user of InDesign tries to follow the instructions contained in the help files on creating nested styles, and something weird is happening that I can't understand.

The goal: create a paragraph for paragraph style, after a break from the scene in a novel with no hyphen and the first [number] of words in capital letters.

I have the paragraph style and the character in the format style. Each style individually works as expected. But when I select the Style Options > drop caps and Styles nested > new Style nested > choose the character style > via > 4 words > OK, the paragraph begins with the first three words in the normal case and caps are applied to the four words of the first line. Nothing I've tried puts the caps at the beginning of the paragraph and begins to count the number of words from there.

I'd appreciate any help to ease my frustration. Thank you.

    Tosh

OK, Peter responded before me in a few seconds, I guess.

    Thank you, Peter

  • Do tabs in a paragraph based on a style where a nested style ends

    Hello world

I work at a list containing "BOLD" leaders using a nested style. I want to do is have my line of plaintext upward with the line above. However, I can't just create a regular in the style tab because my "BOLD" leaders are of different lengths.

Is it possible to configure the paragraph style so that the text on the line under the first line indentera to where the light text has started on the first line?

    Screen Shot 2016-08-23 at 12.13.52 PM.png

In the above example, I want my text on the second line indented for where is the red line. Note that the "BOLD" leadership in each paragraph are of different lengths. I know that this can be done manually, but I want to try to do this with a paragraph style.

    Please notify.

    Thank you all!

Not with a style of paragraph, but you could use find and replace to add an indicator of withdrawal here after the colon and space.

Which would allow all of your paragraphs to keep the same style, but move your withdrawal based on the implementation of this marker in each element.

    No need to tab stops.

  • Drop caps and nested Styles does not

For reasons that escape me, it seems, the drop caps and Nested styles does not work for me. I am confident, I have followed the correct steps of there exactly: Nested styles to heavy users. Adobe InDesign tutorials CC

Yet somehow the style preview and paragraph simply do nothing for me.

    I wonder what I'm missing.

    NestedStyles_NotWorking.JPG

You have manually applied 1 character Style to the whole paragraph. THT is a priority.

  • Tab style and animation nearby tab

    Hi all.

I created a TabPane and it filled with tabs but have a few questions.

    (1) how to style a tab? I would like to look like the shape of the tabs in Chrome.
    (2) how can I get rid of the funky animation when a tab is closed?

Any ideas? The documentation seems to lack TabPane and examples tab and tab does not appear in the css reference guide.

    Thank you, Nick.

    Hello

You might find the caspian.css a good reference for this (included in the jfxrt.jar in the JFX installation).

Animation looks like it is part of the TabPaneSkin, so I suspect your only option here would be to sublass TabPaneSkin class, override the methods that don't animation (maybe just make createTimeLine return an empty timeline that just fires the event needed), then install your custom skin using the - fx-skin in the style sheet. This skin thing is a little crude at the moment, noises of recent messages, the JFX guys looking to more easily provide skin extension in the future.

In particular, such caspian.css things can be useful:

  • Create Styles... and then the nesting styles

    end tell

    end tell

The police and the point size do not come through when the style is created. Nested styles are not as through.

I tried the applied policies: "Helvetica" to get "font family is not available. Also: font 'Helvetica '...

What I get just now I is no defined font or size. The rest works.

  • A loop Nested Styles - a number of paragraphs of body text Variable

In a loop of nested styles, which is the trick that allows a variable amount of paragraphs signaling front InDesign to move to the next Style?

I got nested style sheets a loop well enough for a report format that I'm trying. Group headers and management work well, but I can't get my nested styles to work with varying amounts of text. Some sections may have a single paragraph (and my grand of work styles nesting!), whereas most of the sections have more than one paragraph (in this case, my nesting styles do not work correctly).

I tried to use a special character to indicate where the paragraph ends - as a tab on the right - but this has not worked for me. Any other suggestions?

    Example:

    Directorate A header

    Group header 1

    Group 1 leader name

    Group 1 body text

    Group header 2

Name of the head of Group 2

    Group of 2 body text

    Group of 2 body text

    Group of 2 body text

    Group header 3

Name of the head of Group 3

    Group of 3 body text

and so on up to the...

    Direction B header

    Group header 1

    Group 1 leader name

    Group 1 body text

    and so on...

    Thank you!

No, you're right, each paragraph would need a style. I believe that the word styles also have a following style attribute, but the problem would be the same here trying to loop.

But this is how text is supposed to be delivered - completely style, but not necessarily with the correctly defined styles. You can redefine the style in the code. I understand that the authors do not know how to use Word and do not have any idea of styles, but if you have people clean the text to add the styles part of the cleaning process, including adding character to the bold and italic styles, etc..

  • Style headings-use of Grep or possible nested styles at TOC

    Hello

I have the following titles on each page 2 spread from a reference book of vegetable oil

When I tried to generate a table of contents, I came across some problems

    Here are some samples

    Title I - safflower oil

Title II - plant species: Carthamus Tinctorius (in the same line)

I would like to take the words of plant species and remove them the style called II while maintaining

the same character search and simply retain title II for the real plant name so that it is included in the table of contents

Using GREP or nested styles would be useful here?

    See screenshotbook screen shot.jpg

    Any easy suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

Yes, only add to the style used for the ads themselves.

Right hanging tabs don't you leaders, the way than do other types of tab. To work around this problem you use underscore of some sort, and the best way to do that is of a character style that does nothing, but add the underline (I like the Japanese for leaders points line style because it's subtle, but you can use what you want, as long as it is an underscore [see the custom underline options]) you apply this character style in a nested style in the paragraph style definition, because no up to 1 ^ y (the withdrawal right tab metacharacter), then the new style of underlining through 1 character.

  • Dilema nested Style

    Hello

Ok... I have this nested style, I've been using call letters in our catalog. Basically, there are 3 styles of character: body and 2 additional for the kerning amount before the letter of appeal and after the period of the call letter just before the description. Here's an example: I enclose a real test file, so perhaps someone could watch my nested styles.

    Basically, here's what works:

    A. Bowling ball. B. tennis racket of. C. ring of superman. D. Golf Club. E. Soccer ball for children. F. ladies espadrilles. G. socks men. H. frogs jump. I. small fish. J. water bottles. K. Snoopy dolls.

It works very well... unless we have a line of type before the first call letter, like this:

Check out these great gifts. A. Bowling ball. B. tennis racket of. C. ring of superman. D. Golf Club. E. Soccer ball for children. F. ladies espadrilles. G. socks men. H. frogs jump. I. small fish. J. water bottles. K. Snoopy dolls.

Basically I have the body through 1 character style sheet., then I have the smaller main character through 1 character style, then I will go back to the body for 1 character style sheet., then the 2nd sheet of character style for the largest amount of kerning by 1 character then again the style of characters in the body through 1. and then again the style of character through 1 character... etc etc etc...

But, once I add a copy to the front, it's a mess.

Is it far from isolating just call letters to a certain style before it and after it? perhaps through GREP, if not through this?

Please let me know if I clouds provide more information. I also noticed that I have lack of nested styles I might add... I think that there is a limit? At the moment I am the letter k, I might add that no more too to keep it going.

There, any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Yet once, there is a file attached for better view.

    Thank you

    Babs

    I'll assume that you're using CS4.

I will first answer the limited number of nested styles.  You make it too difficult. You should only define the 4 first nested styles based on what I saw in your document.  On the 5th nested style, set it on [Repeat] 4 latest styles. This will repeat the series of styles nested until the end of the paragraph.

Then, in order to resolve your dilemma with the sentence that leads to the list, create a paragraph second, based on the first style. Add a new style nested until the beginning of the list, the value [no] through 1 sentence.

Apply any paragraph style is appropriate based on the content.

  • best judgment for paragraph styles, object styles and character styles

I want to learn the criteria difference and use of paragraph styles, object styles and character styles. I know how to use them, but know about the best judgment and context, when you use would be better. Can anyone recommend links? I've been using adobe. Please don't suggest books.

    Paragraph styles are whole paragraphs.

Character styles are letters or isolated words. Do not use the long of an entire paragraph. Do not set all the attributes, only those who are different for the properties of the paragraph Style. Unlike Quark Xpress, in InDesign are character Styles used only for the difference of isolated words.

Paragraph styles can include the character automatically Style: Styles, GREP, nested Styles, initial letters, chips automatic & numbers and line styles.

Object styles , set the frame of the object. They include separate definitions of all of the object, the stroke and fill.

Object styles can also be applied to images in a frame and groups.

Object styles may also include in the following paragraph Style and a style of paragraphs in automatic way.

Object styles have several categories, you can choose which category is relevant to apply. For example, it is possible to apply the first style object to give the stroke and fill and apply a different object style to format the corners only and then apply the next. (With this method last only the applied object Style is linked).

Styles of the opportunity to make global changes in a document. If you build in a smart way, they are a huge time saver. They can be stored in the CC libraries or libraries with objects that are applied to them. If you have created once these styles, you can use them again, and with one or two clicks, you can make their own to new document.

My recommendation: the habit of Styles, name them always with the same names that it helps you to be accustomed to them and to work faster, much faster.

There are more models: Table Styles, Styles of cell, the Master Pages and color chart.

  • Nested style help

I want a header style that is a character style for however many words is typed, then a space, then a rule that fills the rest of the column. I tried several ways, but I can't make it work. The rule ends up being visible through it all.

Instead of nested styles, this can be done with nets of paragraph. Rule here is paper, rule above is the color of the text (or whatever color you want). Adjust the size of the rule and the offsets to work with your text size.  (this example has been 40 pt)
