Now I use a PC with Windows 7 Professional and when I write the address on Explorer as \\myfileserver.mycompany it opens a pop-up to enter my credentials, but when I put my authentication information and click ok, it reminds me the pop-up to try again with a message stating "connection failure: unknown username or bad password.'. • Connection failure: unknown username or bad password

I use Thunderbird without problem for businesses for nearly eight years. I currently run at the top of a tower with Windows 7 Pro. There is only a single account/e-mail address on Thunderbird.

This morning when I went to check my e-mail I have my password is requested, then received the error 'sending of password did not. Mail server exchange.company.com replied: connection failure: unknown username or bad password. "I retried the password, restart Thunderbird and tried again, but still not received the same error. I sent an email from Thunderbird test which was very good. I am also able to connect to the server via web browser and I am able to send and receive emails on my mobile device.

I erased all the saved passwords of Thunderbird and I checked account settings, but I am still unable to download any email Thunderbird.

Apart from the deletion of the account, I don't really know what to do here. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you.

The problem has been resolved. Apparently the POP stack had to be reset by the side of the Exchange.

  • connection failure: unknown username or bad password. Windows 7 computer tries to connect to Vista

I bought a PC W7 and tries to connect to other computers on the network. I can connect to one, cannot connect to the other, but see them as well in the network and sharing Center/view network computers and devices. When I try to log into the device poor, the system automatically changes the ID of the user - I'm on ADMIN, try to connect to GUEST - it varies from my sign in COMMENTS to ADMIN_PC\GUEST.

I connect to the local network of the W7 machine wireless. Vista machine I can connect is connected via the ethernet connection to the router. The machine, I can see, but cannot connect to is connected to a switch via ethernet and then connected by ethernet to the router.

After reading discussion forums, it seems that this problem could be resolved through amendments to the local security policy - network security: LAN Manager authentication level, but I can't find where to do this.

I'm at the end of my thether - I believed the hype and thought that W7 would be easy to use. What should I do to get this thing to work?

You don't need to change anything with LAN Manager. The problem is probably related to point C below. Here are the steps of general network troubleshooting. Just cannot apply to your situation, so just take the bits that are. It may seem daunting, but if you follow the steps in the links and suggestions below calmly and consistently, you will have no difficulty to implement your sharing.

Problems sharing files between computers on a network are usually caused by 1) a misconfigured firewall or a firewall neglected (including a dynamic firewall in a virtual private network); or (2) inadvertently run two firewalls such as the firewall of Windows and a third-party firewall. and/or (3) do not have accounts to the same users and passwords on all computers in the workgroup. (4) tries to create actions where the operating system does not.

In Windows 7, go to control panel > everything in Control Panel > network and sharing Center. Click on "change the advanced sharing settings. You don't want to use the residential group unless you have all Windows 7 machines. If you do and you want to use the homegroup, see Windows 7 Help & Support. Otherwise, in sharing advanced:

Discovery of plug in the network
Open the files and printers sharing
Turn on the sharing section Public folder sharing
    Plug the password protected sharing

    A. configure the firewall on all machines to allow traffic to local area network (LAN) as being approved. With the Windows Firewall, turning on window file sharing and printer as the above will take care of that for you. In XP, you can run the Network Setup Wizard or just enable file sharing / print in the Windows XP firewall exceptions. If you are not running a third-party firewall or you have an antivirus/security with its own firewall component program, then you're fine.  With a third-party firewall, I usually set up the allocation of LAN with an IP address range. E.g. would be 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.254. Obviously you would substitute your correct subnet. Refer to the safety of any third party program or the user forums for how to correctly configure its firewall. Do not run more than one firewall. DON'T STOP FIREWALLS; CONFIGURE THEM CORRECTLY.

    (B) to facilitate the Organization, put all computers in the same workgroup. This is done from the System applet in Control Panel, the computer name tab.

    C. create the counterpart of the user accounts and passwords on all machines. You do not need to be logged into the same account on all machines and assigned to each user account passwords can be different; accounts/passwords just need to exist and to match on all machines. DO NOT NEGLECT TO CREATE PASSWORDS, EVEN IF ONLY OF SIMPLE. If you want a machine to boot directly to the desktop (a particular user account) for convenience, you can do this:

Start > Search box > type: netplwiz [Enter]
Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UAC

Uncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null).

XP - set up Windows to automatically connect (MVP Ramesh) - http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Autologon.htm

    D. Si one or more of the computers on your network are XP Pro or Media Center, turn off Simple file sharing (Folder Options > view tab).

    E. create share as you wish. In Windows 7 I usually share the Desktop of the user and the Public directory.

My account is a regular account. An admin account is active.

Having only one administrator account puts you in a precarious position because it leaves you with no alternative in case something goes wrong with this unique account. What happens when you try these options:

    Hi, Gary Gross,.

    1. did you of recent changes on the computer?

    2. do you have security software installed on the computer?

I suggest that you disable the password protected sharing on vista computer and check if it works.

To turn off password protected sharing, follow these steps:

    (a) open the network and sharing Center by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, click network and Internet, click network and sharing Center.

    (b) subject sharing and discovery, click the arrow next to password protected sharing.

    (c) click turn off password protected sharing, and then click apply. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  • Win7 can't access admin. I get the newspaper name failure unknown user or bad password

I tried the suggestion in another of those posts – forgiveness have misplaced the address - there were 16 separate actions to activate passwords be reset.

    In point 8 - cd/d C:\windows sethc.exe - enter. I crush sethc.exe? Yes/No/all

When I opted for Yes, I managed to complete the process, but I still had the problem.

On the second try, I used ALL 8 point and at the end no copy\sethc.exe 15 - got - file not found.

I find myself with only a user account and I am unable to make changes to the computer, including new programs running.

You must now press the left SHIFT key 5 times when you are prompted to log on. This will create a black console screen where you can use the "net use" command to reset your password.

When you're done, plan in advance and create, test and document a spare, even admin account that you have a spare House key. Running Windows with a single administrator account is risky, as you find yourself.
  • Why NAS network credentials are missing (error code 0 x 80070056) even if the username and password are correct?

When I try to create a system image on a network location Windows asks the credentials network for the target location. The credentials, I get are correct, but I still receive an error message that the location cannot be used because the password is not correct (error code 0 x 80070056).
    Screenshot

The location of the target is a share on a netdrive - D - Link DNS-323. And the part I want access to the backup is already mapped to my computer.

In fact, I got the same error when I traced the netdrive.
Instead of just using the entered user name Windows 7 adds the computer as field in front of the user name-/ login in this schema: Name\Login name of the computer

I guess, because of the addition of 'domain', authentication fails because the network drive does not recognize the name of the connection with the addition of domain. The network credentials window Windows always said that the (certainly correct) password is incorrect. If you check the box to save connection information, the Explorer will open up the reader, even if authentication failed. And now the mapped drives automatically reconnect and can be viewed on the browser without problems.

Is this behavior a bug in Windows 7? Any way to fix or work around this problem?

    Hi Th_Row,

You are on the right track with the help of the name of the computer you want to connect. Have you tried to use the domain\username of the device name? The default device name is dlink-[last 6 characters of the MAC address].
    For example: dlink-ECEA07
If your final username should look like this: dlink-ECEA07\UserName
You can also connect to your NAS server and click the device on the left. On the screen you should see the name; Is the name of your device.
Try that and let me know if it works!
