Network to share Internet between a laptop XP SP2 and Vista Home Premium desktop
I hope this is the right forum. I'm a graduate student in the field of information TECHNOLOGY as well as a few certifications, so I'll have people ask me some questions on how to troubleshoot certain aspects of their computer. Given that I have not learned this yet, I'll paste the question in this case.
"I'm trying to connect my desktop PC to internet by connecting my laptop wireless activated using a crossover cable.
Then I went into the settings of my network to laptops and made a new internet, sharing network.
My laptop is running XP Service Pack 2, and my office is under Vista Home Premium.
Because I'm so used to XP I don't know how to connect my desktop computer to the internet network share that I just made. »
What would be the best way to solve this problem?

I can't print at all using the Vista computer. Is to show that they are networked - is do not know maybe it's that the XP needs a NETWORK map?

Hey Bireshwari
a vista recovery disc you already have is one of the ways that you normally use on a preinstalled vista machine to reinstall
you start from the recovery disk
to boot from the dvd drive to be able to you will see a way to get into the bios Setup at the bottom of the screen or command menu start
It would be F2 or delete etc to enter the BIOS or F12 etc. for the start menu
Change boot order it do dvd drive 1st in the boot order
If this is not the good disk read this information below
Contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it
they do it for a nominal cost of $
also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought
you would normally press F10 or F11 or Alt + F10, 0 at startup to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer
Ask them of the exact key sequence
or borrow a microsoft dvd vista
Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer
they contain all versions of vista
This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed
Save all data, because it will be lost, do the above

Hello
I studied a little more on Norton and Vista compatibility issues and the Symantec Norton Internet Security is certainly compatible with Vista!
Also, I found a document very useful Toshiba on this subject:
Check this box:Windows Mail won't send or receive emails

PC Windows 7 and Vista Home Premium computer network cannot access each other
I have an a Premimum Vista computer with a USB printer on a network with a Windows 7 Ultimate Computer. Both recognize each other both are visible in the network on both computers) but I can not access one or the other. Message on window 7 says "your computer seems to be correctly configured but the resource does not."
"Any suggestions? I need to produce and share printers. Here are the steps of general network troubleshooting. Just cannot apply to your situation, so just take the bits that are. It may seem daunting, but if you follow the steps in the links and suggestions below calmly and consistently, you will have no difficulty to implement your sharing.
Problems sharing files between computers on a network are usually caused by 1) a misconfigured firewall or a firewall neglected (including a dynamic firewall in a virtual private network); or (2) inadvertently run two firewalls such as the firewall of Windows and a third-party firewall. and/or (3) do not have accounts to the same users and passwords on all computers in the workgroup. (4) tries to create actions where the operating system does not.
Excellent, comprehensive, but easy to understand article on sharing files/printer under Vista. Contains information about sharing printers and files, and the folders:
http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx
In Vista, turn on password protected sharing. In Windows 7, go to control panel > everything in Control Panel > network and sharing Center. Click on "change the advanced sharing settings. You don't want to use the residential group unless you have all Windows 7 machines. If you do and you want to use the homegroup, see Windows 7 Help & Support. Otherwise, in sharing advanced:
Discovery of plug in the network
Open the files and printers sharing
Turn on the sharing section Public folder sharing
Plug the password protected sharingA. configure the firewall on all machines to allow traffic to local area network (LAN) as being approved. With the Windows Firewall, turning on window file sharing and printer as the above will take care of that for you. If you are not running a third-party firewall or you have an antivirus/security with its own firewall component program, then you're fine. With a third-party firewall, I usually set up the allocation of LAN with an IP address range. E.g. would be 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.254. Obviously you would substitute your correct subnet. Refer to the safety of any third party program or the user forums for how to correctly configure its firewall. Do not run more than one firewall. DON'T STOP FIREWALLS; CONFIGURE THEM CORRECTLY.
(B) to facilitate the Organization, put all computers in the same workgroup. This is done from the System applet in Control Panel, the computer name tab.
C. create the counterpart of the user accounts and passwords on all machines. You do not need to be logged into the same account on all machines and assigned to each user account passwords can be different; accounts/passwords just need to exist and to match on all machines. DO NOT NEGLECT TO CREATE PASSWORDS, EVEN IF ONLY OF SIMPLE. If you want a machine to boot directly to the desktop (a particular user account) for convenience, you can do this:
Start > Search box > type: netplwiz [Enter]
Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UACUncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null).
D. create shares as desired. In Windows 7/Vista I usually shares its office and the Public directory.
E. After you have the job of file sharing (and tested by exchanging a file between machines), if you want to share a printer connected locally to one of your computers, share of this machine. Then go to the printer mftr Web site. and download the latest drivers for the correct system. Install them on the target machines. The printer must be collected during the installation procedure. If this isn't the case, install the drivers and then use the Add Printer Wizard. In some cases, printers must be installed as local printers, but that is beyond the scope of this answer. Hello
I can't share my media using WMP 11. When I try to do, opens a window of options asking how I want to share media files (with xbox, other users, etc.), and I select the options and click OK. Then, when I return in the sharing of multimedia files to see if the media are indeed shared, a window opens informing me "Media sharing has been disabled because a required Windows setting or component has been changed. For any additional help, click Help on the Web. When I click Web help, the error code above, with a few troubshooting not. You must ensure that Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service is turned on. However, when I get to the list of Services, WMP Network Sharing is not. It is also a step to confirm the ownership of a registry subkey. When I try to access the subkey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences\HME\ [security ID], however, there is no security ID subkey. Instead of that, by virtue of the MCH, there is a list of "default (name), REG_SZ (type) and not the value (data)".Suggestions about how to fix this would be greatly appreciated. Would it be useful to simply uninstall WMP and start over? If so, how to do that? I saw an obvious way to do it.
Thanks a lot for your suggestions.

Hello
I have HP Photosmart C6180 all-in-One printer, that works well with my other Compaq Presario SR2001NX desktop (Window XP) wired without any problem.
But after I bought the new laptop about a month ago, I tried to install this printer on my wireless laptop.
I downloaded HP driver for vista 64-bit, which is not always in the final phase of installation showing big 'X' mark on the screen of the window.
Several chatting online with HP technician did not work at all, and I couldn't connect the printer with that laptop apparently more up-to-date, which is quite frustrating.
I know how to connect the printer wireless with router. The printer screen shows it is correctly connected to the Wi - Fi network.I wonder if Microsoft already knows this kind of installation problems.
It seems that Windows does not install automatic blower for this printer. Most of the HP printers is listed on the function of automatic installation of the window, but this printer is not included.
Hello Itnntkim,
Thanks for posting of Microsoft Answers.
I checked on the compatibility of Windows Vista site and this printer is compatible with the 64-bit system, but it shows there is a required download for the drivers. I've included here the compatibility site.

Hello
Please try to reset the BIOS to its default settings.
I suggest you to contact the manufacturer of your computer to reset the BIOS to its default settings.
NOTE: BIOS change / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.
It could also be a problem with the map Lan itself.

I use an Acer ferrari laptop model with windows vista home premium OS. I would like to know if I can do the free download and use windows 7 instead of windows vista in laptop (I understand that there is a similar model earlier). The laptop is used entirely for personal use @ home, not for purposes of Trade/office.
Windows Vista is to give a lot of problems even with installed virus scan software. It is slow and gives challenges to the use of household memebrs.
Many offered computer manufacturers free updates from Vista to Windows 7 on computers purchased during a certain period of time, but this time with the supply have long expired. There is no such offer to download/update free available anywhere.

File sharing between 'Vista Home Premium' on desktop PC and 'Windows 7 Starter' on laptop
Hello
I have a desktop under Vista Home Premium PC.
I would use my laptop, Windows 7 Starter, to access the files/folders on my desktop running.
The existing guidelines of Microsoft tells me to select one of the three options on the 'Remote' tab in the 'System properties' window, you get to via the settings 'distance' in the 'System' part of the 'system and safety' in the control panel.
However, the "three options", to which it refers do not, appear on my phome PC or laptop.
Exactly how you set this to the top!
Thanks in advance for your help.
Win7 when configured on the peer-to-peer network has three types of configurations of sharing.
Group residential network = only works between Win 7 computers. This type of configuration, it is very easy to entry level users to start sharing network.
Working network = fundamentally similar to previous methods of sharing that allow you to control what, how and to whom the records would be shared with.
Public share = network Public (as Internet Café) in order to reduce security risks. For the best newspaper of the results of each computer screen system and together all computers on a network of the same name, while each computer has its own unique name.

Make sure that the software firewall on each computer allows free local traffic. Please note that some 3rd party software firewall continue to block the same aspects it traffic Local, they are turned Off (disabled). If possible, configure the firewall correctly or completely uninstall to allow a clean flow of local network traffic. If the 3rd party software is uninstalled, or disables, make sure Windows native firewall is active .Since you have a network with Win 7 and the other version of Windows, you must configure Windows 7 as work network.
In the center of the network, by clicking on the type of network opens the window to the right.
Choose your network type. Note the check box at the bottom and check/uncheck depending on your needs.
