new iphoto

I downloaded the latest version of iphoto.  Everything is so confusing and unorganized.  Is there a better version or another program to use?  I hate this new version.

You are referring to the new, replacement Photos app, right?

Moments in Photos are new events, i.e. groups of photos sorted by date of catch.

When the iPhoto library has been migrated first to the pictures there is a folder created in the box titled iPhoto events and all migrated iPhoto events (which are now Moments) are represented by an album in this folder.

Use the Command + Option + S key combination to open the sidebar if it is not already open.

NOTE: it has been reported by several users that if the albums of the event are moved in the iPhoto Library folder in the sidebar, they disappear.  It is not widespread, but several users have reported this problem.  Therefore, if you want to if ensure that you keep these event albums do not transfer out of the iPhoto events folder.

Is there a way to simulate events in pictures.

When new photos are imported in the library of Photos, go to the smart album last import , select all the photos and use the file menu option ➙ New Album or use the key combination command + N.  Call it what you want.  It appears just above the folder to iPhoto events where you can drag it into the events in iPhoto folder

When you click on the folder to iPhoto events, you will get a window simulated of iPhoto events.

Albums and smart albums can be sorted by title, by Date, with the oldest first and by Date with the most recent first.

HOWEVER, you can still use iPhoto if you were using a version of iPhoto 9.x before upgrade to El Capitan.

iPhoto is not removed from your hard drive.  It was just removed from the dock and is always in the Applications folder. In order to get iPhoto 9.6.1 from the App Store, you must first have a version of iPhoto 9.X on your hard drive. If you try following instructions of Terence Devlin this post to get iPhoto 9.6.1 from the App Store:

Go to the App Store and check out the shopping list. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1

If iPhoto 9.6.1 is there, close the App Store, drag your existing iPhoto application (not the library, just the app) to the trash and then return to the App Store.

Install the application on the App Store.

IPhoto is sometimes not visible on the shopping list. It may be hidden. See this article for more details on how to view it.

A question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?

iPhoto, the application and the iPhoto library are two different parts of the iPhoto program. So, reinstall the application should not affect the library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

NOTE: the key of this procedure is to move the existing version of iPhoto 9 to the trash in the Dock (not yet empty) before going to the App Store.

Just update to OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)?  Then, you need to update to iPhoto 9.5.1. But this update is no longer available as an update. It was sold only as a version of the AppStore. Apple has stopped the development of iPhoto. This will depend on the version that you currently have, if you can update all iPhoto.

  • Photo sharing in new iphoto using Gmail?

Can someone help, I work on a Macbook Pro with OSX Yosemite. Thank you!  Michelle

This isn't iPhoto it's pictures, a completely different application.

Gmail is a messaging service that access you using an application any - whether it's Apple Mail another customer of email or a web browser, so what app do you use?

How are you trying to share?

  • How can I get my old iMac Mavericks on my new computer El Capitan iPhoto?

I'm an amateur photo with literally thousands of photos of scenic and nature, all labeled with keywords and manually marked locations (since my DSLR is not an internal GPS and therefore cannot automatically geotag photos) in iPhoto on our old computer that runs on the Mavericks. Recently, we bought a new iMac that runs on El Capitan, and when we moved my data from the old computer, all of my iPhoto library moved into Photos. Unfortunately, because the pictures does not support the manual tagging locations, all hours of work I put in dropping the pins on maps to show the exact location where all my photos have been taken has disappeared. Enter Photos and keywords to adapt to all of the States, cities and specific locations where these pictures were taken just is not practical; my list of keywords would get horribly difficult to handle, and a good number of these photos were taken in "one-of-a-kind" tasks because they were taken on the fly from a moving vehicle. And that is not even taking into consideration all overtime work that would result. There must be someone out there who is dealing with the frustration of having to deal with a system that was designed for the casual snapshot-takers rather than serious photo enthusiasts! I still have the old computer with iPhoto installed on it and all the photos that I put in it until we bought the new computer. Is it possible that I can get the old computer to the new iPhoto? Can I put it on an external drive or DVD and copy it to the El Cap computer as iPhoto, or will it simply push all in Photos or choke and gag on that? I continue to work with my photos in iPhoto on your old computer, and I hope that he does not die in the near future? (And while we're at it, has any outside me informed Apple photos how bad works for those who need features in iPhoto that does not get incorporated in the Photos? I left a note on the comments, but I have no way of knowing if someone is on my suggestion.)

Click here and try following the instructions; you will only be able to do if you got before where associated with iPhoto on the Mac App store.

A version of aged more than 9.6 iPhoto does not open in Yosemite and newer.

  • Corrupted iPhoto Library - repair or create a new one?

    Running OS 10.9.5, iPhoto 9.5.1

Before I knew better, I've stupidly went into iPhoto "Show Package Contents" and messed around, by manually removing the many photos (need duplicates for some time). A few weeks later, I started to notice the bad behaviour of iPhoto: miniatures that are not open, wouldn't play movies, originals not found - all signs of corruption. Finally, he reached the point where my iPhoto application not open yet, even if the contents of the iPhoto library appeared to be intact (I couldn't find any example of original photo file missing actually).  The folks at Apple store helped me to the trash and re - install my iPhoto app, and now everything seems to work very well.

My question is: because I messed around with the iPhoto library structure, if there is still an underlying problem that could come back? I don't know if the library has been damaged, or if the iPhoto application has been altered, or both. Should I create a new iPhoto library and import all my existing content there? (Like start again). I don't use any metadata such as faces, or places or edits, is not important for me to preserve this. I can always re - create albums. Everything I need to keep is the unique file name and the date of each photo and film.

Or can I trust that the problem has been fixed? Is it possible to test or verify that the library is not corrupt?

    Thank you

Stupidly, I went in iPhoto "Show Package Contents" and messed around, by manually removing the many photos (need duplicates for some time)

This has no effect on demand - data - the library so reinstall the Application will not solve the problems caused by your actions

It would be better to restore a backup before you have done or start over with a new library and import are original photos

  • Cannot open iphoto library after copy old HARD drive to the new HARD disk

I had to buy a new MacBook and recover my files, the old MacBook HARD drive is connected to the new via a USB connection and support base.  I have successfully transferred all my files to the new disk.   However, I can't open the iPhoto library that I just moved through without going through the old drive still connected.  I get a message like "cannot open the migrated library.   However, the new iPhoto on the new laptop is accessible OK.

Yu try to open the iPhoto Photos or iPhoto library?  "Cannot open the migrated library" alert indicates, that you opened the library on Photos for Mac and application Photos changed the name of the library ".migratedphotolibrary" file extension

If you open the photo library, but want to use with iPhoto, change the extension of your iPhoto in ".photolibrary" library file name

  • export to iPhoto Photos

I have a folder of iPhotos events in my conversion in Photos. I would like to export all the photos of 25K back to iPhotos using the same organization which is represented in my file of events iPhotos. Is this possible and if so, how it would accomplish this?

This is just a step towards abandonment iPhotos so many Photos and move on to another dam/Editor, but I hope that maintain the organizational structure I had in iPhotos instead of what is happening in most recent Photos.

Thanks for any help or instruction.

    FBX

There is no direct export photos to iPhoto, back only at the opening. So are you opening?

To create a new iPhoto Library export your original images of pictures into folders, a folder for each album 'event '. Then import them into a new iPhoto library.  To export albums in folders, you can use an Apple Script - see this user Tip: Export of Albums to records - Script of Jacques Rioux

Or restore your iPhoto library from the last backup that you do, so you simply add more recently added pictures from the migration to the Photos.

  • Need help with the upgrade/reload iPhoto

iPhoto constantly crashed when I opened it.  He didn't stay open long enough to even load the library.   By reading the forum I found what I thought might work, so I've renamed it my library (which is more than 300 gig) "OLD iPhoto library" and put it on my desk.   So I uninstalled iPhoto.   I reinstalled iPhoto from my iLife 11 disc.   When I tried to open my library, it says that it cannot open because I used a new version of iPhoto in the past.   Then I checked and there is an upgrade.   Tried several times to upgrade but after a few minutes the upgrade it is said that the upgrade could not complete because of an error.

I told my new iPhoto to start a new library, and then I dragged my old library on it.   He said he was "preparing to download" - then he warned me that there was not enough space so I want to continue?   I said 'no '.   My HDD is 500 gig.  My iPhoto library is 314 concert.   He obviously cannot reproduce itself on the same hard drive.

So now, I can't have my old library of photos.

Can I move my old library on an external hard drive, which could free up space on my internal hard drive, I guess.   Then I could copy it?   Who is?

    Any ideas?

I use OS 10.8.5. This MacBook Pro is pretty old and I know that if I upgrade to Yosemite or El Capitan, some of my programs do not work - so I've been turned off of the upgrade of the OS.   Should I do it?

iPhoto constantly crashed when I opened it.  He didn't stay open long enough to even load the library.

Older versions of iPhoto on Mt. Lion keep crashing for a few months. This is because iPhoto can't access Google's servers for the functionality of the site. If you have photos with assigned places, iPhoto will crash, as soon as you open the Panel information for them. See this tip for the user:

iPhoto 9.4 crashing during playback of the scene

You can not iPhoto completely rework on Mt. Lion.  You can stop it just from crashing by disabling the feature patch places the iPhoto application.  To correct the iPhoto your best bet would be to restore the version of iPhoto you had your backup, and then change the iPhoto application as described in the user above trick.

Or upgrade to El Capitan and Photos for Mac:

Apple has stopped support for print as well.  It's time to move to El Capitan and Photos for Mac, or to find another replacement for iPhoto.

How have you tried to upgrade?  use the Apple Support page accession, not the updates since the AppStore - they do not work any longer for iPhoto.

I told my new iPhoto to start a new library, and then I dragged my old library on it.

This way you do not upgrade and open the library you have imported all the photos into a new library. This does not work, because all the thumbnails and previews will be imported as separate photos, duplicate. You have ti first day to lat version you had once again, then open the old library by double-clicking it.

  • iPhoto 11 crashes when you try to use the slide show

    Hello

My iPhoto 11 9.4.3 crashes whenever I try to run a slide show. I have a 2012 end Macbook Pro osx 10.8.5 with all updates of operation. I tried a lot of things. I have several libraries and each the same plant. I created a new library and loaded new pictures with the same result. I rebuilt and repaired each option with the option/command start of iPhoto on libraries. I have rebuilt libraries with iPhoto Manager with the same result, it hangs at the start a slide show. It seems to be a message that cannot be read just before she leaves.

I think I installed new iPhoto 11 of my purchases, but perhaps did not it good as I didn't delete the iphoto.pkg from the front desk of the library, but I was wondering if another problem exists. I got the below error report.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    1 goto /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/Resources

  • Missing tools in iPhoto Version 1.2 (340.4.0)

Where is 'boost' and other features of development and the "Edit in external editor" option in iPhoto Version 1.2 (340.4.0)?  In addition, the tool 'Enhance' does not work.

I did not choose to pass the new iPhoto.  It happened when I upgraded to El Capitan.  I can't have the old one back?

You must provide details and use the correct descriptions - there is no 'boost' function in iPhoto - what exactly are you talking

Photos has more and better editing tools than iPhoto - you may need to click on the word "add" in the edit window and add some - and on others, you may need to click the v of his right to develop all the features

There is not change in an external editor in Photo - it replaces the concept of extensions much more useful - many programs purchased in the App store include extensions to add features of photo edition - silent is an example

Improve certainly works - I use it every day

and you have chosen - all upgrades are optional and iPhoto is still in your applications folder and still works iPhoto version 9.6.1 - if you do not keep your software up to date see can't update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store

If you have any questions you should validate the rather than post brainless RANTS that are totally incorrect - help is available but you must do your part and be quiet and give correct information

  • Where are all my photos after upgrade?

    Hello

I just upgraded to 'El Capitan' to an older version, I had jumped Yosemite. I got 12 000 + photos.

When I open iPhoto nothing in it. When I check my "about this Mac" I see still 28GB in my memory filled with pictures. They must be always there somewhere. How can I get into my new iPhoto application?

Thanks for all the help I can get.

    Marc

You open iPhoto or News Photos for Mac?

If Photos for Mac comes empty, search for your iPhoto library. By default, it should be in your pictures folder.

Select the iPhoto library and drag it on the Photos icon in the Dock to open in pictures for Mac.

  • Need help photos

I recently upgraded the OS newer.  I had been using iPhoto, and now it's pictures.

    1. on my old OS iPhotos, you could label each photo and it show up under each.  I can't see her now.  How do you get it to work with the new application?  If I have a Word doc to list titles, I'm screwed because some of these lists are 8 years old an dI have a LOT of pictures.

    2. I tried to take the last album of photos on an old computer and it says that the photo is not compatible.  I'll keep the old computer to run applications is more compatible and it works 10.6.8.  Are these photos a place that I could find and take over for this iPhotot?

These are painful for me and I hope someone can help.

    Thank you.

On Photos for Mac, you can see titles under the thumbnails of the photos, if you enable it in the view menu:

    Select ' View > metadata > title.

To add titles to photos, select some photos, and then open the Info Panel and type something in the title field.

Try to find the library, iPhoto on your old computer.  It will be in the pictures folder.

Copy the computer to your new iPhoto library and drag it on the Photos icon in the Dock.  The photos should open this library and migrate Photos as a new library.  To switch between libraries and hold options while launching Photos. This will and you select the library to open it.

  • How to increase or improve the photo editing tools?

"I can't find ' extensions third party for Photos" in the app store even if it is where they continue to send me. iPhotos had MUCH better editing tools, photo editing tools do not give me the standard, that I need for my photos. I wish I could go down to new iPhotos!

Maybe you have to click 'Add' to add other - edit mode == > adjust click Add at the top right and a few adjustments have a v to the right which will develop more options

about extensions to read descriptions of App store to see which ones have them - Leonied a list of those she found - Photo editing for Photos for Mac Extensions

  • Photos from iphoto imported disc ext new imac then lost new photos and photos app

Imported photos iphoto to ext drive to the new imac then lost new photos that were stored in the new «Photos for Mac»

All those Iphoto original is in my new mac now, but still using the format "iphoto". ...  Found the most recent that I had stored in the new format 'Photos for Mac' in icloud but can no longer run the new format or retrieve photos from icloud on the imac?  I'm confused... I obviously missed a few steps.  Be nice... I'm old!

iPhoto Photos are two different applications and they use different libraries.

So I understand you correctly: you have applications and different photos in two libraries?

    Missing also photographs?
