  In order to see the most recent external drive in Lightroom, you must either import some images of the most recent disc.

  Or move some images of the old drive to the more recent, outside of Lightroom, and then reconnect the images from Lightroom.

  I recently bought the new Nikon D7100 and of course this is not yet supported by my Lightroom 3.  I open Lightroom 3 and click 'Help', the user has clicked "check for updates" and he said: there is no update for this software!  Which is not true.  Why should I go manually to Lightroom online to check updates?  Why not check updates from inside Lightroom 3 work?

  There are updates and upgrades there.

  Lr 3.5 to 3.6 Lr is an update.

  L3 to Lr4 is an upgrade.

  Updates are free, for upgrades, you have to pay.

  The feature in the help of Lr is called "Check for updates", not "check for upgrades".

• All-new Machine Windows 8 - windows update does not progress

  New Windows 8 machine (for my father) - had installed Office, Chrome and Firefox only.  Tried to go to Windows Update to ensure that it has been updated for the latest and best and he finds 65 updates, and he hung up download them.

  I came back a week later (the machine was turned on and off several times during this period, and the event log has had all kinds of timeout errors.  I did a recovery key back to the original state, am now setup and trying to run windows update once more.  He always found 65 updates and this time at least the bar moves to show that it is theoretically do something, but he always says 0KB downloaded, 0% complete...  If a clean install should not be able to download the updates?

  It turns out-I just need to wait.  He worked the second time around.  The progress bar is spent directly 0% to 99%, after half an hour.  Windows needs to work on their progress bar.

I saw another person posting a message on a forum somewhere that had a similar problem on this exact model as the only answer that I was to go to the Microsoft page that tells you to do what I've done.   I copied and pasted the steps below from another thread. The procedure worked for me both my 8700 s after that I had tried just about every other proposed solutions. I hope that the procedure will work for you too (assuming that you have not already tried).

  (1) uninstall KB2871389 and restart.

  (2) download the update of Microsoft KB2871389--> http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40098

  (3) manually install the KB2871389 update and reboot.

  (4) you must now (I hope) see the 8.1 update in the Windows store.
