New server environment ESXi5

Of all my studies, I understand that DNS is fundimental to the works of ESXi.

However, I will build a new network with no infrastructure exsiting. That's why no DNS, I intend to host my DNS on my virtual domain controller.

What is the best way to do this?

I also want to use the server vCenter OVF, but you need to to build the VSphere environment, to put the virtual vCenter vCenter on to.

Catch 22.

Thanks in advance for the help

You won't need to install DNS immediately.  Install your ESXi host and deploy the vCenter OVF appliance on it.  Then use the vCenter to create your ad / DNS server (you need not AD for DNS,) and then go back and configure your DNS server in the ESXi / vCenter.

Although HA has no obligation of DNS more, errors with the console and other redirection can occur when using vCenter to manage your environment, so get the DNS records and servers put everything away before creating your environment more far.

  • Need help to update to work with the new vSphere environment 6

I have a great powershell script some time ago, I created to clone our production servers in a development environment and configure them for use in isolated vShield development networks.

We have recently updated our environment vSphere vSphere 6 and changed architecture autour 5.

Previously with vSphere 5 we had a unique vCenter server that managed our two datacenters by itself.

With the new design of vSphere 6, we have a PSC and VCSA server to each data center in one area of SSO.

The first thing I did with my script of cloning is up-to-date reference vcenter for a table of two servers, so I connect to two VCs at the same time.

This allows me to see and manage the two vCenters virtual computer guests, so get - vm strives to see the comments of the source.

However, the problem is that when I try to clone a virtual machine from one data center to another, the command fails because it can't find the virtual machine to clone.

    # Virtual Centre server or VM host to connect to
    $aryVIServer = @("vc01.domain.com", "vc02.domain.com")

    # Load VMware environment
    Set-PowerCLIConfiguration -DefaultVIServerMode Multiple -InvalidCertificateAction Ignore -Confirm:$false | Out-Null
    $VIServer = Connect-VIServer $aryVIServer

    # Server cluster group to deploy to
    $strVMCluster = "Bubbles"

    # Define name of new server including environment prefix
    $vmName = "$($envPrefix)-$($CloneServer)"

    # Select Host with least memory consumption
    $selectedHostObj = Get-VMHost -Location $strVMCluster | Sort-Object -Property MemoryUsageGB | Select-Object -First 1

    # Select folder to place VM guest into
    $folderObj = Get-Datacenter -Cluster $strVMCluster | Get-Folder $selectedBubble

    # Select datastore with most available space
    $selectedDatastoreObj = Get-DataStore -VMHost $selectedHostObj | Sort-Object -Property FreeSpaceGB -descending | Select-Object -First 1

    # Clone new VM from running Server
    $newVM = New-VM -Name $vmName -VM $CloneServer -VMHost $selectedHostObj -Datastore $selectedDatastoreObj -DiskStorageFormat "Thin" -Location $folderObj -Confirm:$false

He used to work very well when there was a single VC but of course does not now with two.

So far, the only difference is the change in VCs. We always use the same exact 5.0 running ESXi hosts to the same place in separate data centers.

    Oh and I'm now using powercli 6.3 R1 instead of 5.5 R1.

I look forward to this type of procedure should work fine, and I just need a different command for virtual machine cloning now?

Well, I have solved the first problem according to them here:

Re: Impossible to deploy VM model on different vCenter Server (in the same domain of SINGLE sign-on)

However, now I can't run Invoke VMScript without getting an error that the proxy authentication is required.

If I remove all my proxy settings in Internet Explorer, then it connects fine but this script must be run by a number of engineers without being dependent on their proxy settings are disabled.

I can programmatically change the settings of proxy at the beginning of the script, but nothing not preventing to change those back if they use their browser and break execution of the halfway of script.

Never had any problems with the Proxy settings before and I didn't know any other messages that have directly relevant air.

Anyone know of a way to avoid this?

  • Colfusion 11 (from 9) updated, new server, need to run as well for compliance testing

    Hello

As I improve my two CF 9-11 and my server, from an individual hosted on premise to a cloud solution server based virtual machine.

Current server runs CF9 in production and I can't close it until the Cloud Computing environment is fully configured and tested.

Security audit will not be run on an edition of the trial/developer so that I need to have two server (on prem and cloud) simultaneously with a production version of the CF for a while (2 weeks for example).

Am I allowed (license terms) to do?

If I run the process of upgrading (from CF11 trial/dev edition) on the new server (cloud) using my CF9 series, it will deactivate the license on the other (on prem - CF 9)?

Is there a specific action, I can have 100% that current production server (on prem CF9) will not be affected?

  • The steps required to perform a migration to a new server vCenter using distributed switches?

We are currently on version 5.1 of vCenter and ESXi 5.1 on all our guests.  We use a vDS on our current server vCenter and will need to migrate to a new server vCenter soon.  Is there a documentation about the steps to migrate to a new server vCenter using switches distributed?  We hope to achieve this goal without any downtime.  The problem is that we need that VDS on our 10GB network for the aggregation of links.  If having to migrate guests at standard switches before moving them to the new vCenter server, there will be problems of network performance.

Because information about your environment are stored in the database of vcenter al you should just be able to stand up the new vCenter server and that it points to the existing database

Yes it is possible and all you need to do is the following (you need not move node 1):

-Install the operating system on the new server + pre - req packages and OS software

    -Preclone run on node 2

-Termination of the application on node 2 and copy the files to the new node

-Postclone run on the new node

  • Switch the database 10g from Windows to Linux (new server)

    Hi people,

I'm still new here and I'm working on a project. I'm trying to move a database 10 g of Windows on a new server with Linux 5. Please what are the steps I need to take?

    * The present Server (Windows 7) is in noarchivelog mode
    * There is practically no link between this 2 servers
    * This is a development environment, and so I have a lot of time to experiment.

    Thank you!

    Hello
DataPump (expdp/impdp) is the way to go. expdp create a 'logic' of the database dump - create some think it's just a series of statements and insert statements written in a file. This file is generic and can be used on any platform. If your shipping it a long way (not sure how far Virginia is you another site) you can zip it before sending it. At the other end you just need to create a database of "shell" - that is a very basic database which you are then going to create all objects (maybe version different oracle - with some restrictions). Then use impdp to transfer the file and create everything.

    See you soon,.

  • Mobile to a new server vCenter ESX host

    Hello.

For several reasons (including the old server vCenter 2003 x 86) I would like to move our ESX host to a new server vCenter (version 4.1 under Windows 2008 R2). Our ESX environment using HA/DRS and resource pools.

Is it possible to move the hosts to the new server without VM downtime?

I think disabling HA/DRS and then disconnect the old vCenter servers, then adding them to the new. That would be possible, or is there a better way?

And second, that things are lost that kind of operation? Data of performance and resources with Betclic, another?

    / Christian

    Hey there,

    The procedure is very simple:

    -Disable HA host monitoring

    -Disconnect the old vCenter host

    -Remove old vCenter host

-Add the host to the new vCenter Server

-You will be weather you are prompted to add all of the resources of the host with Betclic under a live of... the list resources or put all your VMS in pool root of the pole. Select them grafted in... so you can keep your resource pools. You can move the autour pools in the hierarchy on the new vCenter.

-After you have moved all of your hosts, you can activate HA host followed once again and check that the DRS has the settings you want.

You lose well obviously all performance data, but you can bring your pools of resources for the new vCenter.

  • New server vCenter Server

I am running a 3.5 environment, and I want to get to sphere.

I'll create a new vSphere vCenter server to manage my boxes of esx 3.5 and possibly update these boxes to sphere.

Currently, vCenter 3.5 I manage my esx boxes, and this same server is the license server.

Can I simply create a new server and then add my esx boxes in its inventory of management?

Do I have to remove these boxes on the other server vCenter esx?

Can the two vCenters be running at the same time?

And have point to the new server cVenter to the old server vCenter for licenses, or simply keep the old server up?

Do I have to remove these boxes on the other server vCenter esx?

    Yes

Can the two vCenters be running at the same time?

No.... not if they use the same DB instance.  If you use a different instance of DB, then Yes. But you can't manage the same ESX host in both environments.

And have point to the new server cVenter to the old server vCenter for licenses, or simply keep the old server up?

You can use your old license for your VI3 hosts server.  Home - vCenter Server Settings.  Or you can install a standalone license server.

  • Move the license to new server

We are biking on the old servers and you need to move the license vsphere from a server that puts us out of service to a new server.

I put the new Server clustered in Eval mode and moved all the guests to him. The old server has more no guests and is ready to be removed from the cluster, how to I release the license on this subject so I can apply it to the new server?

    Thank you

    Eric

Yes, you should completely remove it form your vCenter - perpendicular removed once the client vSphere ESX Server environment and close. Once removed, you can apply the license on the new ESX Server-

If you have followed the procedure to apply the license on the ESX Server properly - close off the vSphere client and reopen the client and the warning of evaluation will be gone

  • New server vCenter4

We currently have VirtualCenter2.5 on a physical server.   We will begin our upgrade to vSphere4.  The first step is to upgrade or install vCenter4.   However, our servers are all on the lease and the VirtualCenter server is off lease.  We receive a new server and I decided well enough just to install a new copy of vCenter on that instead you re-create the server VirtualCenter2.5 and upgrade.

Let's save our VirtualCenter database as well as the license server file.

Because we have the VirtualCenter2.5 server and our server replacement for a few days, my thought is to install vCenter on the new server, attach the file to the database and the license server.  Then, I think I need to recreate my environment again on the vCenter server to include presenting CF LUN again.  is that correct?  Or is there a better way to do it?

you won't lose any of your features.  Don't forget the features are based on licenses.  I guess that you only had / have business license with VI3, licensing will be the same in vSphere4.

With regard to your DBA, tell them just to make a backup of the complete BD and you will call them, if you need their help

P.S. see this snipit of vSphere Upgrade Guide

    On the upgrade database Wizard

The upgrade database Wizard updates the schema of the VirtualCenter database. The upgrade of database

run the Wizard after completing installation of vCenter Server Wizard.

When you perform an upgrade to vCenter Server, you must use a VirtualCenter 2.x database that is supported

    upgrade by vCenter Server 4.0.

The upgrade database wizard runs once you click on install in the setup of the vCenter server. The database

Assistant upgrade upgrades the database schema to make it compatible with vCenter Server 4.0. The schema

defines the tables, the fields in each table, and the relationships between the tables and fields.

If you upgrade VirtualCenter 2.5, the database upgrade wizard runs in the background. If you are

upgrading from VirtualCenter 2.0.x the upgrade database wizard appears, and you must complete the wizard.

The upgrade database Wizard does not level a version not supported in database (for example, Oracle 9i)

in a database that is taken in charge.

  • Upgrade virtual Center 2.02 VC 2.5 on the new server. Upgrade ESX 3.02 ESX Server 3.5. and add the new ESX Server.

    Hello

We are due to upgrade our VMWare environment. ESX 3.02 x servers virtual Center 2.02 and 3.  We have new material on which to install Virtual Center and we are also adding a new ESX Server.

I read various guides for virtual center upgrade and watched questions on the forum, but can not see everything that relates to the way I thought to do. I want to install Virtual Center 2.5 on the new server and I would refer her to the current virtual cenre database.  Is this supported?

I then install ESX 3.5 on my new ESX Server and add it to the virtual Center. Then I would start the upgrade / rebuild other servers using VMotion to migrate all VM the next server to be rebuilt on the new server running ESX 3.5.

    Would this work.

What is the best way to upgrade the virtual center of new material and a new Version?

Thank you for all the advice that can be offered.

    Kind regards.

Yes, it is an upgrade that is supported.  Don't forget there will be an upgrade for your DB schema and it may take some time.  Just make sure that you have a good backup of your DB before you start.

I then install ESX 3.5 on my new ESX Server and add it to the virtual Center. Then I would start the upgrade / rebuild other servers using VMotion to migrate all VM the next server to be rebuilt on the new server running ESX 3.5.

I agree entirely, I drive rebuild is the way to go.

Upgrade to the current version using the .iso image file.  Don't forget the license server, which is a standalone update and are located in the folder /vpx of the vCenter .iso

    Upgrade path:

    1 vCenter

    2 ESX

    3 VMware Guest Tools

  • Move Adobe Connect 7.5 to new server hardware

What is the process to move Adobe Connect to a new server hardware. We are running Adobe Connect Pro 7.5 (7.5.1.0.100) on a Win2K3 SP2 server. We would like to fly over Connect to a new server hardware running Win2K8 R2 (64-bit). The Connect database will remain on a separate Win2K3 SP2 / Server sp4 of SQL 2005.

Unless there's a problem, the NETBIOS name of the computer will be different. However, the IP address and domain name FULL will remain the same.

What is the recommended procedure to achieve this?

PS - Shortly after moving to new hardware, we are planning to upgrade to Connect 8. Is it better to upgrade first, then move to new hardware? Or vice versa?

    Hello

moving to new hardware is basically a new installation on the new server, and then passing on the saved content, and then reconnect to the database.

It makes no difference if you update first and then move material or play first and then upgrade. I play first and make sure Connect works very well on new hardware, and then upgrade.

Here are some steps which should work.

    1. make sure that your new hardware, OS and SQL Server are supported

    http://help.Adobe.com/en_US/connect/8.0/installconfigure/connect_8_install.PDF

    (7.5 check the requirements here: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatconnectpro/systemreqs/#proserver )

    2. make a backup of your current content directory and all custom configuration files.

(config files will be a reference to restore SSL or other changes, not just move them at once updated).

    3. make a backup of your database and make sure you know the login and the password for your SQL Server.

4 stop the services on the old server

    5. If moving DB, attach your DB Backup to the new host SQL.
    6. install Connect on the new hardware.

    7. do not start the services again, first restore the backup content.

8 start services, bring up the console and connect to the DB.

    9. check your settings in the console, a reboot may be necessary first.

    10. do not load the login page?

    11. follow the installation guide for step 1 for re - apply SSL config if necessary (in Connect 8 it is slightly different from that of C7)

Change the name of windows machine, may cause some trouble, not always, but it is easier to use just the name of the new material.

If this isn't an option, an entry in the DB conenct must be updated:

    http://kb2.Adobe.com/CPS/407/kb407446.html

I'm pretty sure that these steps will work, but can't test this and I don't know your exact environment, so I can give no guarantee that this will work. It is always good to simply moving to a new test equipment and if things go wrong, bring back the old system of support of production and contact.

    Good luck!

  • new server for hyperion

    Hello
I would like to know how can I know what latest patch I should go for (9.3.1, planning, SS, Essbase, Hyperion) or what should be the approach? I need to migrate servers from Hyperion and will install and configuration of the component of Hyperion.

Secondly, I know installation, config. backup and migration, but what test must run on windows 2003 R2 (I mean, do I need something like IIS for planning and I do not think that there is no need to do with the environment variable because it must create automatically at the time of the installation or can I use an existing environmental variable to create the new server.)

    Concerning
    Kumar

You only need IIS if you want EPMA, FDM, HFM...
If this is a new installation, then it will create all environmental variables.

  • Migrate to new server hides

I've been running server on an old computer and now I am a new and have completed the introduction.

I have many apps and installed OS cached on the old server, how can I migrate the cache on the new server?

    10.11.5 with 5.1.5 Server

    Two ways.

    1. If the new server can peer with the former, just run two servers for a while.  A new shoot gradually data it needs from the old when clients request it.  This method is best if the new server has already given cached which is not the old one.

    2. for a more immediate clone, stop two development servers cache, run this command in a Terminal on the new server, and then resume the new update server caching.  Replace the admin user with the name of an administrator account on the old server and old-server with the name or the IP address of the old server.

    $ sudo rsync - a - delete admin user@old-server: / library/server/cache/Data / / Library/Server/cache/Data /.

The sudo and the rear bars (after data) are important.  This command replaces the new cache server with the content of the old cache, assuming that the two of them store their caches in the default location on the boot drive.  If we use a different location, change the command accordingly.  Be sure to copy only the data directory and not all of the caching folder.
