New tab behavior

I inadvertanly did something to 12.0 Firefox. When I started Firefox tab '+' to add a new tab had moved from the right side of the tab bar to the left. I moved all of the other tabs to the left, but now the new tabs are created on the right side of the tab '+' and not the left.

I have no special additions for the tab and don't want everything - I want just the default behavior to return once again.

Thanks for any help

Oops! restarted Firefox again and normal behavior is back. My apologies if I've lost all the time. Am confused but happy.

The new tab behavior is driving me crazy. It keeps re-centering on legs closest to the top of the list when I move a tab. How can I change this?

I don't want to download an application. I would rather add a new string in any config or just change those there to false. It makes my life as a rather hard work, to be forced to go all the way back at the end of my list after you move a tab just to have to do it again. I mean it's to the point where I could consider changing browsers if they had tab scrollbars.

Edit: Now I will download any application. Please stop this stupid feature.

I downloaded the beta version and it stopped. Thank you all for trying to help anyway. I probably didn't explain my problem very well in the first place, but you tried to help him. Thank you.

  • Than return the behavior of Firefox to focus on a new tab empty? Not the same as opening a link in a new tab.

In previous versions of Firefox, when I open a new empty tab by CTRL-T or by clicking on the 'more' button on the tab bar, Firefox would focus on the new tab. This is not the case with Firefox 11, but I liked this behavior and want to get it back.

It seems to be different from opening a link in a new tab, which, at least for me, opened without getting the focus (I deselected the option to immediately go to the preferences of some time back, but the new tab behavior remained). I searched through the preferences and have played with the options in the tab, but empty came. Can someone point me in the right direction?

    Thank you!

As far as I can tell, it is still the default behavior and is not affected by preferences. Is one of your extensions may cause this problem. Go to Firefox > customize > addons and try to disable tabs in impact or the behavior tab.

  • Yahoo has hijacked my new tab

    Firefox v40.0.3, Win7 64-bit SP1 and up to date.

Somewhere, probably due to a recent software installation, Yahoo turned my new tab behavior and I can't have the tiles in new tab I could do before, when I create a new tab or a new window (ctrl-t or ctrl-n). I have:

1A changed the subject: config entry browser.newtab.url to about: newtab; It was www.yahoo.com.
2 deleted Yahoo in the list of search engines and ensured that Google was at the top.
    3. follow-up process to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customize-new-tab-page but I can't find the icon of the rack on the page new tab since I can't get a tab with the tiles (that is, I can find the new tab called commands on https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/hide-or-display-sites-new-tab-page).

I would really like my back tiles.

  • New tab page is not refreshed when I delete a site

I have two problems with the new tab page:

    1. The new tab page will not refresh when I delete a site. I can click on the [X] button to delete a site, but nothing seems to happen. The site remains on the new tab page until I have refresh or reload the page.
    2. Firefox restores all the sites that I delete the new tab page, the next time that I restart Firefox.

    Found the problem:

DOM. Storage.Enabled apparently affects the new tab behavior (bozhe me!)

I had mine set to false; Apparently, it breaks the new tab page. Changing to true restored expected behavior.

Would be nice if the entries in About: Config to http://kb.mozillazine.org/ included a description interconnected how change these options will affect/guy features in Firefox. (And while I'm wishing I join $ 1 million, a pony, and peace in the world). Is life...

  • How to change the new tab loading behavior

When I open a link in a new tab, that it does not load, I have to go to the tab, click the address bar and press enter before the loading of the page. How can I change this?

Probably an extension is the cause? Try to see if it happens in the questions to troubleshoot Firefox in Safe Mode, please.

  • If I have a small Firefox page I can not open a NEW page. He let me just open a new tab on the reduced page

If I have a small Firefox page I can not open a NEW page. He let me just open a new tab on the reduced page. I used to be able to open a new page in browser icon on my desktop, but for these last days, it won't let me. It is a desktop computer, running Windows 7. Everything is up-to-date.

Hi Deb, it's hard for me to test it personally because I've pinned the shortcut of Firefox to the taskbar, which changes its behavior, and when I remove it, I don't fit my desktop icon. (?!)

Anyway, as a temporary workaround solution while we sort out this point, you can use the 'Skip' list: right click on the Firefox icon in the task bar and choose 'Open a new fenΩtre' that should certainly generate a separate window and not only a new tab in the existing window. Normally works?

Firefox has a hidden setting that you might try to change to see if it makes a difference. Normally, when you open a link in another program, it opens in a new tab in the last window of Firefox, that you used. Your what's doing? I propose changing the setting so that the link must open in a new window to see if it has an impact on this problem.

    (1) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config and press ENTER. Click on the button promising to be careful.

    (2) in the filter box, type or paste link.o and make a pause so that the list is filtered.

    (3) double-click the preference browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external and set its value to 2 and click OK.

The possible values for this preference are as follows:

-1 = follow your settings in the Options for new tabs vs new windows (default)
3 = open external links in a new tab in the last active window
2 = open external links in a new window
1 = open external links in the last active tab replaces the current page

There are a few other similar named preferences, so be sure to change one that has 'external' in the name.

    Any difference?

  • Set page really empty new tab

I have Firefox 42.0b1. I'm on the beta channel.
Some time before, I started to see this "new tab page" with some of the Web sites I have visited.
In previous versions, I was able to disable this terrible change browser.newtab.url to about: blank.
But this no longer works. Instead, FF now has a button "gear" in the top right of the page to the new tab, which I can click to simulate a blank page.
But this is not the behavior I expect. I don't want anything to be charged. No code, no graphics, no junk, no nothing, just a page empty and fast.

My question is: is there a way on Firefox to have a completely empty new tab page?

In Firefox pref browser.newtab.url 41 disappeared. This pref was abused by malware so frequently that Mozilla has decided to remove this pref to eliminate this kind of diversion.
You will need an extension like this one to restore.
    https://addons.Mozilla.org/en-us/Firefox/addon/new-tab-override/

Or to have your home page as the new tab page, try this extension.
    https://addons.Mozilla.org/en-us/Firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage/

If you're using Classic theme restaurant, go to the options of CTR > general UI (2) and set your preference for the new tab URL there.

For Super Start , you can use the topic: superstart page.

  • Open a new tab does not work

Yesterday the + tab opens a new tab when you click it. Today, it doesn't. New tab file does not work either. I use OS X El Capitan. I really want to use FireFox as my browser - it's much faster than Chrome. But I'm not going to open a new window every time I want to start something new.

Continue the behavior mode without failure of Firefox? https://support.Mozilla.org/en-us/KB/troubleshoot-Firefox-issues-using-safe-mode

If Yes, then we can rule out assorted settings, Extensions and themes. Next step is probably malware analyses, but I don't know what scanners are good for Mac OS.

If not, then it is time to start weeding the themes and Extensions 1 by 1 until the culprit is found.

  • The new tab button has been hijacking

I've updated Auslogics Registry Cleaner. Companion Web of Lavasoft has been automatically downloaded and installed on my computer. He seems to have changed Firefox: whenever I try to open a new tab, the search engine Bing opens automatically in the new tab. I was able to stop this behavior by removing the choice of search engine Bing. Now my home page opens automatically in the new tab when I click on the + to open a new tab.

I was not able to delete the Web Companion of my computer: their uninstall program that crashes!

How can I correct the problem in Firefox with the new tab?

    Thank you.

  • Search works do not and when I right click on a link to open it in a new tab, it does not work either.

The other day, I noticed that my search box stop working. Even when I go to options and click on search, it will not be open to the top of the tab to the search options. Today, I noticed that when I right click on a link, it brings up a long list of options, but the only one I want to work is the "Open link in a new tab." Unfortunately, it does not work. I ran Spybot, Malwarebytes and Microsoft Defender and what malware, they found, it does not solve the problem. I even tried Firefox in Safe Mode and updated, but still questions. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, this is probably because something on your system has crushed all providers default search in firefox. to recover it please download and reinstall firefox to https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ on top of your existing version.

Since it is a behavior often caused by adware on a system, please also run a scan complete of your different system with security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner.

  • creation of new tab broken

I had an event where the first time I realized that I had a problem was a page that asked me to complete the installation of an addon that I didn't. The addon in question had set my setting of the home page and default search from Yahoo as well as the substitution of the page engine new tab. I removed the addon, value return my homepage default and changed my search engine back to my preferred option of Bing. After that, whenever I tried to open a new tab, it would show an odd address in the address bar and the resulting page would be empty. I read on someone else on "subject: config. How can I fix this my copy of Firefox show will return to its default behavior as what is shown when I open a new tab?

You can use this extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ - which resets a bunch of prefs and then the extension will disappear. Among the Mozilla developers to solve problems you encounter.

  • Why is the update after a CTRL + T (new tab) on the search (instead of address bar) bar in newer versions?

I got all the 'browser.newtab*' in: config by default in my firefox (38.0.5) - (except "browser.newtabpage.enhanced" + "browser.newtabpage.introShown").

When you open a new tab using CTRL + T (on older versions of firefox) has been emphasis to the address bar - which made a lot more sense to me that you can immediately begin typing the URL. Since the last update (version 20 (Heisenbug) Fedora) emphasis is placed on the search bar, so when you type something I find myself looking from ' subject: newtab "page which is really annoying (another CTRL + L needs to first set the focus on where I expect it to be).

This change happened on purpose? If so - is there a way to go back tho old behavior?

Or is there sth wrong with my version of Firefox only and the default behavior is still ok?

    thx for the tips,
    Andare

In short, if you have the Tile tabs extension, either upgrade to the latest version (13.1) which is supposed to fix this or turn it off.

  • How can I return search box in a new tab? When I open a new tab, it is only to show the address bar.

When I click on + to open a new tab, this tab shows only the address bar, no search box! This problem is created suddenly. Previously, this problem, when I opened a new tab it shows google search box and the address bar. Now, the address bar of the new tab worked for both page looking box and address bar.

I followed: config process and it's worked. But, when I start my computer after a few more hours I see this problem! What can I do? Please tell me.

I have attached a picture of your understanding.

I wouldn't try a reinstall immediately. An ordinary reinstall often not made the changes that it would bring.

user.js file will be a small file in your profile and contained text. If copy you and rename user . txt or user.js.txt it will be readable by any word processor, even if Notepad can open it is.

Paste the content in your next reply. He can give us some clues as to what is happening.

In fact the user.js file will change behavior of Firefox and you want to simply rename temporarily; instead of renaming a copy; in order to disable and see what happens.

Just another thought the usual options used for newtabs

    • Subject: white - it's a plain blankpage, no bar to search it.
    • Subject: newtab - currently by default has a search bar and the tiles
    • topic: home - a search bar and some settings icons etc

You can try one of these out by typing in the address bar Subject: House or whatever, (or try on: subject).

It is has two troubleshooting steps simple which will help, but you don't seem to have tried yet.

First, try fashion without failure of Firefox.
For example, in now the SHIFT key when you click the icon to start Firefox

The second interesting to try procedure is to create a new additional profile for test purposes. Which erases most of the settings and not be affected by file user.js or interfere with your existing settup. You get the choice what profile to use when you start Firefox.

  • bookmarklet lendle previously opened in a new tab, now it does not work. How can I force it open in a new tab again?

Previously, when I clicked on the bookmarklet lendle fx would go me to a new tab and open the appropriate lendle page. I liked it. FX now opens the lendle page in the same tab. How can I force it to open it in a new tab?

-J' have the add-on open all bookmarks in a new tab.

-It worked before I installed the module TMP (Tab Mix Plus) and it opened in a new page with TMP installed too. I have now deleted the Add on TMP due to a decline in big performance on this module. TMP is a Devourer of cpu and memory.

-bookmarklet lendle has this code under bookmark properties

    javascript:var array=document.URL.match(/amazon\.(.*?)\/.*?\/.*?\/(.{10})/);if(array==null){alert('This bookmarket works on Amazon.com Kindle book pages, and redirects you to the same book\'s page on Lendle. Please visit a Kindle book page on Amazon.com and then click this bookmarklet.');}else{var x=window.open('http://www.lendle.me/books/detail/'+array[2]);x.focus();}

-J' checked my answer on https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1060711configuration settings. My config is:

       browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external -1
       browser.link.open_newwindow 3

    https://support.Mozilla.org/en-us/questions/1060711

He has this pref to override the behavior to open a link in an external application.

       browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external

If this pref is the default-1 browser.link.open_newwindow is used.

The meaning of the value of the browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external is the same from browser.link.open_newwindow

       1:current tab; 2:new window; 3:new tab;

       http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.link.open_newwindow

Those setting means that you redirect window.open() all calls to the current tab.

You must set the browser.link.open_newwindow 3 to open links in a new tab.
