  • Windows Vista will not install new updates after installing SP2

Hi, I have a problem with the update of my windows. It started after a fact a factory reset. Here's the history:

I have a some what old laptop (8 years). It came with a Vista installed with service pack 1 installed at the factory. Over the years, I did a few factory resets (every 2-3 years). I never had problems up to now. What is happening now is that I can not exceed SP2. I tried two different ways, none of them worked. After the reset, I first uninstall a bunch of stupid programs that came with the laptop, and then defragment and then have two ways to proceed. I tried to use windows update, installed more than 100 updates, updates install held until finally I offered service Pack2, installed successfully but then no more updates were offered. Then I tried a different approach - a new reset, uninstall, Defrag, and then downloaded and installed SP2 directly from the Download Center. And again the same thing happens. From the SP2 installation I check updates, download the new update agent and nothing happens after that. He keeps looking for new updates all day (about 50% of the processor by using all the time).

I read some articles and discussions but could not find anyone with the same problem (most of the users reported some error codes which is something I can't do). I tried the fix tool - it does nothing! Whenever I run it, it is mistakes - sometimes 2, sometimes up to 5. Sometimes, it makes account all fixed, other times that it reports missing or corrupt files do not set. Whatever the results if I restart and when I try to check for updates again it is still the same story.

Also I tried to install it manually IE9 as soon as SP2 is installed (I understand that this is not supported under SP1) but the installation fails. I expected to be available in updates, but as I don't get updates I tried to install it myself. Not sure if it's related (although I guess it is), but the Defender is not able to verify new definitions either.

Any suggestions? Maybe the registry is damaged or some of the files using the update agent is are corrupt? There are currently no antivirus program installed that could block whatever it is. I haven't touched Windows Firewall somehow everything must therefore be attributed to the default values.

You understand is that? I came across exactly the same problem... restoration of an old book to give to a family member, and every time I came to the point of installing SP2 and a more recent windows update agent just after, I couldn't install more updates. It would block 'check updates' forever. Tried twice, same problem. However, I tried some things differently the third time and exceeded the question.

Let me know if you still need help, and I will respond with what I've done.

  • Attempt to install custom software and update Windows install.

original title: windows installer install problem 3.1

I use windows vista home with service pack 2 installed. I have a custom made software. Before installing this software, I need to install 4 i.e. cystal reports, dotnet, report viewer and Windows Installer 3. I was able to install the first 3, but the windows installer fails, it is said to be "saturated". I also tried MSI 4.5 but of no use. My software runs well on Windows XP. Can anyone help.

Installation with Windows Vista version is:
    Windows install 4.0
    Version - 4.0.6000.16386
    Released with Windows Vista

Windows Installer 3.0 is released with Windows XP SP2. It was released as a redistributable.

You can download Windows Installer 3.0 Redistributable from the Microsoft downloads site, but it has not been created to run on Windows Vista. It will probably give an error message that you have a newer version installed.  You may need to change the program to look for a different version of Windows Installer.

You may be able to install the software in Compatibility Mode.
If the program is not compatible, then you try to install and run the program in compatibility mode.
    Use the following steps:
    (1) right click on the program
    2) click Properties
    3) click on the Compatibility tab
    (4) select run this program in compatibility mode and select Windows Vista or other operating system, the program has been run successfully.

Check out the link here: make sure to run older programs in this version of Windows

    I hope this helps.

  • Error 80070103 updates Windows installing drivers for laptop HP keeps repeating

    I have a HP dv7 laptop with Win7 SP1 (64-bit), 6 GB of RAM and all updates.

Recently, I received another set of 3 that are specific to the hardware of my HP laptop.  I checked, and 2 other Microsoft and proceeds to their installation.  2 Microsoft installed OK, but the 3 which are for hardware of the laptop, failed.  (Update the Intel driver for another liaison WiFi, Intel - hardware and Realtek network card) The screenshot is (the center of the 3 lines):

I right click each of the 3 defective items and screenshots are:

I then right click on the line with the text: [Code 80070103 "Get help with this error"]

and got this message for all 3 screens.  I enclose you one of them, because they are the same:

A few hours later same updates Windows 3 reappears and I installed them again, this time stopping at the antivirus and anti-malware programs.  There was no difference - I had the same failed installation attempts.

I would very appreciate advice, suggestions or recommendations on how to make these updates of Windows installed properly and successfully.

    Thanking you in advance.

You should be happy that they're fail because generally, it is never a good idea to accept installation hardware (audio, video, network), drivers offered by Windows Update.

If you look on this error page:

    https://support.Microsoft.com/en-us/help/10164/i-got-an-error-code-from-Windows-Update

    It is said:

If you receive Windows Update error 0 x 80070103 while installing updates, you might be trying to install a driver is already installed on your computer or a driver that might be less compatible that you have already installed.

Microsoft does not know what are the best drivers for your system and you should only get updated hardware driver of your WWW site of system manufacturers and only when you know that the update may solve a particular problem.

There are many topics where people blindly install all the updates that are available from MS, then the find something on their system which suddenly ceased to behave (audio, video, network).

If you see these hardware driver update offered by Windows Update, that is better right click and hide them so never see again you them.

You can read this topic where I described how to keep MS you offer hardware driver updates in the first place:

  • Windows Update / Windows Install Error code 80070641 and 641

I use a Windows vista Home Premium SP2 OS and having this problem for a few months now... and the difficulty (which continues to work for me) came from Support by Email from Microsoft.

I just had the problem (11 Windows updates wouldn't install) still ONCE and this fix worked... again... Although I still don't understand what changes the Windows Installer-related registry entries.  If someone knows a logfile to inspect to find what causes the registry changes, please let me know!

I'm below insert a link to the thread where I posted the fix Microsoft Email Support gave me.

In addition, I am trying to determine what is the cause.  I wonder if Iolo - System Mechanic Professional could be the culprit.  If someone is facing this problem... and running System Mechanic Professional Iolo... Please you sound!

In addition, you may have to restart after you import the "Installer.reg" file in your registry... at least I had the last time I had this problem.

    Best wishes

    @meteor242 (Rick)

You need to do one more reg fix to restore the association Reg in Regedit.

(This too was zapped by System Mechanic).

    These are for VISTA systems<>

Download this file from Ramesh S http://www.winhelponline.com/fileasso/regfix_vista.zip

    Save it to your DESKTOP.

Extract the contents to your DESKTOP.

    Click Start, type

    REGEDIT and press ENTER key

from the main menu, select file

    then Select IMPORT

Access the dialog box (click the icon on the DESKTOP on the left to select)

type regfix_vista.reg in the file name text box and click on the Open button.

Once the merger is completed, you will see a confirmation message.

Click OK when finished. Close regedit.

  • Update Windows 7 endless, searching for updates

    Running Windows 7 Professional SP1.

Try to download and install Windows 10 through the tool, it never downloads.  After a further inspection, Windows Update had the red X and says that he had not been updated.  After several discussions and solutions proposed, including the use of the patch tool (by using the https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/910336 page) but also to delete the files in the Software Distribution folder.

Other attempts have me using the DISM tool and manually stop/start/restart the Background Intelligence Transfer Service and Windows Update through the administration tools.  Currently able to search for updates, but it exceeds an eternal "check updates".  Still can't update to Windows 10.

If Windows 7 have problems to find updates, causing heavy CPU or RAM with the Svchost.exe process, use the reason that Windows Update could not automatically update the Windows Update Client.

in this case, you must download the update manually, it's the latest version at the moment: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3138612

  • Updates Windows - installed but the versions are not updated

I was away for a week.  Booted up my laptop.  Any updates, click on it to install it.  He failed.  Judge again. Failed.  I rebooted, updates came and installed successfully.  I have a program that checks the versions of the outdated software and it shows that several versions of Microsoft software are up-to-date.  By example, one, is IE11.  When I go to IE11 it shows the old version.  I click to manually install the update, KB3087038, but it says it is installed.  I haven't checked all the other updates - but they are NET Framework, Excel, Windows7, and Media Center, of which most were in the last update of windows.  I don't know even how to check for the latest version on some of them.  How can I know if my system is really updated or correct this problem?

    Hi Donna,.

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I imagine the inconvenience that you are experiencing and will certainly help you in the right direction to solve the problem. However, I would be grateful if you could answer a few questions to refine the question in order to provide you with better assistance.

    1. Have you made changes on the computer before this problem?
    2. You get the error message?

The question may arise if the Windows downloaded update packages are corrupt. So, I would suggest trying the following steps and check if the problem persists.

Method 1: Run the Windows Update troubleshooting tool and check if that helps.

Open the Windows Update troubleshooting tool

If the problem persists, try the following method.

Method 2: See the additional steps provided later carefully and check if that helps.

  • Unable to update windows install not accessible, also arresting installation of Skype and Webcam live messneger

I had to reprogram my computer on Saturday, I had limited success running the fix tool that allowed me to get most of my updates including service Pack 3. He says it is fixing my Installer, but it doesn't. I restart and try to finish the updates, .net framework 3.5 or something. No luck, so I'm going where I'm done and always end up with the same fix it tool. I've been going in circles for two days. The OS is xp home sp3. I got CCleaner where he was at fault. I have run the fix it tool at least 12 times now. The installer is still inaccessible, and I worry about playing with my registry to be honest.

For the moment, I can't download live messenger or Skype. Suffice to say that my Installer is damaged or inaccessible. Please help me, I'm really at a loss here!

    3. click on create a new account.

    4. in the new account name box, type a name of single-byte characters, click Administrator, and then click on create an account.

    5. click on the user account that you created in step 4.

I have a desktop with Vista CAREB.  It has always worked well until about June 11, 2012.  Now it does not connect to Internet Explorer. It says it is connected to the internet and that has been verified by our server.  Tried everything and eventually restored it and no problem.  Then the next day, same thing and restored.  Next day same thing so I disabled all updates and no problem.  What new update windows made in the last few days which is the cause and what can I do?

    Thank you

We cannot verify that Windows Update is causing the problem, I suggest to install the Windows updates one by one and make sure that Windows Update is causing the problem.
