New Windows 7 Installation takes up 120 GB

I just built a new computer for my cousin.  The specifications are the following: Intel Core i7 - 5820K (base 6), 64 GB of 2133 DDR4, Nvidia GeForce GT 740 (4 GB GDDR5) and a Crucial MX100 512 GB SSD.  When I finished installing Windows 7 Professional (64 bit), the hard drive was about 120 GB of space had been used.  How is that possible?

I have not dealt with before SSD.  Is there something that needs to be done differently when installing Windows?  The formatting of the disc size is 476 GB.  I want to install updates now and the available space is 345 GB (I have since installed the drivers for the motherboard and card chart).  If anyone has any ideas, your contribution will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Follow the advice of Gerry to see what actually happens.

With a default installation of Windows 7, this amount of space is almost certainly mainly caused by size generated by the system to your pagefile (pagefile.sys) and the standby file extended (hiberfil.sys).

Windows sets the initial minimum size of the paging file equal to the amount of RAM (RAM) installed on your computer and the maximum size equal to three times the amount of RAM installed on your computer. If you see warnings at these recommended levels, and then increase the minimum and maximum sizes.  (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/change-virtual-memory-size#1TC=windows-7)

Hiberfil.sys is always equal to the amount of RAM installed.  A tower computer probably don't need to Hibernate so you can disable this feature--> https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/920730?wa=wsignin1.0

You can find almost any desired response regarding the size of the page file when using large amounts of RAM and an SSD.

  • New Windows XP installation disc required?

I have a plu Sony notebook comes with pre-installed XP Pro and I would perform a clean reinstall of the operating system. Restore disks from the system that comes with it (no Windows disk was provided) force the partition from the C: drive to a maximum of 15G (for some reason any) with the rest of the HD (60G total) space assigned to a logical drive D:. In addition, the recovery process reinstalls the original beam of s/w that is now mostly obsolete and unnecessary. That leaves very little space on the C drive for additional applications and many of the old Sony uninstall apps causes system instability.

If I could just re - install Windows XP on a single partition without all other garbage, I'm back in business. But, I can't seem to find a way to get a new copy and license of Windows XP (there are a lot of fakes out there, but I'm not interested).

The computer does not have a sufficient memory for Windows 7 and I have a few important apps that does not work under Vista, so what, if any, options are available to me?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

If your computer has an i386 folder, then you might be able to try this procedure.

  • Install Windows 7 installation compromised by Linux

Yes, I don't know, a major mistake - the entire disk has been formatted & erased by installing Linux (Linux announcement). In addition, another Bobo was not a Windows 7 system image. The only good thing I did was to back up my personal information, files, documents, etc. on DVD. None of these service options (Windows or HP repair boot-cd) work because the recovery files have disappeared.

That said, I wonder what are my options for Windows 7. The tower is a HP Pavilion Elite since 2009. He is no longer under warranty and the HP website, they offer is no longer windows complete recovery disks. Options I see there is only this - buy a new Windows 7 installation disc. Even that is questionable because he could not work on an exclusive HP machine.

I have the product key Windows of the tower. Who can help to restore an installation of Windows? I typed the product key in a Microsoft page to download a new iso image of Windows 7, but naturally, he said that the key was a source property and to communicate with the manufacturer - as I mentioned, is that any help.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

    Ben

In fact, manufacturers are responsible for preinstalled OEM licenses. It has been so for a long time. Part of the reason, OEMs make significant changes in their configurations with a myriad of options, it would be impossible for Microsoft support hundreds of configurations out there.

  • How to make Windows 7 32-bit to 64-bit without the new windows installation 7

32-bit to 64-bit without the new windows installation 7

Moving from 32 bit to 64 bit Windows 7 always requires an own (custom) installation of Windows 7.

Since this is a clean install of Windows it takes you will need to backup your personal data (documents, pictures, music, etc. on a separate drive). You should also make sure that you have installation media, and product keys available to reinstall your programs.

Most, but not all Windows 7 32-bit programs will be running on Windows 7 64 bit. Check the support of publishers of program site compatibility.

32-bit and 64-bit drivers are not interchangeable. You should make sure that your hardware has drivers 64-bit available.

  • "Stop 0x000000A5 the BIOS of the system is not fully ACPI-compatible every time as the installation of a new windows 7 integral over Inspiron 15R N5110.

    Hello

I have installed Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on many brands of laptops, but when I installed it on Inspiron 15R N5110, (core i5 and 4GBRAM). I faced an error at startup of windows 7 after completing the installation.
NOTE: When the installation finished and restarted my computer, this window shown to me.

Two options from the two options above I chose, I found myself with the blue screen:

Error blue screen said something these ' BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI-compatible. Contact your system provider for an updated BIOS I don't know what that means and I don't know where is the culprit. I wish I could capture this error screen. However, it is impossible to do because I wasn't the Windows environment.

Even if the error related to BIOS necessary for the update, so how could I update as long as windows has not begun.

Is there something that needs to be configured in the BIOS before installing Windows 7 on Dell laptops.
I'm quite surprised that the previous system was windows 7, but it was Home Premium.

The strangest thing is when I tried to start to repair the disk and even disk instillation of Windows to resolve startup problems, I found that this startup repair couldn't fix problems.

When I tried to do these steps:

    1. Insert your Windows XP CD into the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer from the CD.

Note Some computers may require you change basic input/output system (BIOS) settings before you can start the computer from a CD-ROM. For more information about changing the BIOS, see your computer documentation.
    2. When the "Welcome" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
    3. If your computer is configured to dual-boot or multiple boot, select the appropriate installation of Windows XP.
    4. When you are prompted to do so, type the administrator password and press ENTER.
Note By default, the administrator password is blank in Windows XP Home Edition.
    5. By default, Hiberfil.sys is usually located in the directory root (C:\). At the command prompt, type del hiberfil.sys and then press ENTER.
    6. Restart the computer.
When I arrived at "system recovery options, I saw that my system is listed, then I chose then, but I found myself with this ' this"system recovery options"version is not compatible with the version of windows that you are trying to fix." Try to use a different compatible with this version of windows recovery disk, even if I'm sure only that the same disk to install windows I have installed since.

NOTE: I do not add RAM or other devices. There is a windows 7 Home premium and I just re installed a windows 7 ultimate 64-bit. I don't really know what the previous windows version 7 is 32 or 64 bit.
I checked the dell forum and I found ' your computer goto your BIOS F2

That goto advance Select ATA to instead of AHCPI save the setting, and then try to restart your Windows 7

    hope it will work. »

But he did not AHCPI, but I found AHCI and let ATA instead of AHCI, but no difference that happened.

    Hello

Check the steps suggested by LoneWolf1983 from the link below and see if it helps.

Warning: Be careful when you change the BIOS settings. The BIOS interface is designed for advanced users, and it is possible to change a setting that can prevent your computer from starting properly. BIOS update should be made only if necessary (to solve a compatibility problem, for example). It can be a complicated process, and if an error occurs, your computer could be rendered inoperative. Be sure to observe the instructions of the manufacturer.

    Thank you very much

I checked this thread, and I found this solves the problem

I have changed the serial port in the BIOS for 2F8/IRQ3 and I have not had a blue screen since... fingers crossed, it's her!

But as you know that no matter what BIOS are different from others.

Thus, I have not found any serial port in the BIOS to be replaced by 2F8/IRQ3

NOTE: My problem is when you install a new version of Windows.

In addition, every time a new windows installation 7 and facing the Blue error screen, I started to Macrium Rescue CD and clicked "fix windows startup", and then when restart my windows, I was not facing the the Blue error screen. If windows starts successfully.

If the blue screen error was tied to the BIOS, the Refelct Macrium rescue CD wouldn't no matter what (not know this problem)

  • Where can I get a Windows Vista installation disc?

My old Acer laptop crashed about a year & a half.  I bought a new laptop.  The other day I plugged it to see what would happen.  He came & the guest a insert the Windows Vista installation disc.  Where can I get this drive?  Windows Vista came pre-installed with the laptop, so I do not have a disk with him.  Acer does not know because the laptop is out of warranty.  They told me to take the laptop to a computer repair shop.  Well, I don't want to spend that much money to find out what was on the laptop when it crashed.  Any suggestions?

    Hello

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

As you never received a recovery disk when you bought your laptop Acer here is how to use the internal recovery Partition command which must be...

"How do I restore my computer using the eRecovery Management program outside of Windows?

    http://Acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/A_ID/2631

    To start the system recovery:

    1. Restart the computer.
    2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the left Alt and F10 keys.
    3. If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows splash screen, press the Enter key.
    4. etc.

And if you have problems with the help of the Partiiton of recovery and Acer supplies more recovery media for previous models preinstalled Vista, you may need to use this method:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:
