Newly converted Virtual Machine Windows 2003 contains no hard drive

I'm looking on the advice of this problem.

I used vConverter 4.0 to transform the four physical servers to virtual machines.  Two of my attempts ended in failure.  One was a standard Server Windows 2000 running as a web server. He just cut to 3% or 4%. Let this old trash server at the moment.

The second is a Windows 2003 Web Edition Server.  The P2V process actually all the way!   But I can't start. I discovered that the physical server C drive was not there?  When you change the properties I see only one hard drive (it would have taken to 10 GB and 20 GB) it seemed to me that if the configuration in the setup of P2V has been misinterpreted?...

Initially, I made it clear that the 51 GB drive C and 74 GB - D drive should become a 10 (only use 4.8) and a 20 GB (only 11.5 GB used).  Instead, I found myself with a huge 72GO disk in the virtual machine

In this fourth attempt, trying now not to tamper with disk sizes and rely solely on provisioning.  And there is room for the 51 + 74 GB of disks on the ESXi host expected they exploit the full potential.

But it really intrigues me I get a different result that I opted for in the configuration of the P2V.

No explanation?

The server in question is from the disks IDE and a legacy mainboard with an old Pentium 4 processor - not really a server.  On the other hand I have converted two physical successfully servers, just until I came across this problem. It was 12 to 14 years old Compaq DL380 G1 servers with SCSI disks.

I think part of the problem is that you cannot change the type of IDE SCSI controller (it's in step 3). You can try the following steps, but if it was me I would just start the conversion, resizing disks you want and ensure are using a SCSI controller

  • Converted to a virtual machine (Windows 2003)

    Hi @ all,

I tried to convert a virtual machine (Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition) since an ESXi 4.0.0 Server for our new Cluster (ESXi 5.1.0). After 2 hours of waiting, the process failed at 1% with ' error: event.» DiskCloneFailedEvent.summary ".

ESX server and the virtual machine are in the same network.

Two weeks before I tried the same Conversion, but had to stop due to a colleague, who needs the machine urgently. At the moment the State of conversion was 9% and I think that he would have been success.

Here are the logs of the converter and I hope, someone can help me with this question:

Exactly, it's a common error.  It is always recommended to clean the source server if the conversion has failed or been arrested before

  • Installation of Windows 2003: cannot find hard drive during the installation units

    Hello

I found a strange question here...

ESXi 4.0 installed on DELL R710 with 2 processors E55xx.

Then we try to install a virtual machine with Windows 2003.

The installation cannot continue because the virtual machine cannot detect the disk (virtual disk).

Are we have to use specific drivers (as the old way install Windows Server 2003 on the physical, press F6, and then insert the drivers for drivers, etc2)

    Please advice...

I have attached the error and the configuration of the VM

For Windows 2003, the default controller is the parallel of LSI Logic. For this one, the drivers are already included in Windows 2003.

  • Destination area has VMware player 3.1.4. Not possible to run a newly created virtual machine.

For the first time, I tried to virtualize my machine using VMware vCenter Converter Standalone. The destination machine has VMware Player installed 3.1.4, so I chose, as a destination having VMware 4.0.x instead of VMware 3.0.x as 3.1.4 overflows 3.0.x. The newly created virtual machine does not under VMware 3.1.4. Is there anyway out of this except can create an another VM using VMware player 3.0.x as the destination machine? Thank you.

Then, you should be able to simply create a (empty) virtual machine with VMware Player 3.x and then just remove the blank virtual hard drive (hard files) and replace it with the one created with VMware vCenter Converter.

  • Different drag / drop behavior of the mouse on different users on the same virtual machine Windows 10 Pro accounts

I just upgraded to 8.1 on Mac OS X 10.11.3 Fusion "El Capitan" on a new iMac 27-inch 5K retina. The guest operating system is a new virtual machine Windows 10 Pro. I have two user accounts on the virtual machine, my local administrator account and another account local standard user. When I am logged into my account, I am able to drag and drop files to and from the guest to the normally Mac OS. As the mouse moves freely between the guest OS and the Mac. However, when I connect using the standard other account, I can't drag - move to and from the guest for the Mac OS. Also once I click into the virtual machine the mouse movement is limited to the virtual machine until I have press the buttons on the Mac to free the movement of the mouse to the Mac. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the vmware tools but the same behavior persists. Any ideas on a solution and why these two users accounts would act differently?

Just phone with the help of VMware. They solved the problem in uninstalling and reinstalling VMware tools and change the following VMware Fusion preferences-> preferences-> General-> Gaming: to 'Never mouse optimize for games '. It has been set to 'always optimize the mouse for games '.  After that drag & drop, mouse movement works smoothly and perfectly now. Thank you VMware support!

  • Cannot ping virtual machine Windows 7 vm Server 2012 [Server R2 2012]

    Hi all

I'm not sure that this is a vmware workstation or server 2012 r2 problem, but I would still ask thought.

I have a 2012 r2 vm server and win 7 vm in a ' host-only: a private network, shared with the host country "network connection.

I can ping the server vm win7, but cannot ping the ""Server the VM win7 ". "

But when I point the win7 dns on the server 2012R2 (that has AD and DNS configured) I can join the virtual machine Windows 7 announcement.

    Its totally weird

Whenever I try to win7 from the ping server, it says "Request Timed Out".

Does anyone know how can I fix?

    I'm using VMWare Workstation 11

    Thank you

    Hi Requiem88,

Just to be clear, you press the Option key on the keyboard key then went in the Virtual Machine menu at the top of the screen and choose Force Shut Down who?  Looks like you force quit in the menu Apple have rather choose.  Force quit will put end to VMware Fusion, while the option Force stop menu stop permanently from Windows itself.

    See you soon,.

  • Why do I see virtual machines Windows 7 x 64 in double after the upgrade to Fusion 6.0?

Join support information.  Would rather have only listed here.  The two seem to shoot to the top of the virtual machine itself.

According to the information of the single bundle media of entries in the library of the Virtual Machine Windows 7 x 64 is actually a Virtual Machine.  So delete that which is not actually start a Virtual Machine.  (Council: Ctrl-click on the object and select Delete.)

How can I transfer all my system windows on a new hard drive

    Hello

There are different ways to do

hard drive manufacturers will normally provide the cloning software to move your operating system installed from the old to the new hard disk

Search for information on this subject on their Web site

If you have vista business or ultimate, you can use the builtin vista complete PC Backup to move

    read the information below

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial145.html

or if you have vista home version you'll need 3rd party software

link below is an example of this:

    http://www.Acronis.com/homecomputing/products/TrueImage/index.html

also to put your machine how you bought, if you decide in different ways:

    1. If vista is preinstalled, you should have a recovery on your old hard drive partition

You can recovery disks to reinstall on your new hard drive

ask the manufacturer of the machine how

    2. contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

    3. or borrow a microsoft dvd vista

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

Save all data, because it will be lost, do the above

The OEM of Windows 8.0/8.1 license is related to the motherboard and not the hard drive, so you can reuse the new hard disk provided his will in the same computer.

About the old drive you need not to worry about the formatting as the old disk can never be reused. If you want to be sure, you can physically break the old disk with a hammer before throwing.

Use Windows 8.1 media tool on another PC to prepare Windows 8.1 with updated installation media 1:

I'm considering buying an SSD and want to reinstall windows from my original hard drive (there is only a recovery partition on the original hard disk and no drive of the Windows operating system).  Anyone can guide me through the process or do I buy a new copy of Windows.

    Hello

You can create a recovery from your old hard drive disk, or you need to contact HP technical support and order the part or click on the link given below on a command line drive by yourself.

  • How can I empty the Windows installation on my hard drive?

How can I empty the Windows installation on my hard drive, please?  I was going to re - install, then I changed my mind.
Now, every time that I reboot, instead of launching Windows XP Pro, it try to run Windows installation.  The installation program appears as a second menu item under "Windows XP Pro" on the black screen at launch.

How can I remove it from the startup screen and flush it out of my system?

    Any correction, automated for this?

    Thank you.

It is difficult to determine what you did, but the symptoms you describe can be eliminated by editing the boot.ini file (you can also make things really difficult if you make a mistake when you edit the boot.ini file, so be careful).  Will not be "flush out the Windows installation" of your system, but it will stop the menu from appearing at startup time.

    See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/289022

Your boot.ini file probably has a second line in the [operating systems] section.  Make sure that you delete only the line that points to the installation routine.

  • Windows 7 computer portable HARD drive connected to a professional XP S3

Windows 7 computer portable HARD drive connected via USB to a desktop XP Professional SP3 PC.

PC shows the folders, I have access to the folder of Photos, but cannot access the Documents folder where files I need. I tried to share the folder, but it does not work.

    Any suggestions please?

Probably, this can be corrected by taking possession of these files / directories.  Once you do this, however, you will find probably your permissions in disarray try to re - install the drive in your computer to Windows 7...

Fake phone calls to technical support

Calls unrequested telephone of this nature are almost always a common scam. Do not let them give any info, do not give access to your PC, not give them all the money and do not go to all the websites that they suggest. One moment.
