HELP linksys wireless USB adapter: (model # WUSB54GC) "acquiring network address" not actually connect to the internet! ?? Windows xp pro

Hello. Ive been at this for 4 days now, I can't find a solution. I'll try to remember as much as possible regarding what ive tried.

here goes...

long story short, due to unfortunate system errors, I have reinstalled my OS XP home to xp pro. PC works great now! problem is... now my wireless adapter wont connect to the internet.

When I had xp home edition installed, I could just plug in the adapter, and a few seconds, it would connect to the favorite network. (with all settings on Auto) no problem.

now that ive put in OS, it's just cycling "absorbing the network address" infinitely...

his watch the access point, the preferred network, showing the signal strength and do not show errors in Device Manager. right-click and choosing fix do not work. It gets stuck @ renewing IP address scene. its not send or receive packets under status.

He EXPECTED to be functional? It uses a 10-digit WEP key.

Ive tried both the linksys wireless monitor and the windows zero configuration utilites.i since removed the lynksys software screen because it never worked anyway. WZC is that used to work on xp family.

I used " ipconfig/all" to determine the values of the network on the host pc. I tried manually punching in those values (IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS settings, according to the suggestion of a networking of friends) on the adapter wireless itself; using tci/ip options. still does not connect.

Ive tried different USB ports, all that seems to do is to change the number of the wireless connection.

It just does not connect to the internet.

I have the driver I need for this after contacting linksys. I also disabled windows firewall and the firewall/antivirus of 3rd party associated with the network.

He knows questions w / windows xp professional and this particular wireless adapter? (WUSB54GC) that's the only reason why I can think of that is not connected.

what I forget? internet hard wiring of an ethernet port is not an option because there is no ethernet card installed in the pc.

any help is greatly appreciated in advance.

Thank you.

Sorry it took so long for me to return.

It was a setting under working group which had to be adjusted from reinstalling windows. (something that has been disabled I forgot, don't remember what it was since its been like 3 weeks)

that he got the running dhcp... That is to say. allowed 4 dependence to work progrmas, boom, problem solved.

the adapter now works with the automatic settings, using WEP encryption. as it should, and it was.

Thank you very much for the replies, I appreciated the help.

It is likely there is no wireless driver, but the drivers of the USB chipset at fault. You could try Vista Compatiility mode for those.

    Hello

If you try to connect your printer to the router, you should make sure that wireless Direct is trurned to offshore. Direct wireless is a feature that allows you to connect a device directly to your printer without router (the printer generates its own wifi)

Please turn off direct wireless (it's often a button on the front panel) and try to connect again.

I have included a link below for you rprinter support page that contains the user guides that should help also.

  • Unable to connect to the internet! Help?

It stopped working a few days ago and contains the symbol of the triangle. He says its a unidentified network. When trying to troubleshoot it, it says 'Connection to the Local network' is not a valid IP configuration or she can't identify the problem at all.
    What I tried:
-my computer stop and wait 10 seconds as it says
    -restart my router
    -put manually the IP myself
    -go in safe mode
-then some other random attempts to get it to work

You must go about it methodically.  To help you do this, we need to know how your computer is connected to the Internet.

Because you talk about 'Connecting to the Local network' and your "router", it sounds as if your computer is connected to a router using an Ethernet cable.  What is the brand and model of the router at the other end of this Ethernet cable?  If you please, look at the label on the back or the bottom of the unit and include the brand, model and hardware version, if any.

Is this router connected in turn to another device or it be plugged into an outlet on your wall?  If you connect to another device before you plug it into the wall, please give the version of make, model and equipment, if any, of the other device.

You pay for your own Internet service, or connect to a network by a school or a business?

I guess that you do not use this computer to ask your question here.  How is the device you use to ask your question connected to the Internet?  In other words, you use another computer or Smartphone connected to the same router?  If Yes, is it connected by Ethernet or wi - fi?  Or are you just using a smart phone and its cellular data connection?

Basically, you need to determine if the issue is (a) on your computer, (b) in the connection between your computer and your router, your router, (d) (c) in the connection between your router and the Internet (which includes internal and external cabling, server of your ISP and other things all out of your control).  Given the answers to the above questions, I can suggest some tests that will help narrow down where is the problem and then what to do to fix things.

  • NB200 can connect to wireless networks, but cannot connect to the internet

I could connect my Win XP netbook to my network wireless secured to the House, other networks and public networks such as the library and McDonald's. This week, I am away from home and discovered that while I can still connect to a number of different wireless networks, I can't connect to the internet with Internet Explorer.

I had this problem once before and fixed by reinstalling Windows XP and all my other software. I have no idea why it happened again. I'm hoping for a less radical solution to the problem... ?

    Hello

You can try to renew the IP address.
Got to RUN and type CMD.
This would start the console (DOS window)

Here, you use the command: ipconfig / renew

It s also advised to update the Wlan driver. I've noticed some problems with older drivers for Wlan

  • Problems with wireless USB adapter. Icon missing "Wireless network connection".

I recently got a laptop HD malfunction cause me to start my PC from 2004. I bought a Belkin N150 Wireless USB adapter to connect to the internet connectivity. During the installation, I do not get a "Wireless network connection" icon I am running Windows XP SP3. I installed the same USB adapter on a computer running Windows XP SP2 and it works fine. I plugged it in my desktop PC and it just doesn't work! Even with my router disconnected I should still be able to see other networks WiFi available in the range (I live in a community of apartment) as he worked on the other computer it elsewhere too. I double checked the drivers, reboot the cable modem, so that appropriate services were activated and still no dice. I have read forums and I'm almost at the point of paying MS for technical support services, but it's really just my last step before I shell out money for professional help. Notice to lovers? =)

    Hello

Well, at this point, you should make an executive decision.

If you think that someone will take just guilt because it's comfortable, it is not going to happen.

If a new card that is known to work does not work, then you can try to re - install Windows.

One of the differences between computer enthusiasts and regular users is the availability of the material. I have a set of wireless router, network cards, etc. that are known to be good.

The components are used for the sole purpose of trying them temporarily on the troubled computers to rule out hardware problems.

  • Unable to connect to the Internet via a Linksys Wireless card

I used a Linksys BEFW11S4 for several years with no problems.  A PC is connected via a network cable and the other (Dell laptop) used a wireless adapter Linksys that plugged into the laptop (model of Linksys WPC11 ver (4).  All my computers using Windows XP with the latest service packs.

I plugged the Dell laptop to the router via a cable to transfer files faster than the network B.  Then, when I disconnected the cable and reconnected the wireless card, I was unable to use the Wi - Fi connection to connect to the internet.  Wired works very well, is not wireless.

Windows reports a good wireless connection to the router, but the machine is unable to connect to the internet using the wireless card.  It can connect to the internet when using a network cable, however.

Pings what either using the Wi - Fi connection failed (expired).

I used another laptop (a more recent Toshiba with a wireless card built-in) to connect to the router and it works very well with the connectivity wired or wireless.  No problem switching back with this machine.  So, the problem is not with the router or the router configuration.

I was through the forums and seen a LOT of people seems to have the same problem with these Wireless Linksys routers.

I tried to use the Easy Link software to configure the machine, but: (1) Linksys updated web site is not valid, and (2) with the www.linksysfix.com/ela site that directs users to the software is also invalid.  Linksys technical support seems to be lacking.

I went to the usual network setup menus and two laptops seem to be configured the same way, again, we're working wireless and we do not.

I would appreciate solutions others have tried and who has worked with this problem.

I reinstalled the drivers for the Linksys card and it does not work.  Windows recognizes the new hardware card, reports that it is connected to the router, but still no internet connection
