  • NB 100: How - top connection Orange UK mobile broadband (usb icon 225 stick)

I just managed to get my connected nb100, here's how:

Step 1 - enter the SIM card - instructions provided with the device

Step 2 - upgrade of the network manager

#Right click the icon of your management network at the top right and select "about". If it is less than 0.7 (such as mine) upgrade is necessary.

    #upgrade to the network manager > = 0.7
    > sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

#add the following at the end:
    > main deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/network-manager/ubuntu hardy
    > deb - src http://ppa.launchpad.net/network-manager/ubuntu hardy main

#save, out, run Manager Update, install updates and restart the computer. If the Network Manager icon is not present - stops completely. Should appear after turning back.

Step 3 - install the driver OHSS and ozerocdoff
Locate and download the latest version (1.9 in my case) here: http://www.pharscape.org/forum/index.php?board=14.0

    > cd Desktop /.
    > tar zxvf ass - 1.9.tar.gz
    > cd hso_26 - v. 19.
    > sudo apt - get install build-essential
    > sudo apt - get install linux - headers-'uname - r '.
    > do
    > sudo make install

    Locate and download ozerocdoff
    > cd... /.
    > tar zxvf udev.tar.gz
    > cd udev /.
    > sudo make install

    Step 4 - configure connection
Right-click on the network manager, and then select "Edit connections" > mobile broadband. Change the listed connection and insert the following code:
    username: orange
    password: orange
    APN: orangeinternet

When you plug your icon 225 it must connect now.

When you want to disconnect, pull the icon 225... I tried to use the disconnect on the Network Manager option and my laptop crashed...

Feel free to copy and improve this howto.

I have a portable Hassee W230r with a tsst ts-l632h DVGW DVD player.
Recently, the DVD drive is not burning DVDs or write data on DVD discs.

Sometimes it sucessfully writes CD, other times it fails, especially when creating audio CDs and t plays most of the DVD (although sometimes he jumps about 5 minutes before you load the CD and DVD)

I can't find a driver for it, and to be honest Im not sure of time I should be using a driver, or "firmware".

  • Need tech help. : restore or partitions, filesystems, etc..

This question is for gurus and SanDisk tech support.

I bought a Sansa Clip today and in learning to use it with my Linux (Ubuntu Hardy Heron) system, which is all messed up. I ended up using a partition editor under Linux to completely clean the clamp, then give him a MSDOS disklabel, a single partition covering the memory of 1 GB of this Clip and formatted this partition as a FAT32 file system.  However, as you can guess, this was not good enough.

I can always connect the Sansa Clip to the computer and can partition and format (file system format) the Clip, but I hope someone can tell me exactly how many partitions to create, size, what files must be placed in the walls, what should be the names of files. Basically, I'm putting back the Clip in usable state through the understanding of some of these technical issues. I'm a computer user experienced enough (Linux and Mac only, not a lot of experience on Windows, sorry) and am not afraid to try anything. (That's why I messed up the Clip so bad.) :-)

I tried many or most of the troubleshooting steps mentioned in this forum, but this problem is beyond their scope, I guess, because my Clip gives me still a message of error "not enough space for music DB" when it is disconnected from the computer, even immediately after deleting the partitions on the device and creating one or two new partitions (I tried to create 2 one as a partition of 16 MB (, FAT16 and later in another attempt a FAT32).

Anyway, if anyone with a technical mastery can suggest what to do, he can help me and some other forum readers who like me are somewhat technically the inclined and capable, just clueless on this cute little particular device. :-)

There is no sophisticated Linux users here on the forums of SanDisk, it would be a big favor if make you a picture of the memory of your Sansa Clip using the dd program the command line in a terminal and then available this picture of me and possibly others who intentionally or unintentionally (but for what they thought were good reasons) their little Sansa Clip hose. OR, perhaps, the good people in technical support at SanDisk have a utility to restore the partition/system files-files/system or a disk image? (hope, hope) :-)

    -Steve

Have not yet heard from the SanDisk technical support, but as so often happens when people post problems in the forums, I finally managed to solve my problem in spite of the lack of help.

SO, for all Linux users who may have a SanDisk Sansa Clip and are having problems with it, here's a brief overview of the problem and a solution.

How to restore a watered Clip

I recently bought a cute and tiny Sansa Clip 'MP3 player '. Hardship of editing under Linux (had old firmware), and after consulting various online here and at UbuntuForums.org and AnythingButiPod.com forums, I have read many reports that said the same thing: the firmware update, or if all else fails, reformat the Clip.

I downloaded the SanDisk "Sansa Updater" application and tried to run the program only Windows under Wine (Windows emulator) under Linux. No luck; suspended program. Then -before I discovered we could manually update the firmware - I reformatted the flash memory of the drive with gparted, a partition-and-filesystem-format-from-scratch program under Linux. It was before I learned that "reformat" on the forums mean 'use the command 'Format' of the element. Stupid me!

Yes - The Clip is so useless, a cute little plastic brick next to the computer. I contacted SanDisk technical support (still have not heard from them, a few days later) and wrote messages on all the forums begging for help.

As is the case several times, I ended up helping me. I've done some research more and I tried a lot of ideas. One of them worked. The solution consists of two parts.

    Important note
Before you try the following steps, if your Sansa Clip has not been completely rendered useless yet, you can use its own settings of--> Format command to reformat the Clip. It's easier and better, and then you can update the firmware manually (see the forums of SanDisk or AnythingButiPod.com forums for versions of firmware), or using the program "Sansa Updater.

How to get a useless Sansa Clip works again

    1. Reformat Sansa Clip flash memory and install a FAT32 file system. You can reformat in Linux using Gparted, but the Clip still won't work because the Clip wants the exact settings that Windows uses when it formats a blank disc. However, reformat the Clip in Gparted will serve to ensure that it will not work absolutely nor be recognized by a Windows machine. So go ahead and this once if you wish. Then connect the Sansa Clip USB2 to a computer running Windows or Vista. Then use Windows File Manager (Windows Explorer) to try to open the drive letter of the USB Windows detected device. Windows will give you an error message saying: the drive is not formatted and offer to format it for you. Choose the FAT32 file system and uncheck "quick format". Then let Windows format the Sansa Clip flash memory.
    2. Once the Clip is in the Windows format, delete ('remove hardware safely' icon in the system tray, then unplugging the USB cable). Then go to SanDisk.com and download the "Sansa Updater." This application is update the firmware for the Sansa Clips that are already working, but believe it or not, it can also completely restore the firmware and de-structure of directories and files including the Clip needs to run. After downloading and running or installing the update for Sansa, close the program. Then reconnect the Clip on Windows. It must be recognized and the Sansa Updater program may start automatically. If not, then find the Sansa Updater in the start menu, run it and follow its instructions. It will get your Sansa Clip, then download the latest firmware, then restore your Sansa Clip used-to-be-there's no need to Virgin State, approved, fully updated that works very well with Ubuntu Hardy Heron and even now supports OGG and FLAC!

Best wishes to all. Hope this helps other users to Sansa Clip.

  • desktop to go - not suitable for my use of HP Mini 1000 Mi

Not tapping on my Asus 901 Hardy Heron no xp. My Mini 1000 Mi arrived an hour ago. Update Manager is running. I put e-mail and installed Firefox Add-ons that I prefer. By doing these simple tasks, I noticed that the MIE Office will seriously interfere with my use of the Mini 1000 Mi. I want to use a desktop Ubuntu Hardy Heron based due to how they place on my desk, programs and files, I use every day. However, MIE office moves from one to the other more difficult for me, more laborious. I'm probably as a user may be that HP designers had in mind when you profile the customer waited. Anyway, before you start using my Mini for tasks related to work, so before entering crucial data installed, I'll try to find my way to a more traditional Ubuntu desktop. I searched this compartment of the forums and didn't find a similar lament. My hunch is that other users of Mini 1000 Mi (Ubuntu) want to escape at the interface of the BREAD, then perhaps that HP will soon offer a non-MIE as a standard option interface. Meanwhile, my research to find out how to have a traditional Ubuntu desktop should start. Suggestions of appropriate links would be appreciated.

A USB key loaded with wiped the HP "Ubuntu" Hardy Heron and Hardy Heron 8.04 has been installed. Initially, wifi is not working, so I connected via ethernet, which worked well. Then update ~ 250 packages have been downloaded and installed. WiFi still did not work, so Admin > system > network leads to tweaking of WPA and a hexagon of 64-bit something or other. All of a sudden, the different sources of wifi (passworded and open) being found and reported by my Mini 1000 Mi now running Ubuntu Hardy Heron. Wireless is followed correctly. Mail has been sent and received. I loaded more recent Flash Player and the latest in Adobe Reader and have the tools I need and now the office... Also, the sound works by the speaker and via the combined. Overall, do these tasks took about 4 hours.

  • T61 died after plugging video attempt.

    Hello

My T61 just went dead suddenly and completely when I tried to connect a vga cable to the video port.

I plugged the cable, the computer gave a small beep and went completely black and dead and will not start or show signs of life.

It was running on battery in time. Since then, I plugged the power and removed the batteries and still no life.

The cable is a cable of the adapter that is connected to a port on a video converter vga / vga Pro V2V. This unit was not turned on at the time.

I hope that someone will tell me that my machine is not toast. Googled for the problems involved and searched the forum but found nothing relevant.

    Running Ubuntu Hardy Heron.

    Thank you

Unplug your battery and power, then press your button on ten times in 3 second intervals, while the last press should be 15 seconds. Now, plug everything back and see if your laptop starts again. I hope that the motherboard did not get fried due to the discharge of possible static electricity when you undertook the VGA connection.

Otherwise, you may need to send guarantee, if you are out of warranty, you may have to consider sourcing your MB or get a new laptop.

  • The judgment of the guest linux OS kernel debugging

I am investigating the closure of a linux kernel. I use a system Ubuntu Hardy 32 bit (slightly notched) running under VMWare Workstation 6.5 on a host of Vista 64 - bit Windows (x 64 Vista's environmental standard for all developers here).

I read VMWare provides support for debugging, but I couldn't find any hard information on the extent of this support and how to set up. One of the difficulties I face is that I have to be able to debug the core sequence start/stop, which involves (or may involve, depending on the details of the platform) switching briefly return to real mode... If I understand correctly it tools as kdb and kgdb aren't able to debug across of switches in mode (they protect-mode kernel tools)

I hope that VMWare itself can use its the hardware virtualization to provide debugging assistance (is that how replay debugging works?) - But how?

    See you soon,.

    Daniel.

You can try a more modern gdb from Linux or Linux VM machine.

  • M6300 color LCD Temperature?

    Hi all

I am running Ubuntu Hardy Heron on a laptop of precision M6300 with 17 "LCD screen.  I want to photo editing and the need to adjust the color temperature of the LCD screen.  It appears in blue compared to my other monitors who have set to 6500 K color temperature, so I think it's fixed to about 9300 K.

I could not find anywhere I can change its color temperature, as you can with an external monitor.  Is this possible?  How?  Thanks in advance!

  • Derives from extreme weather on Linux hosts

The most common solution to this problem is to disable NTP and install Vmware-tools. However, this is not an option for me, as I have no X server on my guest.

I've added the following kernel parameters:

clock = pit nosmp noapic nolapic

I disabled acpi on the host. I disabled the frequency of scaling on the host.

Host is a quad core Ubuntu Hardy 64 bit running. Guest is redhat running 32-bit. The host clock gains five minutes, comments of the gains of the clock 1. As the client is a mail server, time is critical. A combination of the above has solved the problem of the clock on most of my guests, but it remains an illusion.
