  • HP Envy23: Start Menu button does not work

The Start Menu button has suddenly become unusable. The Home icon has been replaced by a sheet with the icon corner folded, and in a hurry, I get a message saying "the drive or network connection that designates the shortcut"Start Menu.Ink"is not available." Tried a couple of these corrections online and made sure everything is up to date.  Everything works well, except for this menu. Any suggestions?

    Hi there @Quetzle53

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support! It's a good place to find the help you need, other users, the HP experts and other members of the support staff. I understand that the start menu works correctly for you. I'm happy to help you with this.

If this just started to happen, it may be a good idea to start with a system restore, if possible. See the following link Microsoft showing the various recovery options in Windows 10, including system restore.

    Recovery in Windows 10 options - windows.microsoft.com

First try restoring, and then if it does not give a shot with the System File Checker. The following link is a very complete description of this command and how to use it. The command SFC - run in Windows 10 - tenforums.com

Afterwords to test and see if the normal is restored. If this isn't the case, then try the reset method described in my first link.

Let me know if it works for you. If so please mark this message as a solution. If this is not the case, let me know any other details that you can, for example, error messages or other symptoms that you notice.

    Hello

    1. what changes have been made to your computer before the problem?

Follow these steps and check if they help.

    Step 1:

I would say you rebuild the icon cache and check if the problem persists.

    a. press the keyboard Windows logo key combination + R to bring up the Run dialog box.
    b. type cmd and press ENTER to open the command prompt window.
    c. in the command prompt window, type the following commands pressing ENTER after each line:
    Taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
    attrib-h "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
    del "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
    Explorer.exe

    d. this restart Windows Explorer and rebuild the cache icons as needed.

    Step 2:

Test the issue in a new user account.

    Hi Rehman,

    ·         Did you change to the computer?

    ·         What is the antivirus installed on the computer program?

    ·         The start menu is empty?

    ·         Other user accounts have the same problem?

Check to see if the following is useful.

Method 1: You can run the Microsoft Safety Scanner to check the infection by the virus. Check out the following link to do so.

Microsoft Safety Scanner - free online tool for PC health and safety

Method 2: Check to see if this article helps you to the question of the desktop icons.

Method 3: Log on to another user account and check for the issue. If you do not have another user account and then create a and look for the same thing.

  • After that I did a system restore to get rid of antimalware doctor, I now have no desktop or start menu.

I did a restore of the ordinary system, and when he returned to reboot, I have no icons the desktop or start menu.  This blank desktop happens in normal startup and in safe mode.  When I try CTRL + ALT + DELETE and then go to run explorer.exe, it does nothing.  When I reboot the computer for about half a second before it closed, I see the desktop icons.  I can't change the users because there is only one, I have not a system restore disk, it's on.  and my registry for explorer.exe looks right to me... anyone know anything else I can try before I take it to a store and pay for a fix?

Also, I went through the instructions on this post: http://preview.tinyurl.com/answers-microsoft-com
but none of this has worked. So, I don't know what to go with it now.

    Thank you!

    Belia

You can try another system restore from a Safe Mode command prompt window:

"How to start the System Restore tool by using the option of safe mode with the command prompt in Windows XP"

You can also try to create another user starting mode safe mode with a command as user administrator prompt and enter the commands:

NET user bob * / add
net localgroup administrators bob / add

Where 'bob' is the new username.  You can then try to connect as 'bob '.

Icons or shortcuts should be in this folder:

Symantec Endpoint, Microsoft Security Essentials, or AVG will find viruses or problems with the computer. I spoke with the technology of Windows and he sent me the link to this page.
I've never seen anything like this.

    b. now, click on Folder Options to open and select folders and hidden files (dot).
    c. open a Windows Explorer window.
    d. go to C:\Users\(User Name) \AppData\Local
    e. right click on IconCache.db and click on delete.
    f. click Yes to confirm the deletion.
NOTE: This deletes the file to the trash. It is safe to empty the trash when you are done.
    g. close the window.
    h. emptying the trash.
    i. restart the computer.
    j. When you come back, you will notice the size of the file IconCache.db is reduced, and the update is now the current date.
NOTE: If for some reason, IconCache.db isn't there or the size has not changed, then you can just restart the computer again. You may need to restart a few times in some cases.

  • Tung-E2 downloaded V4.1.4e desktop has no Media button

Tungsten E2 download V4.1.4E Desktop has no media button:

Here is the instruction manual - but the new download v4.1.4e doesn't have a Media button! What should I do?  It gets tricky reinstall an older version of the operating system. Or - should I try to reinstall the 4.1.4e.

Windows: Use the media application in Palm Desktop to transfer pictures and videos to your handheld.

On your PC, open Palm Desktop and click "Media".
Use the button add media to add photos and videos to your handheld.
Perform a HotSync operation to transfer the elements of your handheld.

    f2kapr,

Whereas Desktop 6.2.2 installation allows you to resume the media conduit and the Viewer, you need to know its installation will remove lines to the expense, Notepad, VersaMail, not events classified by color, birthdays or anniversaries in your calendar will display and will remove any kind of customization (skin) you have previously enjoyed. You have to balance it with your desire to have the media conduit.

Many users tend to add media to their device by renouncing media operate entirely (there was some "problems" with the transfer of larger files, causing the Office locked) and manually add photos, music and video to the SD card via the burner/reader of their computer SD cards to access their device.

Photos should be placed in the folder DCIM creates your Palm, while music and video can be placed in the folders created. While not as 'automatic' as a HotSync, it is often faster and more reliable.

Meanwhile, there is an alternative to installation quick, accessible by selecting the desired file > right click > Send to... > Palm Powered Handheld (a shortcut for "instapp" in the Palm folder) in 4.1.4e or 6.2.2.
