No more server in vSphere license?

I was installing vSphere in workstation and noticed that I had the ability to specify an "activation code"? Can someone explain how this works?

In addition, with the profile of the host, does that mean I have install my first host ESX with custom directory sizes and settings appropriate, as vswitches... etc. and then when I install my next host ESX I just apply the custom profile, I just created?

vSphere4 is allowed by "activation code" now rather than using a file server/license in VI3.

OK, you can applly the profile of any other host ESX bring you in the cluster.  I only it used beta version somewhat, but I'm usually the IP address of vkernel and the rest of the profile has been automated.  Profile of the host no longer usable in Enterprise

  • How to remove the server from vSphere VI3 licenses 4?

    Hi all

In the application of the license of our environment vSphere 4, I always cited the old server license VI3. Since we do not use it more (whatever it is has been upgraded to vSphere 4 a long time ago), we have disabled and therefore vCenter complains somewhere in the newspapers not being able to communicate with her.

However, I couldn't find an easy way to remove it from vSphere licenses... Does anyone have an idea?

  • VSphere licensing issues

The license is very clear on the vmware Web site.  Could someone tell me what the TOTAL licensing costs would be to run a hypervisor on a machine with the following configuration:

Dell PowerEdge R910 4U rack server

Four Intel Xeon X 7560 eight 2.26 GHz processor
    256 GB of RAM - 4 x 800 GB SSD SATA - PERC H700, Dell iDRAC6 Express, four PSU

By using the Vsphere client to manage.

So, what would be the ADDITIONAL cost if we added another server, just like it?

    Thank you!

    Hello

vSphere is licensed per socket. So for your server, you will need to purchase licenses vSphere 4.

price depends on the edition you purchase (standard, enterprise, enterprise +)

You will also need to pay the annual subscription fee in order to open calls to technical support and get the major updates to the new vSphere (as from 5.X to 6.X) versions.

Each additional server must be licensed in the same way, by socket.

Also for managing more of a server and make use all of the cool features of vSphere, you need to allow a vCenter server, which is licensed by installation.

  • vSphere Licensing

I am a student doing a project where I need to develop a virtual infrastructure. I chose VMware since I am more familiar with their products.

The project includes two sites and a total of 15 people. In the beginning, I chose the vSphere Essentials Plus kit. I have 2 servers on the main site and 1 to the other site. I was going to buy an additional vCenter of license and 2 licenses SRM server. Basically, with the configuration of the infrastructure with the ability to replication on the other site and raise all reviews virtual machines on the server in the other site as a form of DR. The more research I do, the more I see how it is not extensible in the future. I also wonder if it is still possible given the licensing restrictions.

I did research on vSphere standard edition because I believe that it is probably a better option. I have a few questions about how the licenses work as this edition has more factors involved.

From my research, this is what I have gathered.

vSphere Standard edition with basic support is $1715.72 - is that physical price by UC?

I would also like, more than one instance of vCenter (1 for each site). Do I need to purchase a license additional vCenter, or y at - it a pack containing 2 licenses?

In addition, in order to have the capacity to DR, would need RS. Do I need 2 licenses of MRS?

Is anyway to get the price for all this? I was not able to find the price of the additional licenses.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Hi Welcome to the communities,

you need a single vSphere Standard/ORL/Ent + per socket/physical CPU license, Yes.

About MRS. you should take a look at vSphere replication. It is included in all standard vSphere licenses and of better quality. Perhaps it meets your needs, as a SRM license for up to 75 VMs would cost about $7000, I think.

As you said you are a student, you're doing this project for a University? You may get lower prices then.

I would contact the commercial service of VMware for the best info:

  • Can of POS used with Vmware vCenter Server 5 Standard license

    Hello team,

    Accroding to http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2016565

WTP is supplied with vSphere Essentials more and more.

I searched but did not meet solid information where he explains when licensed some don't need us to buy additional licenses for new features / applications, etc.
I'm new to Vmware licenses hierarchy. We have Vmware vCenter Server Standard 5 license.
Please point me to a URL that contains the hierarchy of Vmware licenses .

    Thank you much in advance.
    Niraj

You can use vCenter Server Standard 5 licenses for POS. Everything we have features such as (profile of HA, DRS, FT, VDP, host, DVS etc.) you don't need to worry about the virtual server license Center. You must use the correct license vsphere host. But don't forget to think about some virtual server edition Center can handle some vsphere hosts.

vCenter server 5 Essentials can manage only vSphere Essentials Plus or vSphere Essentials.

vCenter Server Standard 5 licensecan eat only vSphere vSphere Enterprise and vSphere companies plus standards.

You can activate the functionality of POS with vSphere Essentials Plus then you will need to use vCenter server 5 Essentials. If you use vCenter server standard for vSphere Essentials Plus so it give error or warning for violation of editing.

  • Can not get the eval of vsphere license key

    People,

Successfully, I registered for an assessment of vSphere with operations management and got my license key "VMware vCenter Operations Management Suite 5.7. When I try to apply this key to my vCenter Server I get the error "license error: 5" "Diagnostic message: not found license file ' (see image). I get this error even when you try to apply this key to my 5.1 ESXi server.

(Moderator note: capture with screen a.p. deleted license key!)

I KNOW the license key is not for vsphere, but rather for Operations Manager, but How can I get a trial for vSphere license key? Is it possible to apply the license key that I got to vCenter or should I install the vCenter operations Management unit and apply this license key for this server? The procedure to apply my evaluation license key is NOT FACT CLEAR in all the documentation I've found so far on the assessment of vSphere.

Could someone PLEASE provide a definitive statement on how to use my provided evaluation license key (see picture) and how to obtain and to correctly apply an evaluation of my vCenter Server license?

    vmware_vsphere_eval_license_2013-06-28.png

I would be very grateful for any help.

    Thank you.

Some products require a key for evaluation and others do not. vCenter Server and ESXi running in eval without key mode, but vCOPS requires a key.

You can use the license on any installation that you like, as long as ensure you that each license is used only once. What you need to do to be completely compatible with the EULA - if you want to use the license with your current configuration - is to install the production environment without adding licenses (i.e. run in eval mode), then migrates virtual machines, withdraw the licenses of pre-production systems and add them to the production system. It is not necessary to republish the keys or something like that, the keys remain the same.

  • vSphere Licensing 5.1: rights of vCPU

    Hi all

I wonder about the rights of vCPU by vSphere edition.

In the standard edition, the right of vCPU is 8.

    Does this means:

    (1) VM can have max of 8 socket with 1 core per socket

    (2) VM can have max of 8 shooting BUT the number of per-socket basis may be more

I m having some VM that requires up to 16 cores, can the standard adjustment of vSphere license or do I go for a business one?

    Please specify this.

    Kind regards

    Valentine's day

The number of vCPU refers to the total number of Sockets/virtual cores. With a payment of vCPU-8, you may have either 8x1core, 2x4core...

  • What version of vSphere/license is for me?

We have a physical server with 2 x Intel Xeon E5-2640 (eachwith 6 x 2.50 GHz) CPU & 96 GB of RAM. We would like the server to run ESXi 5 and hosting 4 virtual machines.

I think that 'free' ESXi V5 allows us only to affect up to 32 GB of RAM (for all virtual machines?). Therefore, looks like we need to buy 'VMware vSphere Essentials Kit' - but I think it does that of 3 guests, max 2 processors/host & 192 GB of VRAM.

We have 4 guests - is possible to buy 2 kits of "VMware vSphere Essentials" for the same physical server? If not, what version/vSphere license do we buy?

    Thanks for your advice.

Can you please clarify what you need? 4 VM 4 ESXi hosts (or both)?

If it's only 4 VM on the host, then you are right, you must e.g. vSphere Essentials and must also deploy a vCenter Server/Appliance, because the right to vRAM (6 x 32GB) is pooled by vCenter Server.

  • vSphere Licensing Model

    Hello

Can anyone help me please with the vSphere licensing model. For instanace if I buy 1 vSphere Enterprise Plus license then how many ESX servers can fit into this license. And let's say I have 4 ESX servers with 2 CPU (6 cores) each how vSphere then Enterprise license more what I need to buy?

In addition, vSphere Enterprise license more contain the vCenter license as well?

Any link, the document about the license will be really helpful

    Thank you

    Mohammed

    > For instanace if I buy 1 vSphere Enterprise Plus license then how many ESX servers can fit into this license

1 ESX with 1 CPU (multicore).

    > And I have 4 ESX servers with 2 CPU (6 cores) each how vSphere then Enterprise license more what I need to buy?

    ESX 4 * 2 CPUs = 8 licenses.

    > Also, vSphere Enterprise license more does not contain the vCenter license as well?

VCenter should be purchased separately but a vCenter is enough. You don't have to buy an another vCenter if you want to buy a few new ESX licenses.

  • vSphere license and ESX 3.5 servers battery

    Guys,

I have a client who is not ready to upgrade to vSphere but must add another server to the farm of ESX 3.5. We told by VMware that they must purchase a license vSphere and then downgrade to 3.5. Then add the server to the farm.

Does anyone do this? Exactly how would that work? What is the best/better way to do it?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Yes, they can spend to return vSphere licenses. As we have already mentioned, technically, you can continue to use these two licenses, doubling the number of servers, but it is against the license agreement. You can use vSphere license or license of 3.5, but not both at the same time.

  • Server 2008 R2 license can be extended to Server 2012?

    Hello

Has been polite, but better to ask you guys. Currently, I have a Server 2008 R2 on i7 license. Now if I'll still upgrade should I cash in for another license just to have the 2012 Server?

Second, my 2012 Server R2 Enterprise license will be upgradable Datacenter?

Yes, you will need to purchase another license for the new version of Windows Server, even if back business to the data center. It is easy to upgrade, but you would need a new license.

  • 5 vsphere license keys will work on vCenter 4.1?

My attempts to record the vSphere license keys 5 on vCenter 4.1 failed with the message "License not found error 5 license file.

Anyone have any idea if this is due to the difference in versions (ie the vsphere licenses 5 on vcenter 4.1)? or is it perhaps something else?

No, the keys do not work.

You must connect to Vmware and manage your license, do a downgrade. (you can do an upgrade later)

You cannot use both licenses at the same time.

A license of Photoshop Elements is good for Mac and Windows, it should be just a matter of download the Mac version and using your serial number to activate it.

    Hi, people.

After having been very well for a few weeks, now I'm unable to access my server from vSphere client, I get an error of:

So I think you must restart these services as vivari said.

If you are unable to log in via ssh, you must have access to the consoles. Then, you can restart the services or enable ssh to do via ssh.
