No reliable WiFI connection from / to my Microsoft Surface

After a reboot of my Surface I can see other computers on my home network. After a few minutes the connection is lost (even if the Internet connection is always good) and I am unable to find the device without having to reboot again.

I noticed that this problem was reported by a few people, but I have not yet be able to find a solution to this. Until I can get a reliable connection between my Surface and my development PC, I am unable to test my apps Windows 8.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As you can see from the date of the original post that I've struggled with this for a while, but finally I solved the problem!

The cause of all these problems was the router! It seems that BT Home Hub 3 and 4 have great difficulty, discover the network. After trying a different router connection to the Surface is immediate and without problem.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my requests for assistance.

    Hi Sajid,

    Thanks for the reply.

There is no option/feature to share the internet connection between computer and mobile. As Ramesh, said that you will need to install any third-party program or app to perform the task. As I see you have answered in the response of Ramesh with the third-party application names. We recommend not all third-party programs for the task you are trying to run.

This question of provenance in this thread: http://answers.microsoft.com/thread/b7916ba7-3e34-4ee2-a6e7-bba2fa65508b (title: "HELP!") Driver issue Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter (error code 31)").

Basically, the presented solution it works for me too. However, the command "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode = ban" does not get persistent, thereby affecting

"stop wlan netsh hostednetwork" gets persisted, however.

'do not command netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode = allow' does not get persistent...

In other words, current enforcement in exactly ONE time orders-Admin-helps prompt - as soon as I wake my machine to sleep after running it, the WIFI connection gets restored quickly (less than 5 seconds); but when I check the status with "netsh wlan show hostednetwork", then the result is that the mode is set to "Authorized" again - and that means, the next time that I wake up the machine, it takes ages to new (~ 30-50 seconds) before connections WLAN gets implemented...

Does anyone know how I can get the mode = do not allow to persist?

Another fact interesting, that I found before I was running on the solution by using the NETSH commands:

If I change the ' password on the reactivation of the "option of energy saving"require a password (recommended)"to"Don't require a password", it's okay, about the period of time it takes to establish the WIFI connection after wakeup (in other words, even without the NETSH commands described in this thread).

So, from my point of view, it seems to be that something related to security (probably in association with this kind of things hosted network).

The problem: disabling of "Protection of password on wakeup" is not a solution to everything, for me personally, as I am quite often on the road with my laptop, and I want to be sure that the data on my laptop is not accessible without unlocking the screen, in the case where the unit would get stolen or I loose it somehow... to protect all customer and other data sensitive data to this topic...

Any professional entry of someone at Microsoft to finally have a solution for this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Win 7 crashes when you use multiple wifi connections.

    Hi Shinmilla,

I have a problem with Win 7. How did it crash the system when you use multiple wifi connections. How can I stop this from happening?

    Thank you.

    Hi Triode888,

It is not recommended to have multiple Wifi connections since signals can be contradictory and therefore it crashes.
You can't have several active Wifi connections at the same time.

Also, I suspect it might be caused by your network wireless itself. It could be automatically connected to a network of 'death '. So please check that your wireless network is disabled or no if you do not use.

You have installed VMware or Virtual PC?

If so, these programs will create a new network - please open the network and sharing Center and disable these additional networks.

    1. open the network and sharing Center page in the control panel.

2 confirm that it says multi-network right under the icon in the Middle, like the screenshot above.

    3. click on the link customize to the right of the first illustrated network, directly under the Internet icon, to display the window set the network location:

    4. move the window set the network location away, but let him open. (You'll need it in a minute, but at a time where it is otherwise inaccessible.)

    5. back on the network and sharing Center page, click on the link manage network connections (in the left task pane).

    6. in the network connections window, select the network adapter through which you get your Internet connection. (The views drop-down list, select Details; you want probably said something like network, unidentified in the status column.)

    7. click on disable this device network above (next to the big red X) button. Wait a few seconds for the chart on the network and sharing Center page to reflect the change.

    8. return to step #3 set network location window, and click on the merge or remove link network down locations.

    9. Despite Vista earlier assertion that he detected "multi-network," you will see probably only a single network in the window of merge or delete network locations:

    10. turn highlighted the only participant and then click on remove. (If there is more than one, you can delete all.)

    11. When you are finished, close the merge or delete network locations, and then close the window set the network location.

12 return to the network connections window and with the adapter disabled network always highlighted the #6 step, click the option activate this device network (next to the big orange arrow) button.

    13. after 10-15 seconds of delay, your Internet connection should work now, signified by the absense of the treacherous of entries multiple networks in the network and sharing Center page:

    Hello

    Please contact the Microsoft community.

I understand that your Lenovo idea S510 controller keeps on WIFI connections a fall during the use of the Internet.

I recommend you to check with the router manufacturer support you mentioned that issue gets fixed when you unplug the router.

You may encounter network or problems of Internet in Windows for several reasons. Some common problems that can cause these problems are:

    • Corrupt or incompatible drivers.

    • Network connection settings.

    • Hardware or software problems.

    • There is interference with other devices.

    • Your router and your PC network card can not work together.

I suggest you follow the below troubleshooting methods and check if it solves the problem.

Method 1: Run the network adapter Troubleshooter

If you cannot connect to a network, it could be a problem with your network adapter, the piece of hardware that allows your PC to connect to a network.

First of all, try to use the network adapter troubleshooting utility to automatically find and fix some problems. This troubleshooting will be disable and re-enable the adapter and try a few other common repairs. Here's how:

    1. open the Control Panel by right-clicking on the Start button.

2 in the search box, type Troubleshooting, and then click Troubleshooting.

3 click network and Internet, run the utility network adapter troubleshooting, and follow the instructions

    on your screen and check.

Method 2: Uninstall the network adapter driver and restart

Try to uninstall the network adapter driver, and then restart your computer and have Windows automatically installs the latest driver. Here's how:

    1. right-click on Start, select Device Manager and navigate to the network cards > network adapter

    name.

2 right click (or press and hold) the network card, and then select Uninstall > remove the driver

software for this device box > OK to confirm that you want to uninstall.

3 after uninstalling the driver, click on the Start button > power > restart.

After restarting your PC, Windows will automatically search for and install the network adapter driver. Check to see if this solves your connection problem.

If she does not then install download / install the driver from the websites of the manufacturers of Lenovo.

I hope this helps. If the issue is not resolved, please get back to us and we would be happy to help you.

  • I've never seen the cloud on my watch symbolizing the wifi connection.

I've never seen the cloud on my watch symbolizing the wifi connection. How to operate when phone and shows are on the same network?

    Hi, Kristian

If your Apple Watch is not connected to your iPhone via Bluetooth, but it is within range of a WiFi (2.4 GHz) network your iPhone plugged in the front (while it was connected to your watch via Bluetooth), then your watch can connect to this network and still offer some features:

To check the status of the connection of your watch, go to the eye of parameters:

    • When displaying the time on your watch, slide up on the screen, then swipe left / right for the look of parameters.
    • This will specify connected or disconnected:
      • If it says connected and the icon in the upper right corner is a green phone, your watch is connected to your iPhone via Bluetooth.
      • If it says connected, the icon is a green cloud, then your watch is disconnected from your iPhone via Bluetooth, but rather connected (as a backup) to a known Wi - Fi network.
      • If it is disconnected, your watch is disconnected from your iPhone and also is not connected to a Wi - Fi network. The icon in the upper right corner will be a red telephone with a line through it.
    • Slide down again to return to the watch face.

To test whether your watch is currently able to connect to a Wi - Fi compatible network known as a relief:

    • When within range of the network, turn off Bluetooth on your iPhone.
    • After pausing for a short time, check the status of the connection of your watch as described above.

According to your post, you were able to connect the laptop to the router WLan.
In this case, the WiFi connection has been established correctly.

I put t think there is a problem with the laptop s Wlan connection. Your WLan router is probably some problems and that is why I recommend to reset the router.

In addition, you could test the LAN connection.
In case you have a problem with the connection to the local network, the configuration of the router should be checked.
