No sound after installing the Vista 64 SP2

Since the 1st time I installed SP2 I lost the sound on my Toshiba laptop. The drivers and settings remained intact, but could not hear through speakers, headphones only. I uninstalled SP2 and it was back to normal. Months later, I tried again, sound was ok, but then some time later it's the same then days after sound returns on its own. I started playing a video and at halfway through the sound disappeared, this happened several times. At this moment I have uninstall SP2. I'm never back.

Furthermore, I did a reinstall of microsoft audio drivers and Toshiba, nothing helps.

After installing SP2 on my new laptop, I found, on my version check, he did not mention SP1 as having been installed/added.

Then I tried to UNINSTALL SP2, or take the computer to a previous restore point, as the problem of "NO SOUND" (confirmed by a small circle of Red containing a white "x" icon of speakers [IDT High Definition Audio CODEC] located at the bottom right of the laptop screen may have been caused by adding SP2 without previously installing SP1)

I discovered that there is no previous restore point (it's a new laptop) - so I can't RESTORE to AN EARLIER DATE of TIME and I have not the slightest idea how to UNINSTALL SP2 - on windows xp I could have just do it through the CENTER OF CONTROL and ease "Add or remove programs.

I found what seems to be the driver of Audio concerned especially for the particular model, but do not know if it is the version of correct i.e.latest of the driver or how to download.

    The details are:-

"The software and the following drivers are compatible with your product and the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system

Can anyone help? I have an option for 'Complete restoration of Windows', but want to this only as a last resort because I do not have a backup of my files.

    Thank you

    Try this first before reinstalling.

If it fails, see below, data recovery before reinstalling.

    Restore point:

Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

If the above does not work, try to make a Bootable ERD to do a Startup Repair:

As is the case with most computers/laptops these days, they do not come with good Vista disc to repair only the recovery disks.

As your grave in the category above, download the ISO on the provided link and do a repair of the disc.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

You can make a tool to restart system, System Restore, etc. with it.

Read all the info on the website on how to create and use it.

    Data recovery:

    1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.

    2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.

3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:

Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.

Download the Vista software from the link above.

After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.

Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.

Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1 in the boot order.

Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.

When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.

Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.

Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).

Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.

  • After installing the Vista SP2, IE 8 does not work well.

After installing Vista SP2, IE 8 under my.live.com does not work.  The pages do not FLOW RSS download, links on the page at the top are not active and usually IE has out crapped.  I went to run a complete Internet security suite uninstall Trend Micro and put it in a plain Jane anit-virus program.

I would like to keep the functioning of IE8, but switch to FireFox, if I need to see my RSS STREAM or do some serious web browsing.

In addition, Live Messenger is no longer connect either.

Is there a way I can safely roll back my system to SP1?  I can't live without Vista SP2.

    Hi Geekster,

Please use the forum for Support of Vista,

IE 8 is not a part of Vista SP2.  You can remove SP2 without removing IE8.

Here are the steps to uninstall SP2
Method 1: Uninstall the service pack of Windows Vista by using the programs and features item in the easiest control panel to uninstall a service pack for Windows Vista is to use the programs and features in Control Panel. To uninstall the service pack of Windows Vista by using the programs and features in Control Panel, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, type Appwiz.cpl in the Start Search box, and then click Appwiz.cpl in the programs list.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click continue.
    2. Click view installed updates.
    3. Click the service pack that you want to uninstall, and then click Uninstall.

If you don't see the option to uninstall for Windows Vista service pack in the list, go to method 2.

    4. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete the uninstallation.

If method 1 does not allow to remove SP2, try different method in this article:

  • Will not start after installing the Vista SP2

Last night my old Vista SP2 computer.  Installation seems to have success, but to restart the computer as part of the installation of automatic update, it failed.  During a part of the boot with a screen similar to BACK sequence, it arrested, printed a msg that appears to be in hexadecimal and would go no further.  Restart with a sequence of hot or cold start to produce the same result.  I tried to correct the problem by using the Startup Repair on the Vista installation disc and received a msg that Windows could not repair the problem itself.  I sent the results to Microsoft using this option in the Startup Repair tool.

  • Satellite A300 - after installing the Vista SP1 no longer start

    Hello

I brought my Satellite A300 friends tonight to upgrade Vista to Windows 7.

The disc of Windows 7 told me before he could upgrade the Vista would need a service pack 1, so I started to install the service pack and when he went to restart mode then it spent in step 2 restart and all of a sudden the screen went black and a load of a number appeared and it goes no further the system frozed.

Problem now is that Windows does not start and it will not work in safe mode and I'm afraid that all my friends photo and files are now gone.

    I'm empty!

    Can anyone help?

    Hello

Now, what happens if you try to start Windows? You get an error message or something else?

Normally before you install something like a Service Pack or Windows 7 you must back up all the files first and this must be done at any time normally ;)
I think you can only recover data if you put the HARD drive into an external HARD drive enclosure. Then, you can save the data on another computer.

After that, you can do a clean Windows 7 or alternative facility. install Vista using Toshiba recovery disc, then Windows 7.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite A30 - no sound after installing the audio driver

I've updated the audio driver on my laptop A30 today on the Toshiba site with download of Realtek Semiconductor Corporation, and now the sound does not work. It's my single stereo so I feel really bad. The original driver discs are stored and I'm not very techie so help please...

Thanks a lot for your time, Phill

    Hi Phill,

First of all, I would like to check the sound settings in the control panel to make sure that none of them are extinguished, and that "dumb" is not checked. Also check that the volume on the side of your A30 control is enough at full volume.

In the case where everything is set correctly, I would then reload the driver Realtek of the utility CD and tools of Toshiba. If you do not have access to the CD then you can restore the driver to its original state by selecting the audio device in Device Manager"and roll back driver it.

If all else fails you should be able to 'restore' your system from the last point before your installation of the new driver restore.

Vista service pack 2 and the loss of its

    Windows vista 32 bit
I installed vista service pack 2 update and lost sound, I restored my computer to service pack 2 and sound istalling pre was there. I have re-installed now update sevice pack 2 and its missing again. It's the same with service pack 1 and I had to restore my computer to factory settings to retrieve the sound. I really don't want to have to do it again.
I tried the microsoft fix that says everything is fine. I've done all the things suggested on troubleshooting audio from vista - still no sound. My internet explore keeps reloading when I don't have service pack 2 installed.
What can I do to fix this?

Like Nettie63, after SP2 has been installed, my sound on the left and the utility 'fix it' said everything of fine.  I tried the fix above with the research of STacSV64.exe that by pasting into the search bar.  However, he said that there was no file so I couldn't just double-click on it.

Use the Advanced startup options , and then select the option 'Disable automatic restart in case of system failure'.  Then the next time it fails it must stop on the error screen.  Post back with the error message so that we can discuss this more.  You can clean boot your system to see if there is a program, possibly the origin of the problem.  You should also test in Safe Mode and see if it happens then.
