No sound in browsers after a windows update

OK, this is the second time that this has happened. While I was asleep Windows Update and now I have no less sound my browsers. I fixed it the first time by running a system restore, but I don't want to have to restore the system whenever windows updates. I am running Vista on a HP Pavilion (DV6 I think) I know that this has nothing to do with browsers, since it happened twice after a windows update.

In addition, all is well in the mng device. and I can hear in media player.

Hi ty f.

·         Are you referring to Internet browsers?

·         What browsers are installed on your computer?

For Internet Explorer, you can consult the following suggestions.

Method 1: Check if the sounds are disabled for the browser.

a. open Internet Explorer. Go to Tools , then Internet Options.

b. open the Advanced tab.

c. scroll down to the multimedia section.

d. make sure the box next to play sounds in web pages . Click on 'ok '. Restart Internet Explorer. A test to see if the sound will now play.

Method 2: Reset the Internet Explorer settings. See step 2 of the following article.

  • What happened to the sound in xp after a windows update

so I'm not the only one with this problem. about two or three weeks, I woke up one day and grew up my computer after hibernation, and he was asked to restart my windows xp system to complete an update of windows. After that I did, my sound disappeared completely. the volume has disappeared from the bar of tasks and in the Panel of control under sounds and audio devices, it says no audio device, but the audio device is there and the driver is as well. I did some tests to try to understand why he did this. first of all, I uninstalled the audio card in the Device Manager and reinstalled realtek. When I did, a lot of drivers began to appear that I've never seen before who were related to windows and they had yellow! "s next to them. After trying several versions realtek sound drivers for my card, I decided to load my fedora linux OS to see if it was a bad sound card, but the material works very well under linux. I went back to xp and used a program called SiSoftware Sandra and let it scan my system. in the results, I was getting errors with DirectX and DirectSound, but I could not understand what it meant. I also used the DirectX dignostic tool which also gave an error when testing the sound with it. so I am almost sure, this problem was caused by something that microsoft made in one of their latest updates for windows xp. That's the only explanation logical I can come up with because it is not a hardware problem and drivers are not the problem either. My question is how can this be brought to the attention of microsoft in order to examine the question and to fix. Oh and I forgot to mention that I tried to reinstall DirectX as well, but still no luck. I guess that I'll stick to fedora until microsoft solves this problem.

OK, I wanted to just update this thread with my last State on my problem. I tried everything that I could think of to try and fix my sound. I used a lot of different antivirus programs to see if I could find an infection as the cause. while I found some infections, they do not seem that cause problems. as a last resort, I backed up all my data and programs on an external hard drive and did a complete reformat and install windows xp. While the sound does not work at first, install the right driver for my sound card did the trick after the new installation of xp. so I didn't really want to resort to do a full reformat because of how long it would take, but he turns out to be the only solution to my problem. now, I just spend a good all by restoring all my data and programs, but, overall, it is useful to have her back. What a strange question however. I can't say I ran across that one before and I am not sure what caused it, but I think that it is a corruption in DirectX that I couldn't fix. Well, you live and you learn. so if anyone has a similar question to mine, you may need to do the same thing, I did to solve the problem and make a complete reformat and install. don't forget to backup your data if you do not want to lose well

    Hi Dan MJ.

Yes, you can go ahead and try the steps in my previous post and check if this solves the problem.

If these steps is not enough you can follow these methods and check if it works:

Method 1: I you recommend to turn off the computer, unplug the power, restart the computer and reconnect the USB device. See if the device is detected.

Method 2: You can run the hardware and devices Troubleshooter and see if this fits the Bill.

Open the hardware and devices Troubleshooter

  • lost touch pad dell drivers after installing Windows updates.

    Separated from this thread.

I did the update and lost contact dell drivers pad and now I can't play all the games that I got on the computer. The previous update lost my sound card drivers.

    Hi Craig,.

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community forums.

I'm sorry to know that you are facing problems after installing Windows updates.

Any Windows specific update which is the origin of the problem or you face the problem after installing updates? This is to check if the updates you receive are associated with hard devices.

To view your history of update, follow these steps:
    a. open Windows Update by sliding into the right edge of the screen (or, if you are using a mouse, pointing to the corner bottom right of the screen, move the mouse upward), tapping or clicking on settings, tapping or clicking change PC settingsand then by typing or clicking on update and recovery.

    b. press or click view update history.

I wish that you install the Dell Web site touchpad drivers.

You can refer to this article for the procedure: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=1JW07

In addition, if all of the updates are at the origin of the problems with the hardware on the PC, then I suggest you also update the drivers from the Dell Web site chipset.
    See the article:

If I turned off the computer, I di everything again.

Do you mean the button that launches Internet Explorer?

According to your message the laptop doesn't connect to the WLan automatically and you will need to connect it manual to get the job of WLan.
    Is this right?

I put t know how you have connected the laptop to your router, but usually, if you own Windows WLan zero configuration then you should make sure that the parameters to a called + connect when this network is in range. +

I have Windows vista Ultimate edition. but he started asking for activation after the windows update while it has already been activated before the update.

    Hello, Pichon,

If Windows Vista application unexpected activation

On rare occasions, you may be prompted to activate Windows Vista on a computer that did not previously require Windows Vista activation or has already been activated successfully. For example, this may occur on a computer on which Windows Vista was preinstalled by an OEM installation or Volume licensing and are major hardware changes occurred, such as upgrading the hard disk and memory at the same time.

If you are prompted to reactivate Windows Vista, you can do this by using the Windows Activation Wizard to:

    1. Click Start, and then click computer.
    2. Click System Properties on the toolbar, and then click click here to activate Windows now in the Windows activation area. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click continue.
    3. Select the Windows Vista activation method that you want, and then follow the instructions.

To avoid this problem in the future, obtain the latest service pack for your version of Windows Vista, either through automatic updates or direct download.

To update to Windows Vista and prevent this activation problem does not happen:

    1. Click Start, click all programs, and then click Windows Update.
    2. Click find updates.
    3. As soon as Windows Vista found the updates, click the install updates button.

    Hello

Welcome to the Forums Community Microsoft and thanks for posting the question.

According to the description, you get an error message "FAILED CONNECTION USER INIT" after installing Windows updates.

From my research, this problem occurs if the Userinit key in the Windows registry has been changed. For example, this problem may occur if the Userinit key has a value, but no binary data.

I suggest you follow the steps mentioned below.

    Method 1:

Step 1: Start the computer in safe mode

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

Step 2: Check the value and binary Userinit registry data

Important: The following instructions contain the steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information, view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

    Back up the registry
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/back-up-the-registry

    a. start Registry Editor. To do this, click Start, type regedit in the search box and press ENTER.

    b. click continue.

    c. Locate and then click the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

    d. in the right pane, right-click Userinit, and then click change.

    e. in the value data box, type hard disk:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe, and then click OK.

Note: The placeholder of the hard drive refers to the drive on which Windows Vista is installed.

    f. close the registry editor.

    g. restart the computer.

    Method 2:

Restore the system to an earlier point before installing this application.

System Restore can return your files system to a point in time before you noticed a problem, without affecting documents, photos, or other personal files. If the system restore does not resolve the problem, you can undo the restore operation and choose a different restore point.
