No sound on XPS M1710

Hey everyone, for some reason, my speakers stopped working. Headset works fine, but no sound from speakers. I checked to make sure that nothing has been put on mute, in the audio option in the control panel. I even did a full reformat, with all the right drivers and still no sound. Someone had this problem? It is possibel that somehow speakers were disconnected as of something inside the laptop? ANY help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!!

If it is still under warranty, I suggest you contact technical support?

  • XPS M1710 - Audio hardware problem

I have a XPS M1710, probably close to 10 years. It has been impeccable in the performance over the years. However, one day my audio just stopped working. There a (!) in Device Manager, next to my card its SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC. When I go to properties it says the following.

I am running Windows XP by the way...

    "State of the device.

Windows has properly loaded this hardware device driver but cannot very well the hardware device (Code 41)"

I decided to buy a new motherboard and recently installed new motherboard and I have the same exact error.

I know that this laptop is super old, but that doesn't make any sense to me why the audio is always a failure. I'm going to uninstall the new motherboard and make sure that all connections seem to be good.

Any other advice? A dead speaker at risk of this or any other material?

    Thank you

Hello. A faulty speaker would not cause the error message. You could get the codec failed if it failed both the MB origin and replacement. You can test the codec running audio Dell 32-bit diagnostic tests. If you are testing is no longer, and then follow the instructions here to run the external media.

If the audio tests pass then it's a software problem. It's probably too late to try the Windows system restore, so I would try to re - install the audio driver according to the normal order of the facility would be used after a new OS:

    1. install the Notebook System Software and restart.

2 install the Intel chipset driver and restart.

    3 reinstall the driver Sigmatel.

If still no sound but its past tests, then you should get audio back after the next time you perform a system recovery.

  • Internal network card is cut off when I remove my XPS M1710 the docking station

    Hello

I have a xps M1710 laptop. I normally use a docking station and the internal network card works fine when the laptop is in the docking station. But now when I remove the laptop from the docking station for the network adapter is disconnected.

I know that it stops when the battery mode to save energy, but it is always closed when I connect to a power supply for laptop. I tried the plug before you turn on the computer and it does make a difference.

It's not happened before and I have to go to the internet on my laptop earlier, when not to use the docking station.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

  • Update for the Dell XPS M1710 HDD issues

Hey guys. Just a beginner on these forums since ive ever need a hand with my laptop. And I looked on the forums and couldn't find anything specific to my problem. So I have a XPS M1710 with a 100 GB hard drive at 7200 RPM, under Vista, and I would like to upgrade, especially for a 320 GB 7200 rpm or 200 7200 RPM. I also have a 320 GB external hard drive. First of all, what are the steps I should take to do upgrade, im also really confused on the whole "image" stuff Second, how can I find out what kind of hard drive of my laptop is compatible with? Finally I live in Australia and the site of Dell Aussie exclusively from a like 1 hard disk, so doesn't Dell ship the hard drive of the America to the Australia?

  • No way to prevent "the AC power adapter type cannot be determined" message on XPS M1710? (AC adapter is properly plugged)

Often, I get the following message between the screens "Dell" and "Windows", when that I start my XPS M1710 when plugged:

Unable to determine the type of AC power adapter.  The system can start only with a 130 W power adapter or more.  Hit the F1 key to shutdown.  To resolve this problem, try to reconnect the AC adapter.

This message occurs when the AC adapter is inserted correctly and completely, and that's the Dell adapter supplied with my notebook.  Is there anything I can do (possibly a registry hack) to force the computer to start instead of this message?  Once it gives me this message and I have to press F1 to close it, it takes an extremely long time to go to the "Dell" screen on the chest which follows (1 minute or two).  My battery hold so little cost when that happens, I turn on the laptop when it is plugged in, unplug it when the "Dell" on-screen progress bar finishes, then plug it back when the 'Windows' screen is displayed.

It is an old laptop and I will soon receive a new, so I won't spend the money to buy a new AC adapter and the battery for XPS M1710, but I'd like to solve this problem, if it can be done otherwise.

    Thank you!

I used to have this problem until it has just stopped working. Fact of the matter is Dell power supplies are designed for out of normal use. The cable for the tiny pin in the middle is broken inside the brick and was not fixed easily (you'd have to bust open the brick). Horrible design and this officially marks the last machine from Dell, I will never buy. With a registry hack that prevents the audit (ensuring the adapter you are using is Dell to make them more money), adapter is perfectly capable. I have an adapter 130W (XPS L1502X) and because of this my brother (Studio... not sure of the model). Mine came with the laptop at the time of purchase and the power adapter may not be recognized by me or my brothers laptop computer. Now my computer recognizes the cable my brother, but here's the catch: its cable is less common that mine and this can cause serious damage to my machine. When Dell said that it is a "security feature", it is so full of Bull. If that were the case, it would not allow that my brothers cable to go into my machine. Nice one Dell, you have lost a customer and I will make sure that everyone that I go looking for a new laptop does not buy your trash.

I'm currently waiting on a replacement power brick that I ordered on ebay, so I can charge my laptop once again. Dell will charge you $ 70-80 to do this on eBay it's around $ 30-40 - all avoiding the retail margin.

I do not throw accusations at Dell for the design of the brick to fail, I'm going off the coast of many positions of electrical engineers who have experienced the same frustrations and have taken it upon themselves to expose this type of scam.

  • Drive Blu - ray of XPS M1710 in precision M6300?

Someone tried to put the Matshita UJ-210 of BD - RE Blu - Ray burner in a Precision M6300? Would really like to be able to burn BD in my accuracy and commercial attaché Dell tells me that the only option for Blu - Ray in the M6300 is a BD burner No.

The drive listed above is identical to that used in the XPS M1710. Don't know what model of car the M6300 is delivered with which is a non-bruleur. Maybe he will not support the precision MB? Anyone see a reason it would not work?

The other BD burners that I should consider?

    TIA! : bravohelen:

  • No sound on XPS M1330 (w / screenshots)

Recently I started having problems with the sound card on my XPS M1330. The problem is that the internal sound card does not work and is no longer recognized by Windows Vista. I also use Ubuntu 8.04 and the sound is fine when I run it. The problem seems to be with Vista.

I tried several times to reinstall the driver from the Dell support site, but it still comes up with this error message.

And then when I go into Device Manager, that's what I see. The sound card is not where it should be, but in the "Other devices" section as an unknown device.

What can I do to fix this? Note that this is probably not a hardware problem as the sound card works perfectly on Ubuntu 8.04.

  • Clucking Sound of XPS M1530 hard drive

I tried to search for this problem in the forum and only stumbled on old posts, the most recent is somewhere in 2007. It seems that no agency is facing this problem in 2008.

I am facing this problem now with my new XPS M1530, which is less than 1 month old. He just started 4 days ago.

No error detected when I tested it. Even in safe mode for a few hours, it was not all his "cot". I have nothing in there that I can't do anything much in SafeMode in any case.

When I used it, it will come by surprise, no warning or anything. It came when he wanted to. That is why I cannot give you the exact scenario or anything which trigger.

I suspect it's from the hard disk, I contacted support and they ask me to continue to exercise oversight. Sigh...

Someone has an idea of what's going on with that? It seems no this problem for a long time, judging by this forum, I am facing this problem now.

Hope to hear something about this soon. Thank you.

  • XPS M1710 Fried video card

It started with random BSOD you ask a malfunction of hardware memory different addresses and has progressed to the point where I can see my system to multiple boot with major artifacts, and then the screen turns white.  I can always start on the Diagnostic Partition and covered all of the tests, which proclaims that each tested video memory address is bad.  (All other tests pass.)

My question is: what are the options of repair of the VC?  Is the NVidia GS7900 boarded the M/B or is it a replaceable point?  As the computer is a little more than 2 years, it will be cost effective to fix it, or should I start budgeting for a replacement?

Any help or ideas is greatly appreciated.
