  Don't you see the same direction on the external monitor?
  If Yes, then the graphics card may be affected which means you need to replace the motherboard.

  If the lines are visible only on the internal screen, then the screen itself may be faulty.

  you need a disk IDE because only this one fits into your machine (there are new standard SATA with two long hard disk connectors and the IDE from an old 40-pin at the back of the HARD drive)

• Question about recovery use DVD on Satellite A50

  My son forgot where he put the recovery DVDs for the Satellite A50 laptop (bought in store for almost 5 years) future, he tried to install Windows XP using another CD.
  Later, we found the recovery DVDs, but we can no longer use it.

  Preinstalled WXP has nothing to do with your try to install OS using recovery media.
  I'm really confused why this is happening, but that s be clear:

  Saved on recovery media recovery image is created for some portable model and cannot be used on another model of laptop. So before installing recovery starts, recovery image check and compare information with the laptop. If the information stored in recovery image correspond to the information stored on laptop recovery installation is possible, otherwise it will stop.

  When the laptop is faulty or repaired service must be portable computer information with the good. If this is not the laptop can be recognized and recovery plant will be halted.

  So if nothing is changed on the laptop my only theory is that there is something wrong with the recovery media.

  Anyone got any ideas how to get the audio/video controls to work on my satellite A50?

  They do not seem to work with any of my media players i.e. wmp10, nero, power dvd...

  Anyone got an idea as to this driver, I need to make them work.

  P.S.: They worked, but after that I formatted the disc they stopped so obviously im missing pilot.

  Also I don't have the recovery disks. Is this downloadable from anywhere?

• Blue screen more often (Satellite A50-111)

  Hello. My laptop (satellite A50-111) stops with a blue screen. Sometimes when that I start the computer, sometimes, when I'm trying to play a video file, sometimes... I can't understand why... The error messages are inconsistent. They are different all the time (for example: SPECIAL_POOL_DETECTED_MEMORY_CORRUPTION or PFN_LIST_CORRUPT or PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGE_AREA or something with IRQ LESS THAN EQUAL etc.).

  I suspect that the problem is the graphics card or RAM memory. It is because the file ialmdnt5.dll and ialmdev5.dll were mentioned in the error screens).

  I ran a test of memory from a CD bootable (memtest-86) and everything seems to be fine with the memory. However, the memory is not the original one. I did a brief day when I bought the laptop (the memory is TMC - 2 x 512 MB)

  Any ideas what the problem might be. The problem is that I have these blue screens more often (I've had them several times before but now I have at least one per day)

  More info: I ran the test memory Microsoft (in addition to above mentioned Memtest-86). Is it possible to have the RAM ok, but everything just does not work WITH my Toshiba laptop? In other words, is something special on the modules of memory supplied with the laptop (which I have not because I have improved the memory immediately when I bought the laptop). Thank you.

  Another relevant info: I used the program "auditor" and this explains why I've been blue screens more often. I turn off, but I have still a few blue screens (not as often as before). The newest one: «...» "Stop 0x0000008E... win32k.sys..." "However, I rarely have the same error message

  The use of sharde RAM for your graphics card will be controlled by the graphics driver and it will be of course specific to your graphics card. ATI has provide a useful utility which is accessible from the Panel of control-> Display Properties-> advanced. Within this utility is an option to change the value of the AMU which will change the RAM allocation shared to the graphics card. On my A30 is adjustable between 16 MB, 32 MB, 64 MB and 128 MB.

  I believe that Intel provides a similar utility but I've never seen so I can't comment on that.

  Save your advanced display settings to see if there is a similar option.

  In addition, Phoenix BIOS displays the value of the AMU in the settings menu of BIOS and it can also be change here.
