Noisy Tecra M1: slamming nose!

Hi all

I own a Tecra M1 works with Xp pro and I have the same problem with Jeremy published in July 2004.

It makes a noise slamming (like his ek ek... EK) whenever the HARD drive light flashes. It's really disturbing. I also own a Toshiba Satellite. Pro. but I never found this problem.

Does anyone have a suggestion to fix the problem?
Will there be an option in Windows that allows to eliminate the noise?

I can't wait to finish my work. I don't want to send my laptop at the point of Service, it would eat me a few weeks.

Thank you very much

Hello
my friend had a similar problem, until he stopped the Windows XP Indexing Service.

Improve performance by disabling the Indexing Service
The Indexing Service in Windows XP indexes your files probably to shorten the time needed to search your drive hard if you're looking for a specific file or part of a sentence in a file.

By default, this service is set to manual (so it does not start), but when you do a search on your computer, there is this small question asking if you want to conduct future searches faster... so you could have him (he will tell you that you will enable the indexing service when you choose this option).

Anyway, running for some time, it was one of the first things I decided turned off, and I have not noticed any delay when I do my research (and I guess with my C:\ drive with more 106,000 files in folders more 2 700 I'm not a typical user!), but I have noticed improvement of having more CPU cycles available at all times.

Don't you hate it when you play a game of heart and your system decides that you do 'nothing', so that it can start indexing your files, slowing down your game to a crawl.

To turn off the indexing service, open the computer management in administrative tools (in the start menu if you have enabled this, or from the control panel), select Services and Applications, double-click Services and find the Indexing Service.

Double-click it to display the Properties window and click Stop to let Windows to stop the service.

Then in the status type drop-down list select disabled.

Good bye...

Hello. I got the Tecra R850-520 4 months. from the beginning, I have the same problem - noisy fan but no load cpu (about 2-4%) using win7 and win8 64bits

I tried to change the windows profile to optimize or energy saving. but I still get the fan noise. Set the bios to 3.90. I have re-checked windows 8. and always the pleasure is strong. When no cpu is used.

Notepad is cool - so I don't know where is the problem. It's probably bad driver for ACPI or for measuring the temperature. I tried to change the position of the laptop - and I found two metal plate on the bottom.

I think that it is a measure of temperature sensors. When I flip the laptop, and the plates are "we air ', not touched by any material - the fan will slow down in a few minutes.

    Hello

You can set Windows Power plan settings in order to improve the cooling system.

    Changes in the operating system:
--> Power Options control panel--> change the parameters of plan--> change power avancΘs--> TOSHIBA Power Saver Settings--> cooling method

Changes in the Bios (power management):
    Intel Turbo boost Technology

    Changes in the operating system:
TOSHIBA HW Setup--> the CPU frequency mode

    Try this settings:
Plan (Toshiba power save) optimised battery
Technology Intel Turbo Boost (BIOS) - disable
    The CPU always low frequency

From my experience, this should reduce the noise.

  • Tecra M5 - fan is noisy and constantly lit

I have a new Tecra M5, to replace a M400... The M400 at first had a very noisy fan but Toshiba provided an update of the BIOS to reduce, which was good!

The M5 does not have this luxury, the fan is constantly on and I know that the goal is to keep cool.
But I know from experience we Shouldna´t have to be this strong. Someone at - it experience the same problems or know of a fix?

Powersaver tool does not appear to reduce this and I noticed that the two options is grayed out and disabled now.

What options are just grayed out?

I just read your first thread on the wrong BIOS update. It seems that you have updated the wrong BIOS on your laptop. Am I wrong?

  • Tecra A4 noisy display card

    Hi all

I am currently facing a very disconcerting problem on my Tecra A4. It has an ATI X 300 128 MB GPU.

With maximum hardware acceleration turned on, I get continuous high sound tone every time that some parts of the screen changes. For example, if I drag a window around the screen, I hear this all the time.

It worsens a lot a lot when I run graphics intensive games. For example, when a 3D graphics benchmark program was running, the sound is just unbearable.

For purposes of normal work, I can reduce the noise by turning off graphics hardware acceleration. However, for games, it is impossible!

Please advise what the problem might be and what I can do to solve. It's the replacement laptop that the company sent me the first was dead on arrival

    Thank you.

    Hello

did you search for the Toshiba site for an update of the driver?
I can't tell you what to do because this device is very new!
In my opinion, you can make a single step (to be different if it's hard - or software).
Save all your important data and do a full restore of the system. Then search for the driver on the Toshiba site updates and try to play a game. If the problem is still there, you have a hardware or driver problem.
For an update of the driver, you will need to wait until what Toshiba give him!
    Sorry!

  • Noise noisy fan on Tecra R850 (HDD vs SDS)

    * OS *: Windows 7 64-bit
    * Toshiba * Tecra R850
    * Processor *: Core i7 2620M Sandy Bridge
    * AMD HD6450M Grafik *:
    * BIOS *: version 3.90

    Gentlemen.

in our society, we use the portable Toshiba Tecra for 3 months.
The fan noise is to us aloud, you always hear the fan sitting a meter away from the computer (no CPU load).

What helps a little was to change in the
Control Center Power Options (change Plan settings-> change advanced power-> TOSHIBA Power Saver Settings-> cooling method settings * to * + battery + Optimized).

But you can still hear the fan turning at 40%-45% when the CPU/system temperature is 40 degrees Celsius.

On the guy last week also receives a new laptop of Toshiba R850, it is very quiet.
The difference is that, in his notebook, an SSD is installed (instead of a HARD drive).

If the SDS make the difference of fan noise? (we do not believe it).

Maybe someone has had the same experience and has a solution?

    Thanks in advance

    Respect,
    VILSG

    Hi Paulo

Thanks for the useful comments Paulo. Are there more positive things after replacing HARD drive?
You may notice faster access to the SSD and performance of mobile in general?
What is with the consumption of energy when you use your battery Tecra?

  • Tecra S2 very noisy fan

I just got my (used to have a S1) S2, but the fan is very noisy. It is noisy it is even annoying me during labor.

I updated the driver in power saving mode and the power to register the software. But een noise remains.

The fan also seems to operate continuously at full speed. Especially when loading the batteries upwards again.

    In battery mode
In battery mode the fan starts, goes to high speed, stops for a short period, starts, going at high speed, stops for a shotr then that implemented site, etc etc this cycle is repeated over and over again. Very annoying.

Why as with the S1 series where the fan seems to work constantly but that at low speed if you do not hear it.

    Mode full power
The fan only is in battery mode back regularly at top and goes down to reduce speed also with regular periods. Why not let the fan turns at average speed?
And as written above when the battery GET fans continue to run at high speed noisy!

Is there an update of the material of possibel with a fan with less noise? Maybe by any other type of fan.

I think to go back to my S1 and sell this S2 as it is very boring school work.

    Hello

As much as I know on some units the fan running normal.
It is normal that the fan make such a noise.
I know that it is possible to run 3rd party tools to let the fan run all the time in slow speed.
I think that you can find in the net.
In addition, you can try to do the BIOS update if one available on download from Toshiba site.
You can find them all on

    http://www.toshiba-tro.de/subpage/BIOS.html

By the way the only way to change some settings of the cooling fan you can find in power management.

    Good luck

  • Tecra M3 works very noisy

My Tecra M3 PTM30E is 4 months old and I'm starting to find it unbearbable to use. The fan noise is a source of irritation for all meetings and is almost as strong as the overhead projector.

He never stops despite all my efforts to resign from all the activity of the processor. I write this, I only have one open web browser and it is running very strong and hot and give me and those who sat near me a headache. I heard a lot of reports of this problem.
    How ever released?

Toshiba can do about this new firmware, drivers, etc? I'm ready for this portable bin please help!

    Jim

    Hi Jim

My opinion is that the units are much stronger than before. I use an old Tecra M1 and this device is very, very quiet. My colleague has the same unit as you and it is much stronger than mine.

The fact is that with the new hardware architecture und new mobile technologies, the devices are more powerful than before, but the downside is that the units produce more heat and must be cooled more.

In your case, I recommend you to use saving settings and slow cooling method. I think that you meet don t need maximum performance and unit should work with the lower activity of the CPU. On the left side you can see different profiles. Try using the profile called presentation. If the device is always strong, change settings manually.

Sorry, but I don't see any possibility of reducing the speed of the cooling fan.

    Good luck!

  • Re: Toshiba Power Saver on Tecra A8 - which actually does?

As stated in the subject. What does this utility actually do?
Influence the speed of treatment? The brightness of the screen? The fan speed?
Have you noticed an improvement in the life of the battery? What nosie, does perform the fan speed?

My Tecra A8 is very noisy.

    LP

In my opinion there is not much to say. If you control this tool, you can see which parameters are available here.

    > Affect processing speed? The brightness of the screen? The fan speed?
Why you do not test it on your laptop? Try to change profiles in energy saving by using the FN + F2 key combination and see what happens.

I can answer all of your questions with Yes. But, in my opinion, you should test al cela alone to see what exactly is happening, if you choose different levels on every single available setting.

  • Tecra A8 PTA83E fan is still running

I have a Tecra A8 and the fan runs always, always, when I start the laptop.
The parameters energy saver is battery optimized, but I tried several settings, no changes to this problem.
Already tried the game still at low speed of treatment (C-States, and many other options to set different) in the BIOS, no change.
Try to use system (speedfan, nhc) tools, but not detect the conroller of fan, so no change.
After 1 hour using Intel thermal analysis tool (navigation, writing emails) shows me:
    -ACPI thermal zone: 35 ° C
    -C State: C3
-Digital basal temperature (two hearts): 29 ° C
    -frequency: 1 000 MHz (CPU T7200, 2 GHz)

The area thermal ACPI stay at 35 ° C until the time of base reach this temperature 35.
When I put the level of workload to 100% (two hearts), the maximum temperature of 55-60 ° C running very quickly (within 1 minute).
The disk HARD sensor (in Everest Ultimate) makes clear, temperature of 25 - 30 c.
Tried BIOS versions (and not the changes made to this problem): 1.50, 1.60, 3.20 and the new 3.30.
What's wrong? Why not work the fan control?
Is there another tool that can control the fan or can help to diagnose (or difficulty) this problem?
In service centre (in Hungary) has replaced the motherboard (the laptop turns on), the problem exists as of this date.
I will not go, I have no other 3 weeks to fix this in the service center and I not satisfied with his work, because his "turned eye" on this problem and try no difficulty (very noisy fan after plugging).

    Please someone help me!
    (PS: sorry for my English...)

    Hello

    > In service centre (in Hungary) has replaced the motherboard (the laptop turns on), the problem exists as of this date.

Well, seems that it started after the replacement of the motherboard.
So I know it's hard for you to leave your laptop for several days (weeks?) but I put t see any other solution.
Maybe the DMI must be updated
So if you want to get rid of this behavior strange fan, you need to contact the ASP in your country

  • Tecra M2 - strange noise abnormal notebook

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I received my new Tecra M2 two days ago. As I started using it, I noticed a strange noise coming from the laptop. I'm QUITE sure that's NOT the hard drive or fan, as it seems odd and it's a constant noise. Noise is also quite noisy and annoying, it sounds like a mobile phone signal! Could you tell me what could be the problem and how to solve?

    Thank you very much

    Hello
I also had a problem with noise if my M2 has been linked to a portreplicator. The solution was the number of Microsoft Hotfix KB822603. I hope this will help you.

  • TECRA M1 problems

    Hi all

I use a two years Tecra M1, PM 1.6, 512MBRAM, WinXP SP2. It seems to me that my laptop have problems.

    1. He starts and stops very slowly. Need more than 15 minutes to start.

2 HDD was noisy with ek ek ekk .even if I haven't run any software application.

    3. it runs very slow even with very simple software application such as Microsoft office. It take a lot of time to read and save a file. Similarly, I have to wait for about 30 seconds - 1 minute for the computer to answer a few buttons; for example, start Control Panel - System Configuration.

    4. If I opened several application programs and I have activate a program using ALT + TAB, the image of the program be activated appear to be blurry and take a few minutes to display clearly.

I reinstalled the operating system by using Recovery CD and installed only a few popular applications such as Microsoft Office, EndNote, and Norton Antivirus software.
    but he couldn't help.

I tested the performance of s to laptop using PassMark Performance Test Version 5.0. The result showed that CPU and memory seemed to be OK but the performance of the hard drive was not good (in my view).

    -Sequential read: 2.3 MB/second
    -Sequential write: 1.1 MB/second
-Random Seek + read & write: 0.69 MB per second

Do you think that there are some problems with my laptop HARD drive?

Last year, I also found the disk HARD was noisy (I used other laptops Toshiba "lower quality", but I never heard this unpleasant noise). I brought my laptop to a service point and a technician said that the HARD drive is OK.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

It certainly shouldn't take 15 minutes to load your system and with 512 MB of Ram you may be faced with the page or Exchange files problems.

You should be able to hear a very slight noise of rattling your drive hard when it is used, but I would not describe this as being noisy.

You could try to defragment your hard drive to see if it improves your response time, but I think you may well look a new hard drive in the near future.

  • Quality mediocre speaker Tecra R10 - 10A

    Hello
I just bought a tecra r10-10 has fills perfectly. My only complaint is an * extremely poor sound quality * fate of built-in speakers. I can't complain for lack of low frequencies, which is inevitable for this size, but distortion of severe clipping in the mid - hi freq range even with volume settings low.
That's all just much worse than my old laptop of acer cheaper. You just can't listen to music.
I also noticed that pressing tightly against the case on top the speakers I managed to remove a noisy ressons close to 2 kHz.

I wonder if this quality is expected in a Tecra laptop sound system, if anyone of you could suggest me some kind of trick to avoid that (?)

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

I think you are comparing the Tecra pregnant with external speakers or speakers Harman/kardon Qosmio X 300.
Computers Tecra laptops are not designed for multimedia, and they aren't a top line entertainment system. The laptops are designed for daily use of work and office.

A friend of mine has a Tecra laptop and he is very satisfied. The quality is perfect.

Anyway, if you really think sound better that you should update the sound card drivers and check the sound settings. Maybe it's a bad active sound environment that causes this poor sound.

    Good luck!
