Norton Ghost 9 / converter (take two).
Hello
It is a rehash of a recent post, I though it best to start again...
I am using vCenter Converter standalone client v4 version 146302 on Windows XP.
I'm trying to convert Norton Ghost 9 file (version 9.0.2.3981), which seems to...
However when I select the 'Save Image' option and give him my Ghost (with .sv2i extension) file and click next it comes up with:
"The machine virtual source is not recognized.
Norton Ghost is supported according to the documentation:
Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 or 2007
Microsoft Virtual Server 2005
Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery 6.5, 7.0, 8.0
Symantec LiveState Recovery 3/6
Versions of Norton Ghost 9 to 14
Acronis True Image backup
Parallels Desktop for Microsoft Windows 2.5, 3.0
ShadowProtect Desktop, server, SBS, IT, etc. versions 2.0 to 3.2
VMware Consolidated Backup
I then started using VMImporter, it gave me better clues as to what might happen (I note that MS, 4 XML Parser SP3 must be installed to make it work).
It seems that he is fussy on the destination drive (someone knows about it?), and there is a problem that if a partition is not active, it will not work. I would have hoped that the software could make the cloned image 'active '...
Another reminder:
I use a boot loader that allows me to use more than 4 active partitions, the way it works is that it makes the parition active when you select the option in the bootstrapper. All my drives are SATA
Anyone specifically of problems specifically with Norton Ghost 9 and this software is, and should not there be an option to enable a VMImage if it is inactive? And why he is fussy on destination disks (sometimes it indicates a path is missing for example, when you try to copy the cloned, image when I pointed the software easily at the right place).
NB this software is supposed to be supported so please avoid telling me to use other products :). I just need to convert my images from the virtual computer, then I can throw Ghost...
Thank you
VirtualAlexS,
You use the compression of the image, and if so, what level of compression is that? It seems that we do not support medium compression in old ghosts. To work around, you must convert your image using Ghost export function of recovery point. You can convert any other level of compression.

Norton Ghost crushes on Satellite Pro A100
Good afternoon everyone,
I'm having a problem with a few laptops I have here. I just got a few Satellite Pro A100 but I have problems with making an image of the HARD disk. I tried Norton Ghost and a few other programs that can back up a disk to an image, but none of them worked. For some reason, they all crash when they are tryig to get started.
I tried it on 3 different PC laptops and failed each time, exactly at the same place. I guess it has something to do with how these programs manage the memory.
If someone has had this problem before and have you found a solution for this?
Hello
I doubt that the problem is something serious. But I can say that your best bet is to bring to an authorized service provider. The hard drive under sometimes is used to disconnect after a bit of work. But this isn't anything you can do to fix it. You must take it to a repair shop and ask them to look at. The reason that Norton blocked is because it cannot read the disk hard because she is not completely connected. I would like to know how this happens. And one last thing, if you want to turn the laptop and to take cover in the lower right and see if the hard drive is seated properly and firmly. Then try to use the ghost.

Confusion with priority BIOS after running Norton Ghost.
Years ago, I had done a fresh XP install on a 75 GB Seagate hard drive. I have an old Maxtor drive of 25 GB the first connection on the Ribbon of the IDE and the Seagate is the second link on the same Ribbon. I have updated the BIOS to boot from the Seagate. Performance lately on the Seagate has not been good, so I decided to start from scratch. I did a fresh install of XP on the Maxtor and everything is saved for this drive. Subsequently, I deleted the partition of Seagate and used Norton Ghost 9.0 to copy the contents of the Maxtor to the Seagate. Then I changed the priority of hard drive BIOS so the computer would be of the Seagate. When the computer is first started after the copy, I got a blue screen which took place from the disk check. Subsequently, it seemed to boot from Maxtor, thanks to the constant ROAR. The Seagate is quiet. In addition, when I opened up under administrative tools computer management, the Seagate drive appears as drive D rather than C. I was confused so I saved a file on the desktop to confirm which drive has started. The resulting file saved in D:\Documents and Settings\... folder. It makes no sense to me. Why does the computer start to the Maxtor with the Seagate with the priority in the BIOS? In addition, since he did start the Maxtor, I do not understand why the file was saved on drive D instead of C (Maxtor) (Seagate). Remember, I had the same hard drive and BIOS before configuring backup and run the ghosts and files were copied on the disks expected during the priming for the Seagate.Does anyone have an idea what is happening? The BIOS follows it of own rules to choose which drive start.
Once he locates the starting tips for, then turns the Windows.Windows (XP) also gets its own way to begin - so you must be sure that it's boot sequence is correct. I got a new SATA Raptor drive which was starting slow as molasses - until I found that the system was booting from the old IDE drive before he transferred control over the fastest SATA drive that Windows has been installed on.
Finally, other programs have different ways to determine which drive they use.
Add a copy of a disc (using Ghost) can keep registry settings for different drive specifications.IMO, on a XP system, you must have 1 player who put in shape to boot from. The rest should be just the storage drives.

You can install Norton Ghost 15 backup with Norton 360, or it is not recommended?
I installed Norton 360 on my Windows XP computer and I would like to know if I install Norton Ghost 15 if it would conflict with Norton 360 or both would be not compatible?
I think they are compatible. 360's anti-virus; Ghost is the backup. If you really want to know the official answer, I would contact Norton.

Hello
I'm looking for a Microsoft product that is similar to the image of norton ghost... where we can restore the system in case of crash of the backup of the image... Yes I know, in windows server, that we have backup utlity that stores the file in .bkf format however it requires a running operating system to restore the file... I want to, where we can build the system, including the os from system crash image file.
Thank you
WineI don't think that there is nothing that makes Microsoft who will do what you want with Windows XP. I prefer Acronis True Image Ghost. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

Is it possible to reinstall Vista OEM on the HP laptop after using the Norton Ghost software?
Hello
I'm in a bit of trouble. Please help me. In 2007, I bought a HP laptop which of course came with a preinstalled Windows Vista. My friend did a back-up for me using Norton Ghost. Now I do not use Ghost. I would like to re - install Windows Vista on a CD and save by using the product key given in the back of my knees (OEM - his name I guess). Since I use all the same material I hope it will be accepted but I'm not sure. My question is if it will work? Is it legal this Windows already registered in my name for 3.5 years. Please help me and answer me.It is also possible to download Windows Vista from www.microsoft.com?Thanks in advance.Kind regards.Abid.As long as you use the same reinstall OEM or restore DVD (Vista is too big to fit on a CD) initially provided with the laptop, you will have no problem.

Partition problems with Norton Ghost HP_RECOVERY. Can I remove it
Norton Ghost like no my HP_RECOVERY partition, maybe because it is almost full. Can I remove or at least delete all files in there?
Hello
If you created your set of recovery disks - (these will be no only reinstall the OS, but recreate the recovery Partition as well)-you can remove the recovery Partition. If you open the folder Recovery Manager (in all programs), it is usually the option to do so.

This is the 1935 error once again, the installation of Norton Ghost Windows 7 64 bit
Hi, I say 'yet' because it's a frequently asked question, unfortunately with no viable solutions.
I installed Norton Ghost 15 on this machine 3 years ago. No problems. Today, when you pull up the ghost, she suddenly want to run the MSI installer for some reason any and then complains about something. Unfortunately I got a copy of the error. I just uninstalled completely, using the Symantec removal tool.
When you try to install Norton Ghost again, I get this:
I unchecked .net framework 3.5 in Windows features, rebooted, checked again and rebooted. I installed Microsoft C++ 2005 and 2008 Redistributable. This I did because another post suggested to do this.
I also activated the journal feature detailed in the Windows installation program and get a huge file full of data, which tell me what I can use. Yes, something went wrong shot, but in this (these) file (s) there is no special section that stands out in a way that tells me that what in fact was wrong.
Now, is say, not possible to obtain information in plain language? Saying that the Assembly is absent, this file is missing and so on. Because obviously something is not here that should be there, who were 3 years ago, when Norton Ghost installation went flawless.
Or is it something else? "An error occurred during the installation of assembly component", which component? And what is normally the cause of this problem, which will normally not when an assembly component cannot be installed?
My question basically goes like this:How can I know what is the real error? Assembly that is missing, have what is missing? The blind approach isn't trying for me, there must be a scientific way of this approach!
Any help appreciated!
-Ingvar
OK, I found the solution:
Big - just install Ghost until the error message. Do NOT click OK, instead, use task or much better, Manager procedure such as SysInternals Monitor to kill all processes of msi windows installer and everything that has nothing to do with Norton.
Ghost 15 is now installed and you can register and use it.
Problem is, there is a current cancellation, who will run the next time you want to install (all) application.
Delete these registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InProgress
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InProgress\Rollback
Now, everything should be good, at least it looks so here!

Hi, I used Norton ghost 15 clone my old original (750 GB) to a new HDD (1 TB) hard disk, all seemed well, start in windows 7 from screen, but when he arrived at the office, there was a line saying "this is not a genuine copy of windows 7" and nothing shown on the desktop but a light blue background. I have my Win 7 DVD, but there is no way to indicate to the system on my product key. I'm stuck on a blue screen.
After seeing another suggestion to use MGAdiag, I created a new boot disk and it linked the diag. The output is cryptic, so I guess that I have validated only my new installation and there is no obvious way to point to the other disk. But the output is lower.
