Microsoft product for backup and system image recovery... similar to norton ghost.

Hello

I'm looking for a Microsoft product that is similar to the image of norton ghost... where we can restore the system in case of crash of the backup of the image... Yes I know, in windows server, that we have backup utlity that stores the file in .bkf format however it requires a running operating system to restore the file... I want to, where we can build the system, including the os from system crash image file.

Thank you
Wine

I don't think that there is nothing that makes Microsoft who will do what you want with Windows XP. I prefer Acronis True Image Ghost. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

Win 7 HP 64-bit running on desktop.

Quick story: my mother just died. I had been using Windows automatic backup and backup system image, recorded on an external hard drive. When the computer was in the store, I tried to restore some files to the backup, but the majority of my files were simply not there.  I thought I had done something wrong or maybe all the drama with multiple accidents and my attempts to correct (before I realized that it was the motherboard) had somehow messed up.

Current: New motherboard, has got a new hard drive so I was, reinstalled the same Windows 7 HP and all other programs.  Erase all of the external hard drive and backup of Windows files is represented.  He gave me no errors.  So I ran system image backup.  He also didn't give no error, but I noticed that the amount of free space on my external hard drive had not changed.  Properties of folder displays the WindowsImageBackup folder is 0 bytes.

I tried to restore the backup of the files to be sure, it worked this time, but found the same problem as before.  When I browse for the files (or files), it shows the C: drive, and while a single folder (users) appears.  (The last time I think I had two other records.)  Within the users, I have some subfolders but not others.  Even for subfolders that arise, they lack the subfolders and files.  I don't see any specific model to which is registered or not, but I'm missing perhaps 80-90% of my data.

To be clear, that the backup process has been totally standard - nothing personal, no more than one partition, nothing complicated - and I have not received any error.  Windows Backup and Restore thinks that everything is fine.  And yet, I have in fact a backup of files complete or apparently any system image.

Any ideas on what is wrong?  Thank you!!

Well, the new backup, in which I pointed out all the folders/files to save rather than let Windows choose, seems to have worked.  When I try to restore files, it shows me all the various files I have on the C drive and the files users (including Dropbox).  So my current theory is that something is not quite right about the Windows files chooses, since it must really understand all the same.  But at least it seems I found a way around it.  Thank you!

  • Failure of System Image recovery

My dv7 3165dx notebook PC is no longer support Windows 7.  I spent six weeks researching the issue through forums and even contacted HP support by phone.  The first action I took was to back up my files using a SATA cable USB on another computer.  Then I did a system restore.  The restoration process would be to reformat the hard drive, but could never reinstall windows aterwards.  Other research suggests that order the recovery disc for my particular model would settle the matter, so I did.  After trying to boot from the recovery discs, I finally got some error codes that suggested the hard drive has been corrupted and will need to be replaced.  I had 2 it professionals to confirm this suggestion and then explained my story to someone at HP support on the phone and confirm again once I needed a new hard drive.  (corrupted HARD drive is 500 GB)

Now I have a new herd of 650 GB drive and follow all the instructions supplied with the discs.  I turn on the laptop with the first recovery disc in.  BIOS is configured to boot from the CD/DVD.  System Image Recovery begins, asking if I want to reformat the drive and start the recovery.  The progress bar indicates the restoration of files on hard disk and makes 30% after about 40 minutes, and then a box will appear:

"Failure of the copy of the file.  Of D:\PRELOAD\BASE19. WIM C:\RM\Image\BASE19. WIM.  Press OK to retry.

pressing ENTER or ESC takes about 20 to 30 minutes more to get the same box again never exceed 30%.

I have a new hard drive and HP recovery disc and still not usable laptop.  I have read also several similar topics on similar problems but you have not found a solution that works yet.  I appreciate a lot of help.

    Hello

    You are welcome.

I've always liked to link to the site to developers for free software, but I agree that the download options are not immediately obvious.  However, as you use a Mac, there is no need for additional software - you can burn the Image file (ISO) of Windows disk as described in he following link.

Before troubleshooting, provide us with information.

    1. what applications do you use for backup?

    2. what security software is installed?

    3. What is the free space on the hard drive external?

    4. were you able to save the backup on the external drive earlier?

  • T610 with Windows Embedded 7 - the system does not license for the operating system image

    Hello community,

I bought a refurbished computer ThinClient T610 that is running a Windows 7 Embedded English. The label on the package says, that the computer ThinClient is allowed with W7E. When I now run Easy Tools installed on the computer ThinClient hp to create a USB Image with the German language, everything works fine: the image is downloaded from the web and put on the stick.

But after you start the stick, the installation program tells me: "the system does not license for the operating system image. What I am doing wrong? The BIOS is already the latest.

Or y at - it another way to transform the operating system in German? There should be an option to download additional languages, but this particual window has no other options. And I have not found any manual way to download other languages.

    Michael

Sometimes it can be so easy... ;-)

    So here's my solution:

    1. go on the Web for hp Support site

    2. go in the software and driver download

    3. set the language of driver on the language of your choice (in fact: it was the main problem)

    4. download an operating system image

    5. run the configuration tool and copy the image of an operating system on a flash drive

    6. restart the workstation and install the os

    7. take advantage of your computer ThinClient in the language of your choice

I don't know, why the hp Easy Tools downloaded the image of evil, but with this solution, that I find myself at the same point, as if they did.

    Hello

Can I use TC for backup and as external hard drive?

If yes then when it is full, TC erase my personal data I have stored in TC as a hard drive or erase the oldest backups?

    1. Yes, but you shouldn't. Your working data and backups must be on separate drives in case one of them goes down.

    2. Time Machine will not erase the data it did not originally there.

  • Keyboard shortcut for "next" and "previous image", or the previous and following layers

    Hello

I host and I like drawing with Photoshop paint tools, but to animate I need to "flip" - which is just quickly move from one drawing to the next, as you would with sheets of paper size: hunting and clicking the arrows is not feasible.

Shortcut keys, or assignable buttons for previous and next images in the animation - or, more simple, for the previous and following layers function keys - would solve this problem completely.  This improvement could make Photoshop a viable animation program, in competition with paper plastic and Flipbook Animation.

Is there at least a way I can download an add-on that would do this?

  • Backup failed (System Image) of network storage (NAS) - Error Codes 0 x 81000032 and 0x8078011D

I recently got a new DELL workstation, and I'm trying to set up the automatic backup feature.  I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, and our office uses a Synology NAS device as a file server.  The NAS device has 1.34 TB of total space, 1.3 TB of free space and is in NTFS format.  I have traced (persistent) several places on the NAS as readers on workstation.

I tried to backup my workstation to the NAS (network location), but it didn't give me the error code 0 x 81000032.

When I changed the backup settings so that the backup did not include an image of the system, the backup was properly executed.

I tried to create a system image (link on the upper left of the control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Backup and restore screen).  The image has failed and gave me the error 0x8078011D code, informing me that the recording location was either: (1) not a reader fixed, (2) no NTFS, or (3) read-only.  I know that the save location is NTFS and is read/write; and as I mentioned earlier, it is a network location (a NAS device).

I thought that maybe because I have traced other network locations NAS as readers on 'My Computer', that when it came time for the image of my system, the backup was trying to picture to all my readers, including the mapped locations of NAS.  If she did this, I thought that it may fail because there is not enough space on the NAS in order to imagine NAS locations mapped as well as my workstation.

So, I unplugged my mapped drives (NAS locations) and tried to make a manual backup, including the image.  That did not work.  I also tried to create an image as shown above.  That did not work also.  Also, I went into services.msc and fact ensure that the shadow copy of Volume has been set to 'Automatic', started the service and restarted my computer.  Backups don't always work.

My question is: How can I run a backup that includes a system image and store this backup and image on the NAS Server?  Remember, I want to be able to set the schedule and forget it with the backup occurs automatically when I do not use my work station.  Keep in mind that I can run a backup if the settings do not include the create a system image.

    -Update-

Here's an idea: on my Dell workstation, I have a disk drive (d :)) (I think to be able to read emails without having to start the computer?) who is FAT 32...) This could be what is causing the problem... because the backup cannot create the image of a FAT 32 on a NTFS drive?  (I know that he cannot back up on a FAT 32 drive).  If so, can I change it by going to cmd (as an administrator) and type CONVERT D:/FS: NTFS?  Or is there a way I can exclude the drive D: (FAT 32) of the image?

I would be grateful for any help.

  • backup and system restore after upgrade to 8.1

I have an Acer Aspire Swich 10 E computer that came with Windows 8.1. After many hours of downloading, I upgraded to 10 Windows for free. Now, I want to make a backup of the system so that I can restore Windows to its present first State that is necessary or desirable.

When I launch Acer Recovery Management to create a backup, the only options are "Factory Default," which is no doubt 8.1 Windows 'drivers and Applications.

I tried to use Acronis True Image, but he does not see my C: drive, which is probably for the 64 GB SSD. He sees the 500 GB HDD, the Acronis USB key and the reader, that I intend to use for the backup. I understand that the default value of the plant is stored on a hidden partition, likely on the SSD, so I wasn't expecting to see that.

How to restore Windows 10 without first reinstalling 8.1, and then reupgrading?

I also want my backup on my media, not on some clouds or pie in the sky!

Oh, and of course, at a later date, I want to make a backup with my software installed and all the removed bloatware.

so, first, I would create a bootable windows 10 media:
