Not authentic Windows after changing the hard drive

Hi, I got a genuine version of windows 7 on my PC, but the hard drive was too small. I bought a new hard drive and copied the entire former disk including the operating system on it and only use the new disk. I have now a message saying that my copy of windows is not genuine and I need to buy a new copy. Is it possible to validate my copy without having to buy windows again? I bought the PC with windows pre-installed, this isn't a product key. If I reinstall my old drive do I find the key there and type it on the new drive? is this so where is it located? My operating system is Windows 7 Professional.

Thank you

Barry.

Windows 7 came preinstalled on the old drive? If that were the case, use the product key on the COA sticker to reactivate Windows 7 the new disk:

Click Start, right click on computer

Click on properties

Scroll down to the Windows Activation

Click on the link 'change product key '.

Enter the product key located on the COA sticker attached to the bottom of your laptop or in the battery compartment. Click next to activate via the Internet.

  • C55 - A satellite - keep Windows after changing the HARD drive?

    Hello

I want to buy Toshiba Satellite C55 - A, which is pre-installed Windows 8.1 and the recovery on the HARD drive Partition.
I also want to buy 256 GB SSD and put it in Toshiba (and use the external as hard drive from Toshiba HARD drive).

Can I install Windows 8.1 that I bought (preinstalled) on the SSD?
    If so, how?

Of course, you can swap the HARD drive with an SSD.
The key is the recovery media (USB key or drive).
You must create a recovery disk to replace the HARD drive.

Laptop Toshiba computers are preinstalled with software called Toshiba Recovery Media creator.
This allows you to create a recovery media that you can use to reinstall the system on the new SSD installed!

as I left the States, how can I get them?

where can I download the recovery image and burn it to a DVD?

    Hello

Another option that you might consider is to create your own Windows 7 installation disc.

Before you try the following, make sure that you can always read the character product activation key 25 on your label Windows COA (5 blocks of 5 alphanumeric games).

An example of a COA label can be seen here.

You can create a Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the Disk Image correct ( this must be the same version that originally came with your laptop - it is listed as Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit ) from the link below and use an app like ImgBurn ( Note: you can deselect additional software during installation of ImgBurn offerings) to burn the ISO correctly on a blank DVD - a guide on the use of ImgBurn to write that an ISO on a disc is here.  The source of the Windows Image is Digital River.

    Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1.

Use the disk to perform the installation, enter the activation key of Windows on the label of the COA at the request and once the installation is complete, use ' 'phone Method' described in detail in the link below to activate the operating system -this made method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who want to just have a new installation of Windows 7 without additional software load normally comes with OEM installations.

  • Satellite Pro L500-1W4 - cannot install Win 7 Pro after changing the HARD drive

    Hi all

    I need assistance with Windows.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro with Windows 7 preinstalled pro and the recovery DVD to downgrade to Windows XP Pro.
I had to change the hard drive, so I try to reinstall Windows 7 from the recovery CD, but it does not work. He said that it is not possible to install this on this machine.

So I tried with Windows XP CD recovery and no problem
I'd rather have windows Windows 7 but I do not know how to retrieve
Last information, the Windows XP CD recovery came with the laptop that Windows 7 was made by the store who sold me the computer.

    Thank you for your help
    Julie

As far as I know there is not a kind of limitation and if there is no problem with the original recovery for Win7 disc, you should be able to install it on any HARD disk that you use with your machine.
I upgraded HDD to the SSD on my installation of picture machine and the restore worked without any problems.

To be honest, it is not easy to say what the problem is here, but the Win7 installation disc is somehow suspect for me. I don't know what model of laptop you have exactly, but somehow, I feel you didn t get original drive Win7. Best evidence is the Windows XP Home edition recovery disk. The prinziple with Win7 is the same and it should works.

When you use this disk you should have the menu as shown on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R02.htm

This document explains how this works with the original installation disc of recovery.

  • Windows 7 says this isn't authentic after changing the HARD drive and can not activate

After a Windows Update I received a notice that my version of windows was not authentic, which is false because I had windows on my laptop because I got it 4 years ago. Recently, I had to have the changed HARD drive as it corrupts. Installed new HARD drive and partition it a space in which the old files to hard drives. Seemed to turn very well when HARD drives were exchanged and windows installed on the new drive until windows update. My Microsoft certificate key is passed out to illegible but I don't have the product key for the OEM version. Any help would be great, thanks.

If Windows was preinstalled on your computer, you can enable using the code from the sticker on the computer.  If you can not read the sticker more, you will need to contact the computer company he built.

If you purchased Windows from the store, you can enable using the code of the case/box/CD.  If you can't read it, you must contact the retailer who sells to you.

    Hi Rob,

You must install first Windows XP and upgrade to Windows Vista.

If you have a genuine copy of Windows XP, after you install Windows XP you can contact support for Microsoft's Activation to activate the copy of Windows XP.

  • How can I reinstall windows after replacing the hard drive? Laptop did not come with a disc.

My internal hard drive went bad in my laptop, easy to replace and relatively inexpensive. However, the laptop came not with the windows disk. So, how can I reinstall windows once I replaced the hard drive?

Basically, you have two choices. You can communicate with the person who made the computer and see if they can provide either a set of Windows Vista restore disks (I would assume) or an installation for Windows Vista (probably OEM) DVD. If the second choice, determine if you will need to download device drivers or software packages from their web site. OR, you can purchase the operating system of your choice, retail. The wisdom is that, if this is your choice, you see if you will need the device drivers and get those of the web site of the manufacturer.

Once you have the disks, install in the usual way.

I got a laptop with Windows vista installed oem ADVENT but the motherboard has developed a fault that cannot be repaired or replaced because of the age of the laptop since I mount the hard drive in a computer laptop fujitsu and everything was working fine now, I'm windows isn't real logo, of course I have the key to product so why used it re activate with the new laptop is Another way microsoft win money from customers, which makes them by a new product key for the OS software I already own?

Provided with your advent OEM license is ONLY valid on the original computer, not on any other.

You will need to buy a new Windows license, or back to the Fujitsu to his original version of Windows.

  • Loud fan after changing the hard drive

The hard drive on my IMac started 27 '' 2010 decisions feared chatter noise and slowing all work to a snails pace. By coincidence, a duff of my office iMac has exactly the same model number and size of disk (Hitachi 2 GB) so I switched them.  The machine is now to its former glory, but with a problem, the fan is constantly on and goes to full breath.  I did the reset by unplugging the power cable and press the power button, but it has not solved the problem.  I would be grateful if anyone has any ideas to solve this nuisance.

Some models of iMac originally had a hard drive with a built-in temperature sensor. If you replace the drive with a model that does not have the built-in sensor fans work continuously.

Your iMac is one of these models. It looks like an application called SSD Fan control (http://exirion.net/ssdfanctrl/) could be a solution.
