Not to see the hosts creating vNetwork Distributed Switch

I'm new on vSphere and set up my lab with 2 servers IBM shared storage. I just created a cluster and attempted to create a dvswitch. When I get to the dialog box to add hosts and their physical cards, no servers are displayed. If I choose the option to add later, I still don't see them add them.

This is just a simple cluster of two servers. This part works without any other problem that I have a caveat of not having redundant links to the service console.

I feel I'm missing just something simple, but have not been able to understand. Any help or ideas are appreciated.

You use the Eval license or a license key valid? If you are using a brand of license key valid of course, it is an Enterprise Plus license.

In the past if you had no business license would not show that all guests were available to add to the DVS.

You can unlink the vmnic of the vDS?

    for example

    esxcfg-vswitch -Q vmnic0 -V

You should be able to identify the dvPort using esxcfg-vswitch - l, if your dvSwitch has spaces in the name, use quotes around the name of the dvSwitch.

There is also a pattern of recovery procedure in the documentation of vDS, you can go there if you deleted accidentally networking of your Service Console.

  • Script adding a host to a distributed switch does not

It's weird and I'm sure it's something simple.  I've created a script that configures the NTP and the syslog on a host computer.  I added on the configuration of the standard vswitch0 and part works fine.  I set the MTU, add a vMotion and port FT and that part works fine. I wanted to add on a section of code to add the host of our distributed switch.  Environment vSphere 5.5 U2, switch is a distributed switch 5.5.  For some reason, the code is not error at all but just does nothing.  However, if I paste the code into a Powershell window it works fine.  Same code, same host, same switch.  Ideas as to why it works manually by pasting the code into a window, but does not work, I use the script itself.  Here's the code that does not work in the script:

#Adds vmnic5 and vmnic6 for the distributed switch

    Write-Host

    Write-Host «Addition of $VMHost to the switch distributed $vds...» "- ForegroundColor"green ".

Disconnect-VIServer *-confirm: $false #earlier part of the script is directly connected to the host

    SE connect-VIServer $vcenter | Out-Null #$vcenter variable created earlier in the script

    Get-VDSwitch $vds | Add-VDSwitchVMHost-Server $vcenter - VMhost $VMhost #$vds and $VMhost variables collected earlier in the script

    $vmnic5 = get-VMHost $VMhost | Get-VMHostNetworkAdapter-physics - name vmnic5

    $vmnic6 = get-VMHost $VMhost | Get-VMHostNetworkAdapter-physics - name vmnic6

    Get-VDSwitch $vds | Add-VDSwitchPhysicalNetworkAdapter - VMHostPhysicalNic $vmnic5 - confirm: $false

    Get-VDSwitch $vds | Add-VDSwitchPhysicalNetworkAdapter - VMHostPhysicalNic $vmnic6 - confirm: $false

Seems pretty simple, but for some reason it just doesn't work.  Any ideas?

When you load the script into an editor (PowerShell ISE for example) and can run from there, run the cmdlets vDS?

  • Can I create with vSphere Enterprise Edition distributed vNetwork distributed switch?

From the following URL, I wonder whether we can create vNetwork distributed switch with our existing Enterprise Edition.

    http://www.VMware.com/products/vSphere/buy/editions_comparison.html

If the answer is YES, could any elaborate colleague on "Enabler for 3rd party switch support?  Currently, we use DELL switches.

    Thank you

as said Enterprise Plus license is necessary for a vNetwork Distributed Switch.  You can create one under Enterprise license, but don't be fooled, you can not use.

Maybe VMware one day will remove the ability to create even one based on the license model.

    Hello

I'm trying to block ads in my browser but when I go to c; Windows/system32/drivers/etc I do not see the Host file I virtue see a file while properties indicates that it is 5 archives. I need to add some info on the hosts file how to make this file show. Although I don't see it when I try to paste a modified hosts file it won't allow replacement of Martin

Click Start--> go in run and paste the following entry: %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc

You now see the hosts file?
If this is not the case, try this:
    1. click on start go to run-->
    2. tap------(literally just a------and nothing else)
    3. press on enter
    4. click on Tools--> folder--> view options
    5. make sure that a small black dot appears next to 'display files and folders '.
    6. scroll down for 'show hidden files and folders' and remove the checkbox from "Hide protected files (recommended) operating system.
    7. click on 'yes '.
    8. click on 'Ok '.
    9. click on start--> go in run and paste the following entry: %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc
If you * see the hosts file now, right-click on it and make sure that there is no check mark 'read only' and 'hidden' boxes... If they are verified, then remove the check.
Note: you should not have to perform steps 1 through 8 to view the hosts file; the hosts file is visible even with these settings, the default value (for example, when files are hidden you should always see the hosts file), but you may have a spyware infection that has tried the hide and prevent changes in the host file (to prevent you from making corrections in the file which made spyware)
assuming that you have made any customizations to this file, it should appear as the default value listed in this Microsoft article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972034
If it looks not to the default file listed at this URL, then you can recreate the file by using the templates included in this document KB

  • VNetwork Distributed Switch virtual cards

Trying to get my head around e-cards in the distributed switch.

In standard switch, I understand the hierarchy like this:

    vSwitch (upper level)

groups (including the kernel) port (2nd level)

physical cards (identical to "vmnic..") (join vSwitch)

I do not understand the hierarchy for the distributed switches.  The use of the term virtual card throws me a loop for.  I consult the virtual map of term as something that you "attach" to something (vswitch etc...), not something you add.  For example, when I go in manage e-cards and select migrate existing adapters, I give you the choice of console and vmotion.  I find the console and vmotion as groups of ports and not e-cards.  Any help to understand this would be appreciated.

    Thank you

From page 36 of the Guide de Configuration ESX (http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40_u1/vsp_40_u1_esx_server_config.pdf):

Virtual network cards manage services network host on a vNetwork Distributed Switch.

You can configure the console service and VMkernel virtual cards for an ESX host by a partner

vNetwork Distributed Switch or by creating new virtual maps or the migration of existing virtual cards.

When you migrate a virtual network adapter, you should migrate the service or VMkernel console since a standard vSwitch to a group of ports in the vNetwork Distributed Switch.

  • vNetwork Distributed Switch

I am preparing to install vSphere 5.5 and started the design of virtual network. I was counting on the creation of switches distributed when I read that only vSphere Enterprise PLUS supports the vNetwork Distributed Switch. Is this right? I am only able to create Standard switches on each host? Is there a way to export the configuration of a Standard switch that you can with a distributed switch?

I was counting on the creation of switches distributed when I read that only vSphere Enterprise PLUS supports the vNetwork Distributed Switch. Is this right? --> Yes

I am only able to create Standard switches on each host?--> if the license is less than Enterprise, then Yes

Is there a way to export the configuration of a Standard switch that you can with a distributed switch? N ° but there are a lot of scripts PowerCLI available that can help you in mass deploy a Standard switch configuration.

  • vNetwork Distributed Switch - School me please!

Can someone give me a description as to what is happening with a configuration switch vNetwork?  My areas of interest are:

What happens when I add an ESXi host management network interface active to a distributed switch?

How are the hosts of ESXi with several NIC supposed to be configured on the physical network?

Should I have several ESXi host WHAT NIC connected to VLAN separate physics?

When and how to use groups of dvPort?

What is the best practice to deploy a vNetwork Distributed Switch in a production environment existing?

What IP addresses should the virtual machine which will connect to the switch vNetwork have?  Real routable IP or a private beach that lives on the only host of ESXi?

I have ESXi setup guide and understand 'how' do these things but don't understand what happens when treating several VLAN virtual physics and ESXi hosts being not connected to all local networks.  I tried to set this up a while ago and had a lot of questions while losing connectivity to multiple hosts ESXi and all virtual machines running on the hosts on the network.  I don't want to repeat this mistake!

You don't have to use the junction of your physical switch ports, it is usually best if you do. When you use the junction ports and assign several VLANS to that port, that means that the virtual switch (standard or distributed) can then talk to the physical switch using assigned VLANs. Which means that a single physical NETWORK card within an ESX host can talk to several VLANs, if you do not use trunking then you can only assign a VLAN by ESX NIC that is not very effective.

Most of the vSwitches converses with several VLANs, but will have only one or two uplinks, in this scenario, it is almost always necessary to use port trunking.

    Does that answer your question?

To use vNetwork Distributed Switch, you need the license of vSphere Enterprise Plus.  Another version of vSphere does not include this feature.  You also need a vCenter Server license.

  • vNetwork Distributed Switch use case?

Hi, I understand what a vNetwork Distributed Switch is, but I'm not sure if I know that all use cases.    Is used only so that you don't have to create the same exchanges on each server in the cluster for Vmotion?  Or are there other reasons?   Why switch dist. vN would be a reason to between ORL more?
